That is a interesting topic, I wonder how much horse power John Deere could get out of a modern 2 cylinder engine. Might make for a good video. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
The reason Deere quit making 2-cylinder tractors was because they had maxed out size-wise what 2-cylinders could do. There was no room to add more cylinders. The 3010/3020 had 4 cylinders and the 4010/4020 had 6 cylinders but the crankshaft went front to back rather than left to right.
@@smidtwarnerThe potential of the 2 cylinder wasn't quite maxed out; they all ran at very low rpm, few were diesel, multiple valves &/or turbos weren't available. It was primarily the customers & especially competitors who labeled them obsolete, despite many of the multi-cylinder designs being quite old also. Clearly the 2cylinders could have been updated with advanced hydraulics & perhaps transmissions. But, the clean break to the New Generation leapfrogged much of the competition. Tractor pullers have JD G - 730 turning out 85-105 HP, so it's possible...

@@davidkottman3440 It’s crazy whenever I go to a tractor pull and see the unstyled G out pulling some of the newer tractors. The most recent one I went to had a 730 diesel which I think out pulled everyone else lol.
My uncle restored two of these tractors before he passed away 20 years ago.
My family owned a 630 LP. ❤
I have the 630 my Dad bought new.

I have a 630 my grandfather brought new with 3bottom 810 plow also have a 50 and B he owned and 730 i brought
The 30 series were not tested at Nebraska. No mechanical changes were made from the 20 series, only the cosmetic changes you mentioned so no test was deemed necessary.
The new tractors will never last as long as these old 2 bangers. The new ones are junk to start with.
Love the 2 cylinders grew up on them still use a 49 A it's 4 years older than me and a58 630 love em
Well at least John Deere is staying with tradition, their new garbage is junk and that two cylinder obsolete garbage was junk right off the end of the assembly line, and now John Deere infinite wisdom is laying everybody off in the US and going back to Mexico! And people wonder why I hate John Deere and mostly it's a John Deere idiots in their attitudes that they think they have the best on the planet, got news for you you don't there's better equipment out there if you pull your head out of your ass

So why are the spark plug towers on the distributor cap 90 degrees apart instead of 180 degrees separation?
They are not running compression stroke opposite each other. Crank is 180 degree difference between pistons so spark happens half as often. (90 degrees) To have 180 degree difference on distributor would require pistons to be on same crank throw which would be very hard to balance in big 2cyl engine.

so plug 1 fires.
The rotor turns 90 degrees then plug 2 fires.
Now the distributors has to rotate 270 degrees to be in position for plug 1 again.
How does that work?
