I pick Android as the lesser evil. I do envy iPhone users some of the privacy features, but Apple keeps making things needlessly hard to do when they really shouldn't be. Some of their other decisions also annoy me, like the lightning port or their active efforts to make their devices unrepairable.
I am using /e/OS from the e-foundation. This is a de-googled android version based on LineageOS. I have selected this as it comes with its own eco-system like an app store in which you cab download apps anonymously. In the end it is all about trust in which one thing is clear for me... I don't 'trust' google.. Really happy with the performance of eos as battery lifetime increases from a single day to multiple days!! I can only conclude that there are way less processes running in the background doing something with my data.. One significant drawback is that apps like netflix or disney+ do not stream content anymore as I have rooted the device..
Hi Josh, I look forward to watching this in more detail. Would you please be kind enough to add Latin American Spanish subtitles? Thanks so much for your consideration.
I went with apple because I felt that apple always updates there software for a phone for about four years or so with android I feel like it is GOOD LUCK WITH THE UPDATES
I run windows 11 pro on my mobile device. I've been using windows based mobile devices exclusively for 20 years. I've checked out ios and android and they don't work for me. Having a full pc in my pocket and a duplicate spare has allowed me to live light without sacrifice. My current device is the surface duo.
I do so many things on my phone, over using my lap top or pad, including paying some of my bills and banking. I have been an apple user and an android user, and I will never, EVER go back to android. Sorry for me it’s 🍎 wall of steel iOS system.🤷🏻♀️ Security is BIG for me. In this day and age, with social media and how advanced we are on the Internet you are absolutely nuts if security is not the top of your concern, but for some people it’s actually not. I guess it depends on what you’re doing on your phone. If you’re looking for customization, gaming, etc. then sure, there’s more of that on android, so I guess security is not that big of a deal for you; most likely you’re using third-party apps anyway. I have an apple 15+ and I absolutely love it❤ I have it customized with pictures, daily widgets, and apps that I use, and it gets the job done for me, as far as phone use, and what I need it for. In my opinion, Samsung can be the biggest and the best but if someone hacks into your phone and steals your identity or whatever they’re looking for than all that customization, and everything else, is pointless. Listen, no one can guarantee 100% security, not even Apple, but if it’s between the two, I’ll take my chances with Apple any day.
So.. Is he saying that using google on an iphone and android is equally secure. Or is googlemail for example harder to hack on an Iphone?? Hope someone has the answer.
I'm team Apple all the way as far as privacy and security goes for several reasons. I recall that several years ago the government tried to coerce Apple into building a backdoor "master key" that can access any device at any time. Apple fought back saying that the would compromise a key feature of their products. Also, most secure data is not on Apple servers but kept on the phone. Google hands over customer data, it seems, to anyone at any time for any reason. Also, I tried an interesting experiment where a friend has a Galaxy phone and it we put in to the table next to an iPhone both with the lock screen on. Then we started talking about an obscure subject like "Gee I'd really like to go on an Alaska cruise" and we said it 4-5 times. Guess what he started seeing in his feed too after? Adverts to Alaska cruises. So while the Android world has much more innovative hardware (yes I've been tempted), I wouldn't touch any of them given the risks.
Im debating between iPhone 14 pro max and Galaxy s23 ultra, I am so torn and I can't decide because I love the customization on my current Galaxy but I want the security of an iPhone. I currently have a galaxy s20+
Hi Josh, I use iOS! I like the privacy out of the box. Also, I enjoy the Apple Ecosystem! Personally, in conjunction with this, I use decentralized VPN Orchid!
GrapheneOS is very usable, I've even convinced 2 of my moms friends to start using it. My mom is still an iPhone user sadly. There are some pain points on GrapheneOS which can eaisly be fixed, it just requires the initial setup. Like the default messenger, keyboard, etc. Those apps all suck, install Microsoft SwiftType then disable network access so it cant phone home. Stuff like this. When I setup GrapheneOS for normies I try to make it as convenient as possible knowing they are still getting a MASSIVE privacy & security boost over stock Android, which is still better than iOS. For me security & privacy is king.
A degoogled android is pretty good but out of the box i think ios is better for privacy google is tracking everything that's coming from an android user
I just switched on principle. I have always been an Android guy I had one of the very first Google phones. Always had Androids ever since up until IPhone 13. I just don’t care for Googles attitude any more. I believe they are into some shady stuff partnering with governments among other things. Not saying Apple is perfect but I think Google needs to be knocked down several pegs.
I would say android as you can look at it's code and strip out all of it's telemetry and add more security (GrapheneOS?) like what happened with VScode and VScodium
answer for 99.9% of the population: it doesn't matter.. use common sense. if you put sensitive data on a phone or any device, secure it according to its sensitivity, whether it be password protection, encryption, etc. and if it's that sensitive that you even worry about it after that, then don't put it on any device or at least not one connected to any network whatsoever. what is YOUR threat model? if you're spending your time worrying and your situation is such that nobody really cares about you or your personal info (aside from marketers and fraudsters), then you're spending precious moments of your time trying to safeguard things for no good reason and wasting your life away doing it, while also enduring the inconveniences that come from doing it.
@@Jane_Moss I now use a Pixel 6, since Best Buy recently had the TMobile model as an upgrade for $200 without any contract. Had it unlocked and installed GrapheneOS on it. It doesn't install unnecessary apps I don't use, lets me have a bit more control privacy and security settings, and feels less invasive. I have separate user profiles for everyday tasks (web browsing, youtube using a 3rd party app that bypasses the ads, etc.) and for banking. But that's a personal choice to go through those hoops. It works well for me so far. It's not better than an iPhone 13/14 Pro Max or Samsung S22 Ultra, but it does what I need out of a phone while paying as little as possible. But for most people, I would just go with an iPhone honestly. I just wanted a little more control over certain things and be not as locked into Apple's ecosystem. But iPhone does pretty good when it comes to security and privacy while not to the point of being inconvenient.
More and more our lives are being sucked into these eco systems. Do you want google knowing when you use the restroom, or hearing you make love to your wife? The argument that if you’re not doing anything wrong , you shouldn’t care is silly.
In my opinion, iOS takes the cake in both categories. This is especially true since after this video was made, only about a month ago actually, Apple in fact decided to go back on the CSAM detection that you talk about in this video; a huge win for privacy crew. For me personally, I became a first time iPhone owner (actually the first Apple product I've ever purchased) as of the 15 Pro, after being Android ONLY since the original Motorola Droid!
Last I heard they did implement the scanning though. I don't want any company scanning my personal files no matter what reason they give. Unfortunately there isn't a good option for a modern mobile device that doesn't invade the hell out of your privacy
I consider iPhone to be far less secure for two reasons. 1 - Apple has proven they can change their mind at a notice. Gone is the Apple who refused to unlock a phone for the FBI. Now Apple willingly shut out apps during the Hong Kong protests at China's request. And Apple continues to allow China access to and control over apps. These things happened AFTER people already owned iphones over there. So they bought something they thought was secure, and then Apple just undoes it. Distgusting. 2 - Apple considered scanning local devices for illegal pictures. I don't give a shit what the crime was they were thinking of scanning for, the terrifying thing is that they considered it at all. Once again, just like above, people who had bought a device would have suddenly had a different device than the one they bought just because Apple changed their minds about something. Think of the fucking precedent that would have set. First they scan for CSAM, next thing you know it thanks to AI and image recognition technology they also scan your photos for firearms, pirated movies, music, drugs, you fucking name it. Hell, now that your device is basically a snitch spy tool why not fucking use Apple maps to report you to the police if you run a red light or jay walk? So ya, if you think Apple is secure you aren't Chinese lmao. Apple is only as secure as mass public sentiment. If people in the future become more ok with Apple devices reporting you for crimes, then suddenly they are a police state tool. The only reason Apple changed their minds about the scanning was because of the pushback. So ya, no idea how you could be delusional enough to think your device is secure.
I don't think Apple "perfects" over time. They just make micro updates to optimize profits. Always have but then gas light everyone to think slow progress is the best. Even when the change is only logical to implement quickly.
Have a question on this app Shared Security Show Is this app can be use for your Android phone let me know And where I can buy it and how much is it and can u tell me how many procentage is secure for this phone
For me it's an easy decision because with Google *YOU* are the product, they have to collect your data, sell/share it and make money that way. Apple makes its money by selling hardware, services and taking a generous cut from app sales, not by selling its users’ data or running ads. Thing is though, it's YOUR choice, no-one is forcing you to use either.
This is a fallacy. Apple just introduced more ads to Apple products and apps. They're slowly rolling out more and more. Most people just arent actually paying attention or reading the user agreements.
Well, since Google makes it's money from collecting and using user data, I think Apple wins the privacy war currently, but I'm sure Apple will wade deeper into that pool of cash as time goes on.
Since the Apple business model is basically based on selling its hardware, they will need to diversify and offer more pay as you go services. As that happens, “Apple privacy” will likely diminish to some extent.
I go with Android only because it's cheaper. I don't use my phone like the rest of the world.....I guess. I make phone calls and texts. That's it. I don't even carry it with me more times than I do. I don't live on or by my phone. I just don't trust them with anything. I know that's just me. But I also preach against using them for sensative data. I've known plenty of people who have gotten really screwed by trusting an untrustworthy phone.
I am actually thinking of getting a compact phone for my daily routine can anyone suggest me any best compact phones which won't compromise on quality and performance of the device
Which mobile OS do you use? And are you looking to change for some reason? Leave a comment below with your answer...I'm curious to know!

@@raywall1133 I made the jump in 2021 and haven’t looked back. iOS has come a long way in the last 2 versions. Not regrets.
Siri is power by Google . You have In iPhone advertising ID yes you do they listen to you a ll the time. Etc apple lie
@@manowar2816 Siri isn't powered by Google. Also with Apple you are asked if you want targeted ads. You get the chance to turn them off. Which I have done, along with app tracking.
So basically it doesn't matter. Got it. Been using Android since the first Note was released. Now have S22 Ultra. Was considering switching to iOS next time for privacy reasons. Guess I won't be. Thank you.
I was debating switching to iphone for security and very shamefully I must admit imessage as well
iOS private relay works, I can’t access some site from my country with windows or androids but I can access anything anywhere with iOS
I recently went from Apple phone I’ve had for 4 years to an android. I wish I could stay with Apple for the security. If you have anymore safety info and tips and tricks for android it would be helpful. Thank you.
Why didn’t you just stay with iPhone?
I wiped my iPhone X and sold it. I just downloaded an app u haven’t used it awhile but it said “share with your I phone x?” Is this just the app being dumb? I don’t want to share any information with someone that owns my old phone.
I trust Apple more than Google (an advertising company) with my security/privacy. Not completely, but still a lot more.
5:07 ive always been an android user and every phone i remember having has asked for permissions before using the camera etc, idk what hes talking about
I am an Android user and this happen after apple done it first . I think it was after android 9
Actually with Samsung you have the option to turn off Google listening to your phone conversation for third party advertising . SO EVEN WHEN YOU'RE NOT USING YOUR PHONE GOOGLE LISTEN TO YOUR CONVERSATION WITH APLE YOU DONT HAVE THAT Option of turning it off
That is a samsung thing? Isn't that in Android? I was going to switch from Samsung to Pixel to at least share data only with one, not 2 corporations.
Android uses RCS Chat for end to end encryption. It's default on pretty much all Android devices. You should have included that in there instead of put "???."
Encryption that's still anybody can see if you fell for that good luck
honestly, your video is really damn good. I'm from the Android side and i hate really the apple side. But in fact, how you say, it is important how to feed your device with your (personal) informations and it no cares about how secure one system is, because social engineering can beat them.. thx for your review/video, i like it💪
Minute 5:00 user tracking I think Android they have built in ON THE MENU disabled camera disabled Microphone and last stop sensors. So I think Android is better and lastly it has more settings to give and permissions for app specifically ANTIVIRUS APPS
I do not agree! I think Android is better at tracking than IOS. If it's on Android by the manufacturer, Android loses. But if you use a Custom Rom + Root + Adblock + MicroG. Definitely Android Wins with Custom ROMs.
De-Google Phone
Google makes its own hardware and software. So if you are looking for a similar Apple experience get yourself a Google Pixel phone. Plus Google gives you a free Google VPN with your Pixel phone and the cherry on top you get the best camera 📸
I have found the perfect solution. Turn off these devices until you really need to use them. No, Airplane mode just doesn't cut it. Switch it off. There, saved you a few quid you would've spent on a new, de-googled phone.👍
Sorry to break it to you, but even phones turned off send out signals.
@@AllThingsSecured OMG!!! Not a conspiracy theory then! We've truly become slaves to these devices. Anyways, thanks for the head-up, mate. Love ur content. 👍
None. Buy pixel and pit custom rom
Thanks for the perspective I never thought in this way
very illustrative and useful ..thanks a lot
I do use signal too
Glad you like it.
I pick Android as the lesser evil. I do envy iPhone users some of the privacy features, but Apple keeps making things needlessly hard to do when they really shouldn't be. Some of their other decisions also annoy me, like the lightning port or their active efforts to make their devices unrepairable.
I've used Graphene OS (degoogled Android) for over a year now. It's right up to date with Android 13. Everything works fine.
@Iron Reagan either one is a spy device.
@Iron Reagan Probably not. But if you get android at least you can put a custom ROM on it and control it.
This was quite a beneficial video. Thank u
Glad it was helpful!
Yeah
/e/ is shite
Very nice and practical video session on privacy i ever watched
This guy puts ads in his videos and still manages to put ads while talking 🤦♂️
Yes they can install spyware apps, etc. ADB makes the scanning much easier, and allows all files access on iphone.
Hi Josh, I look forward to watching this in more detail.
Would you please be kind enough to add Latin American Spanish subtitles?
Thanks so much for your consideration.

Wow fantastic news telecast......
I went with apple because I felt that apple always updates there software for a phone for about four years or so with android I feel like it is GOOD LUCK WITH THE UPDATES
Thank you for video ❤️
I run windows 11 pro on my mobile device. I've been using windows based mobile devices exclusively for 20 years. I've checked out ios and android and they don't work for me. Having a full pc in my pocket and a duplicate spare has allowed me to live light without sacrifice. My current device is the surface duo.
The messaging situation is one of the things that the US DOJ is suing Apple over.
Good overview, I have both...I like both, I think Iwill keep itlike that...
I do so many things on my phone, over using my lap
top or pad, including paying some of my bills and banking.
❤️ blackberry was the bomb
Haha 😂
I go with the wolf Google pixel.not for photos for privacy Yes privacy.
Android (Samsung) for their sandbox environment Samsung Knox
I left my iPod in the dust because of the lack of, drag and drop.
I picked up a zoom and stayed android ever since.
I have 6 old android phones that all run the newest Google play services and there all safe to use
Not the samsungs fault that is his own

Hi Josh, I use iOS! I like the privacy out of the box. Also, I enjoy the Apple Ecosystem! Personally, in conjunction with this, I use decentralized VPN Orchid!
Iphone definitely wins
😂 sure bro 🤣
Android is more secure, look at how much zero days cost on Androids vs iOS
I'd say Samsung is the expection with the Knox program
@AllThingsSecured What's your opinion about Beeper?
Interesting take. So you’re saying that the fact that you can “de-Google” an Android phone is a bonus for you?
@@AllThingsSecured Actually yes, Google is known to be an ad company. So why not get the best of both worlds. Google's best software and privately.
Amen
At the end you did not tell us which is which
Most big businesses use ios apple because of more security than Android.
If they themselves tap trust. What can you do?
Or hold a gun to your head, sometimes literally.
THANK YOU!!! Thank you, thank you. So important, relevant, not enough well known coverage on these topics. Awesome and super freekin well done.
On my android phone i have restricted one app with no permission. But as soon as otp comes on sms it directly fetches it. So thats android for you
answer for 99.9% of the population: it doesn't matter.. use common sense. if you put sensitive data on a phone or any device, secure it according to its sensitivity, whether it be password protection, encryption, etc. and if it's that sensitive that you even worry about it after that, then don't put it on any device or at least not one connected to any network whatsoever. what is YOUR threat model? if you're spending your time worrying and your situation is such that nobody really cares about you or your personal info (aside from marketers and fraudsters), then you're spending precious moments of your time trying to safeguard things for no good reason and wasting your life away doing it, while also enduring the inconveniences that come from doing it.
wow I love this comment. surprised no one commented under it. I have been wasting so much time trying to figure this out. wondering what phone u use ?
This is like android fourteen with One ui 6.1 Isn't it great?
Didn't age well. At least with privacy part.
I dont get why people are pissed off just cuz a company knows what videos you watch for research purposes
I don't think Apple "perfects" over time. They just make micro updates to optimize profits. Always have but then gas light everyone to think slow progress is the best. Even when the change is only logical to implement quickly.
Have a question on this app
Shared Security Show
Is this app can be use for your Android phone let me know
And where I can buy it and how much is it and can u tell me how many procentage is secure for this phone
It’s actually a podcast you can listen to.
@@Thatbeardedguy86No Apple only uses ads for the App Store. Google is literally an advertising company

Both company is same. Anyone can use a phone number and take your info in just 5 mins. It's so simple to do that. Technically there's no privacy.
Wow, that’s a very sad world you live in.
I prefer Android because I like the ringtones
RIP Blackberry 🥲
Well, since Google makes it's money from collecting and using user data, I think Apple wins the privacy war currently, but I'm sure Apple will wade deeper into that pool of cash as time goes on.
Perhaps. I think the greater threat is Apple needing to work through regulatory hurdles and adding new features that aren't privacy-friendly.
But, Android with Coston Rom NO GAPPS.
ANDROID WIN
Since the Apple business model is basically based on selling its hardware, they will need to diversify and offer more pay as you go services. As that happens, “Apple privacy” will likely diminish to some extent.
@@John-gt8sp do you have a button in apple like advertising I'd. See
Except apple has started to make more aggressive moves towards advertising also. Both the same in my book.
Ios is more secured obviously because everythign is run by 1 company. Android is scattered and you can install unsecured APK wich Apple won't allow.
