Thanks woofusdad :) I think many ex miners fondly remember their time underground. Well, that's what they end up talking about to Phil whenever we meet them lol So far, I don;t need glasses other than for close up work. If ever I need them to mudlark, I'll have to attach them with a rubber band or I'll lose them in the water lol
Thank you both, love to listen to Phil tell me all about my local history, I've learned more from Phil than I did at school, I walk the Rhymney river quite regularly, (Aberbargoed girl) since watching your channel I now mud lark and use my finds in crafts too. My grandmother was a Johnson and came from Fleur-de-lis. I enjoyed the history on that particular video very much. Keep up the good work guys!
That's great Sian, we love it when the videos inspire others to go out and enjoy the nature and history all around them... And with you being almost a Johnson, well how good is that 😄 Thanks for watching and for the great comment 🌻🙂🌷😎🌼🐼🌻
At 7:08 you found the top cap of a suspension insulator (type used on pylons and HV poles). The ceramic insulator is broken away. I go to South wales, insulator hunting and I'm thinking we need to check rivers now!
I loved this adventure!! Beautiful setting, super interesting history, and you both always seem so happy to be wherever you are!! See you on the next adventure!
Greeted by the "hairy dog fish" I see😂😊. My first guess for the mystery object was a switch of some sort, before reading the other comments. It's great that others help id things, many thanks to them. As soon as Caroline said piano, I knew she was right! Where is the rest?🤔Lovely little stream adventure, thank you.🥰🤗
Yes, people are so helpful, which is great, as we all learn together 🎓 And it's incredible what turns up in the rivers! Take care, and as always thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Wow...Your country side is so beautiful and your rivers look much cleaner than our rivers in Canada.. Your water is so clear that you can find so many nice pieces of history.....
Yes Randy, that's the benefit of living in an area that was at the center of the industrial revolution, so lot's of history and artifacts. But due to the mass pit closures in the 80's and the continuing decline of all heavy industry throughout Wales, our once poisoned and polluted rivers are now running clear and nature is reclaiming the land around. All the best over in Canada, and thanks for watching 🙂🙃🐼
hello another super vidio,,,,,,thanks for takeng us along with you ....my friend and me went detecting this week,,,found gold and silver ,,,,and lots more ,,,,,good luck with your future hunts .regards Simon and Adrian.
Lovely crook you got there Phill, looks hand bent and everything! Lovely fossils, the history lessons are so interesting and to top it all a mad mystery object . Excellent as always. Thanks
You're so right Cheryl, and at the moment we're getting the weather to show it off at it's best, 🌞 but of course we can't have all the greenery without all the rain 🌧🌦🌧 And we get more than our fair share of that 😄 Stay safe 🙂😎🐼

Loved the lark, AND the history of the colliery that was there! Phil, you mentioned a site on the internet we could go to see pictures of the area as they were preparing for the colliery, I didn't quite get the name ? Thanks! Enjoyed as usual!!😊
Hi Kathy, I think the reference was to a painting done by L S Lowry in 1965 which you can see on this link artuk.org/discover/artworks/bargoed-162390 it shows the colliery and the huge spoil tip that stood higher than the surrounding mountains. Thanks for the comment. Phil
The industrial revolution is to me, such a fascinating time in all of our histories. Quite extraordinary really.. I will have to watch the viaduct video again (: xx Teresa 🇦🇺❤
I agree Teresa, the industrial revolution is a fascinating time that we all share as a common history that had such a massive impact on all our lives. 🙂😎🐼
Caroline, I think your first find of the video may be a baby mammoth tooth! Looked familiar as you spotted it....did you hear my shout?? Great time with you and Phil today. Loved hearing the history of your home town and country.
Thank you for taking us on a journey through the country of Wales.. My grandfather was born in Anglesey in the 1880's ( I think that is about 4 hrs north of Bargoed. He immigrated to the US and settled in Wisconsin, USA. His surname was Hughes. I think you are my favorite mudlarking videos as you always have a bit of history to share. Do you take home any of the bricks you find? They would make a fantastic garden wall.
Thanks :) Yes, about 4 hours away from us. We went to Anglesey for a day trip when on holidays in Rhyl. It is a beautiful place. Hughes is a very 'Welshie' name :)We used to take the bricks home, as we were going to build something, but now we are slowly clearing out ready for our move into a motorhome, so we leave them behind.
Thank you Johnson's for your great videos. I had never heard of L.S. Lowry before, there about 80 of his works on FB, just genius. There was a song in the late 60's called Pictures of Matchstick Men that was inspired by Mr. Lowry. My family migrated from southeast Wales in about 1868 and eventually settled in Pittsburgh Pa, they probably felt much at home, heavy industry, coal, hills, valleys, hard work and deep enduring faith.
Thank you Michael :) I remember the one from 1978. it got to number 1 here in the UK. Relocating to Pa must have been such an adventure! Hard work but such a huge change! Yes, it sounds pretty similar to Wales at that time.
Those fossils are just ace !.we picked up a few fossilized chalk shells from the ploughed fields down in Dorset they used to cal them shepherds purses Years ago.great video guys .happy hunting ! A & S

I never had much luck with the style of grabber you use, if you ever need a new one, check out "Handi-Grip". The grip is perfect for mudlarking....and picking up coins!!
Thanks Margaret :) So far so good for me with this type, other than the annoying creak that starts after a while. Next time I buy one, I'll definitely give the Handigrip a try :)
those was tree trunk impressions on that rock and those holes were wee worm holes. Honest. You missed getting a good shovel handle there. You could have made that industrial roller the hand grip that was missing. Well spotted Caroline . That was out of a Piano. You two need to get higher wellies for deep water.
