Glad you touched on the springs. Reading about a low mileage engine under 125K on it. The spring broke. He ended up with bearing material in the engine. Totally trashed.
11:10 What kind of problems? Just bought a truck that suppose to have a rebuilt motor. Builder quality unknown. I have 1998.5 24v with crank sensor on lower driver side of block. I am chasing a low or no oil pressure at idle and 20 psi with throttle bumped to 2k rpm.(Strange thing is at idle the low reading makes no sense because I removed the mechanical gauge and the oil pressure shot up to the hood(mess everywhere) I have changed the oil pump and oil filter head thinking something may be wrong with oil pressure regulator. I came across your video. I now wonder if the oil cooler is incorrect. Oil pressure is the same low or no pressure at idle and 20 psi at 2k rpm
I just bought a new oil cooler mine is a 96 I didn't see no sealant on the original should I put sealant around the gasket that goes before the cooler and after the cooler or just one or the other or should I just put none at all
I just did mine last week but the only gasket I had was the one with the window but the one I took off didn’t have the window “I thought it was a new design”. I haven’t cranked it yet. Does it matter if I put the newer gasket on an older engine/cooler?
Just ran across your video, always wondered about the gaskets. I just pulled a “old style oil cooler” dump to pump off my storm block vp44 truck. So “new style cooler” dump to sump with a storm block gasket will work?? Is that correct?
Thanks for all the helpful videos. What is common practice (or ‘extra insurance’ ) using sealant on the oil cooler core to block and oil filter housing to core gaskets? Had a bad experience with a bad fitting mcbee gasket and ordered the genuine cummins. My Cummins manual does not specify using sealant. Have a 2 drips/second leak from oil filter housing gaskets after using hightack on the mcbee gasket. Thanks in advance....
I recently purchased a 2001 5.9. Previous owners mechanic put all the gaskets the kit came with on. Now has mixed oil and coolant. Could be because of the gaskets its mixing ? Or something else ? Head gasket etc
I ended up selling it, and the guys drove it to state over no problems. I put more oil in it and coolant replacement than I care to admit. Can’t believe they drove it and it made it. Wish I kept it.
Great video. I’m doing the oil cooler on my 96 and it had the storm block style gasket with the window. Should I put a non storm block gasket on it or a storm block gasket on it? Thanks.
I have an 02 5.9 cummins I just ordered a new oil cooler i have the storm block . The cooler is a cummins part but it gave me a pre storm gasket for the oil filter housing to cooler. The coolers are the same and my dump to pump was blocked by old cooler . And same with new cooler can I use that pre storm gasket . It was dump to sump .with old cooler
I am gonna be replacing gaskets and the oil cooler soon. I saw a power driven diesel video saying those guys didnt have good luck with mahle gaskets and that they used the cheeper interstate mcbee brand gasket. Do you have a brand of oil cooler and gasket you prefer? I was looking on rockauto at a an oil cooler brand called enginetech which is out stock at the moment. You ever ordered an enginetech or Alliant brand oilcooler? Im trying to figure out what brand I should get so I dont have leaks or problems down the road. Thanks!
pai , mcbee , engine tech , all seem to be ok, i use what i can get when i replace them, gaskets i have never had issues with i put high tach on both and torque them with thread locker on the bolts
@@CUTTERUPROB Thanks for the quick reply. Just found a huge crack on my '99 stock exhaust manifold right in the center of it about 3 inches long where the 123 meet up with 456. It was on the bottom so I couldnt see it easily. Bought a steed speed and fleece stainless steel m10 studs. Gonna be real nice paired up with my borgwarner turbo. I love watching your videos and wrenching on my truck! Sucks fuel is so expensive right now ughh. Thanks again for the content and answering questions for us in the comments. I will make sure to like all your videos to help out the channel.
Did you make the common rail video? I just got a QSB oil cooler/remote filter head so I can run my filter on the frame rails and I want to get all the right parts for it and make sure it will swap over correctly. Going on a 16 2500.
Curious, my 97 12 valve has the non-storm block without the extra oil drain. Manufactured 5-96. Just replaced the oil cooler and didn’t have the extra hole
Mine is a first gen had a ve pump now it has the p7100 mine didn’t have the window but the new cooler came with all the gaskets it kinda looked like the long window was for the oil bypass?
How bad is it to have high oil pressure 🤔 when I was building Honda engines we wanted high pressure? Cold start oil pressure is around 80psi warmed up she is around 40 and 800rpm
Videos like this one and the Injector washer size is a wealth of knowledge
i have lots on things like this, figured i better get the info out of my head before i forget lol

This took me forever to figure out… then I find this.
Its 4th of july and I got no one to call.
Thanks so much for making this video !!!
Answered my question.. 👍🏻😊🙏🏻
Glad it helped ya out
Great information... Didn't know this.
🙏

I would put some
i was always wondering what all the gaskets were for. 👍
Glad I could help
How about the inner, Cooler to block? I see non mls and mls? Any thoughts?
I use both. Just depends on the comes it the kit.

99% of the time yes
@@CUTTERUPROB so I need to take it back a part?
you can, or just see what the pressure is like when you start it
When you say case sealant are we talkin silicone or like permatex high tack gasket sealant, which product do you use?
I put a link to the stuff i use in the description

I use a bit of case sealant on them all the time. You will have zero leakage issues
If you used a 97 gasket on say a 95/96 would you have the possibility of leaking coolant and oil but not mixing?
You should not
I recently purchased a 2001 5.9. Previous owners mechanic put all the gaskets the kit came with on. Now has mixed oil and coolant. Could be because of the gaskets its mixing ? Or something else ? Head gasket etc
Something cracked
Oil cooler
Headgasket
Is basically the only things
I ended up selling it, and the guys drove it to state over no problems. I put more oil in it and coolant replacement than I care to admit. Can’t believe they drove it and it made it. Wish I kept it.

really deson't matter , but i like to use the gasket that should be in there
Right now Cummins website has the oil cooler core on clearance, 130$ off. Just ordered mine for my 96.

I haven’t done it for commonrail. I will add it to the list
Thanks you very good

ya some do some don't
Hello excuse me my car is cummins 5.9 litre.12 valve pressing of oil is low why please
Lots of stuff can make it do that. Hard to tell with someone looking at it.
I put on both gaskets on my cummins oil cooler😕did I made a mistake?
Like you stacked them on top of each other ? If that’s the case , that’s wrong
@@CUTTERUPROB oh shit🤪

Depends on the cooler and or block. But new coolers are dump to sump
Can you use an oil filter housing off a vp44 engine on a 12 valve block
Sure can
What happens if you use the wrong gasket? What are the signs of using the wrong gasket?
depends on the combo but most common is crazy high pressure
@@CUTTERUPROB Yep I got that.
How bad is it to have high oil pressure 🤔 when I was building Honda engines we wanted high pressure? Cold start oil pressure is around 80psi warmed up she is around 40 and 800rpm
i have seen 125psi cold witch can be high enough to wash bearings
