@@tracynewman3256 Many (many) years ago, I wrote a paper on Kevin Barry for history class in the 7th or 8th grade Imagine my surprise when I presented it and my history teacher had never heard of him. (Early 70's, South Carolina.) btw... I'm fairly sure you know... there's another channel on YT that uploaded 41 of your videos from "What's New" back in Feb... A LOT of songs you don't have here. They are getting very few views, I don't think anyone knows the channel exists. I spent several hours last night watching all of the ones I hadn't seen here on your channel. I was blown away by "A Horse Named Bill." (It reminded me of the folk stuff Johnny Cash was doing during the same period) And loved "Rock Island Line, and all of the others. I was wondering why you don't upload these onto your channel? I've noticed you said before that you hadn't used the video that had glitches etc, but it all looked fine to me.... I hate seeing those videos sitting neglected with 20 views when I know if you uploaded them to your channel, the views would be in the thousands, and your fans would be crazy excited to see them. This is where they expect to find you. I hope you're doing well Tracy, Stay safe..... Now I'm gonna go listen to "A Horse Named Bill," again. :)

The guitar looks like a combination of a steel 6-string with a classical machine head and without a pick guard. I guess that the brand was not supposed to be shown for advertising reasons.

You did an amazing job Tracy, thank you
This is wonderful.
Thank you! I love this song. I don't remember where or when I learned it, but they used it in a great movie called "Angela's Ashes."

once I heard that the queen had died I came to listen to this song
Thank you for putting this up.

Great song!
Sung by a beautiful young woman 👌
Early on a Sunday morning
High upon a gallows tree,
Kevin Barry gave his young life
For the cause of liberty.
Only a lad of eighteen summers,
And yet there's no one can deny,
That he went to death that morning,
Nobly held his head upon high.
"Shoot me like anIirish soldier.
Do not hang me like a dog,
For I fought for Ireland's freedom
On that cold September morn.
"All around the little bakery
Where we fought them hand to hand,
Shoot me like an Irish soldier,
For I fought to free Ireland."
Just before he faced the hangman
In his lonely prison cell
British soldiers tortured Barry
Just because he would not tell
All the names of his brave companions
And other things they wished to know
"Turn informer and we'll free you"
Proudly. Barry answered, "no"
"Shoot me like an Irish soldier.
Do not hang me like a dog,
For I fought for Ireland's freedom
On that cold September morn.
"All around the little bakery
Where we fought them hand to hand,
Shoot me like an Irish soldier,
For I fought to free Ire land."
Ron - The last line of each chorus is "For I fought to free Ireland." Thanks for doing this, by the way!
My bad, ftfy
An "anti-British" song on PBS! I've dropped my tote bag in shock!
progression feels like E, A, and F#/B7 (basically a B7 chord, but the base note is the F#). This is including the capo of course.
Victor - That's how I always play the B7 position.
In Mountjoy jail one Monday morning
High upon the gallows tree,
Kevin Barry gave his young life
For the cause of liberty.
But a lad of eighteen summers,
And yet there's no one can deny,
As he walked to death that morning,
He nobly held his head upon high.

David - Yes. I have all of them. I haven't posted because of my performance on some of them, but I might do it since so many are asking. Watch for it!
I thought her banjo picking was good...
Not enough emotion
I barely understood the song back then. Good call, Keelin.
Now its bad to sing about freedom...instead they-thems screech about their preffered😂 pronouns
