I think they’ve started departments that are making more creative but simple solutions lately, they make such insanely amazing products like the javelin, that was the apex of complicated amazing products, but not r Wally cost efficient for every application it gets used for, I love the part in the movie whiskey tango foxtrot, as a member of the press corp. Tina fey just got in country, the marine has Tina fey over hydrating when first in country, so they detour from the msr so she can squat and pop real quick , after getting remounted they immediately receive incoming from the stereotypical white Toyota pick up from a hill, then return fire with small arms, but then marine uses a jav when the hmv convo takes a few rds from rpk, one marine immediately takes it out and neutralized the threat, billie bob playing a full bird comes running out, “ u just used a 120k weapon, does anyone know the blue book value of a pos Toyota pick up truck!? “ 😂🤣 I love that part, that weapon is actually an amazing weapon, insane target acquisition, multiple forms of trajectory, can take out 100 million dollar weapons, aircraft etc, but now it occasionally is be misused by its operators, but it seems like lockheed, the guys who brought us my favorite of ww2 the fork tailed devil p38, it’s actually crazy how efficient and nonfat I’ve that was btw, but they appear to creating lines of munitions that are tailored for a combat where cost effective is important as ever, going up against 10 dollar mortars and rpgs, stuff like this is exactly what we need! So hope to see more of it

According to Wikipedia, in 2018 they were planning to have a flying prototype by 2025. Mach 6 at 80,000 feet, ISR and strike capable (although we would need to design new cameras and weapons to operate at those speeds and altitudes)
But it's competing against UAV, such as the RQ-180 which according to wikipedia fills a similar role and was in development in 2008, in production 2013, and someone got the first picture of it in 2020.

It will fly like +4 hours, you will have a range something like 50+km but as i said forget about that termal camera laser designator etc. that's the reason why those drones cost so much, they literraly make a plane to get those cameras in the air.
