In this video I will be going into the story of the role of George McFly being recast and how it lead to a lawsuit that changed the film industry forever.
The irony of the story. The George McFly character teaches us to stand up for ourselves to achieve our goals and when he does it in real life he gets screwed over.
@@LEWIS1992 his demand was to be paid Equal to his son character, not more money without context. Are you a Trumper? It's this type of accusation that is so trumpest and invalid

Shame he didn't like the ending. I never thought they were happy because they had money! Great trilogy of films and I never knew it wasn't him all the way through! They done a great job on the films.
I just thought it was the prosthetics making him look weird when he was upside down. Didn't even know he was recast so it's a good thing this happened when it did. I always used to refer to Crispin Glover as "Willard" so it makes sense I wouldn't recognize this actor I didn't really know at the time and if it weren't for the UA-cam algorithm presenting me with this video, I might've gone my whole life thinking Crispin Glover was in BTTF2.
Sad part is Jeffrey Weissman is best known for playing as George McFly stand in despite having sone film roles later. So his best known role is a recast with sneaky prosthetics in Part 2 and 3 of a film trilogy that started in the mid 80s and ended in the early 90's
Ditto to never knowing about this situation with Glover. His performance as George McFly is phenomenal, it’s sad that this was going on behind the scenes. I hope he still has some positives to reflect on when he remembers this iconic series.
I didn’t really see the ending as, “because they have money means their life is better” I saw it more as, since the circumstances of George and Loraine’s relationship changed, their life was better and the money was just a perk.
Really interesting to consider the CGI aspect of bringing someone back to life as it were like the Paul Walker example. Does his estate get a say in his likeness being used or compensated? I should hope so. It is odd to think they’re animating a dead person. I remember them doing this with Steve McQueen for a commercial. It was either for the Mustang or a watch. Can’t remember exactly.
Paul Walker's own brother took part as a stand-in for Paul in several scenes, as he looks rather like Paul. For closer shots, Paul's face was superimposed through CGI. So yes, Paul's family cooperated with the producers. But Paul had already completed most of his work when he died, and he would have been paid already. I'm not sure what other payment was provided to Paul's brother for his work As for other cases where a dead star was featured in a commercial or something else, using CGI or Photoshop etc., yes, that could only be done with the permission of the estate of that star, and for a fee. Audrey Hepburn's animated image was used in a Dove chocolate commercial, and her face and name have appeared in other commercial uses. Her sons control her estate and only give approval to selected parties.
They usually do need permission from the family or estate, yes. But this video makes me wonder if that would be the case without the Crispin Glover lawsuit.
The message of the first movie's ending wasn't "Money buys you happiness". It was that you have to stand up for and believe in yourself in order to succeed in your goals. Remember the emphasis on George's book being published, and the phrase "When you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything.".
Glover read an early draft of the script where George was still hanging upside. He thought that was put there to "punish him" and it was yet another reason why he was annoyed. So that didn't exist merely to disguise the other actor.
Yeah, I've heard it was written to make sure Glover didn't pace around, ruining some very difficult to create compositing shots. He apparent got very mobile when he was in character while filming the original, having a bad habit of wandering out of frame.
I always thought Crispin almost kicking David Letterman in the face was what scuttled his career. Is it really that easy to recast a role when there are idiots on the Internet crying about how confusing they find it when an actor plays a different character on the same series?
I have found online before copies of the early scripts for BTTF part 2 and these early scripts appeared to not include George McFly. In the early script George McFly passed away in 2013 and in 2015 Lorraine dedicates a new wing at the Hil Valley Hospital to George McFly, she makes the mention about how there were plans to not build the hospital in the 1970s and how George McFly survived a car accident thanks to that hospital being nearby hence the decision to dedicate a wing to George McFly. In the early script future Marty and Jennifer get a divorce as a result of Marty's financial incompetance, this pushes Marty to purchase the Sports Almanac. In the alternate 1985 in the early script Biff's casino is in the location of the Hill Valley hospital and George did not survive the car accident because there was no hospital in 1973. In the early script Marty and Doc travel back to the 1960s and have no issues getting the book off Biff, Marty then burns the book in a public place resulting in him getting arrested and 1960s Lorraine bails Marty out using the money she planning on spending for a trip to see George who was working in Washington. Lorraine not being able to afford to go to Washington means Marty wouldn't be conceived that weekend. Marty has the mission to get Loraine to accept the money from another source so that she will go to Washington. Also the time machine Fusion reactor is destroyed after it was shot by old man Peabody, this means Marty and Doc have to fly the Delorean across high voltage lines over the Grand Canyon to get the power needed to return to 1985. The early script does not allow for a third movie but appears to not include Geroge McFly as a visible charcater.
If that bit about being set in the 60s was true, i think we were better with the plots to write around him. Otherwise it sounds like 2 would have just been 1 all over again, but in the 60s this time
Actually, Glover blames BTTF producer and co-writer Bob Gale. Zemeckis and Glover worked again on "Beowulf" and Glover said the subject of the lawsuit "never came up."
He was also impossible to work with and would be acting crazy on set. The director said he would pace back and fourth when told to stay still during a scene and would act like a crazy person. Also wanted 2 million for the next back to the future. If your going to act like that then what did he expect
Concerning 6:18, Crispin Glover did not win his case on the merits (though he might have done if the case had continued), but instead it was settled out of court. The change to SAG/AFTRA's rules may very well have been motivated by Glover's experience, but it wouldn't be the direct result of Glover's lawsuit against Universal even if Glover had received final judgment in his favor. The union wasn't a party to the lawsuit and is free to set its own rules independently of whatever the court might have decided in Glover's case.
Glover did not 'win' the case as such, as the matter was 'settled out of court' for $760,000 - the studio knew it was losing and didn't want bad media to compound their loses!!! .... However it resulted in a landmark case that a few actors have used as reference to stop their identity theft - like Michael Biehn in Alien 3, where the production studio used his likeness on a corpse without his permission...
i was merely sad he just simply was not in part 2. 2 is entertaining, but Crispin, man, he could have made it just as good as 1. He was sorely missing.
@@mondomacabromajor5731 Getting paid for being a corpse, with zero lines and no need to appear on set. I call that a good win, especially if busy with another project.
@@gorillaau Well, it is a win for sure - just a pity the film killed off the best characters and scripted a daft plot of Ripley with no guns on a prison planet full of british guys!
I watched this because of a Tarkin short I saw earlier that briefly mentioned the George situation at the end. Now this video shows Tarkin at the end. The circle is now complete
When this came out I was a kid, and I never thought it was money that created the 'rewards'. I always thought it was because there was character growth, even at that age, even though I would have struggled to explain it. So Glover missed out.
I've seen Glover and others from the movie including a producer and Leah Thompson in interviews, and they all say the original ending to BTTF 1 was changed and the wealth of the McFly family toned/played down compared to how rich the family was written as having become originally. This was the producers/directors’ attempt to address Glover’s concerns. Also, Glover agreed to return for BTTF 2; he just asked that he be paid as much as Leah Thompson. She was paid significantly more than him in the first movie, despite the fact the two had pretty much equal amounts of screen time.
Crispin Glover was endeared to our family with his great acting. Love the movie series bought it 5 times. Our copy and for each of our children to have as they moved out. It's one we watch almost every year. Enjoyed the ending of first, the take away from my kids was not about money but "what decision you make in the moment" directs your future.
5:18 I didn't know they re-cast him, but always though these scenes actually worked better being kind of obscured in the background and assumed it was an artistic choice.
1. Don't use a person's likeness without their consent. I agree 100%. 2. Movies have gone on and moved on without a noticeable character in it's follow-up from it's previous movie to be very successful. That's it.
Honestly, I completely understand why Crispin Glover sued the company. It was unethical and unfair for them to use his image without his consent. I understand why they did it, but that doesn’t make it any less wrong. I’m proud of Glover for taking them to court, so no studio could do anything like that again without consent.
So he let people believe that he was mad because of the “money means happiness” message when he was ACTUALLY mad because someone was getting MORE MONEY than him.
They should had just recast Glover with a actor that was about his height and filmed it. The studio should had told him “if you don’t like the pay, we will find a actor that does. He wouldn’t have too look like a twin just a actor to fill the role.
The hypocrisy is that Glover disliked the ending of the first film because he thought it was about money, and he wasn't in the second film because he demanded more money and didn't get it.
Claudia Wells, the girl that played the original Jennifer didn’t understand why some of the actors and executives had kids on the set in closed bedrooms on the set and there was no children cast….when she spoke out about it she was fired and she left Hollywood all together because she didn’t like what she saw going on with the kids….
You know what's kind of sad about this whole thing? It all boils down to HIS opinion of the end of the movie. How HE took it personally. I watched that movie when I was a kid (I was like 6 when it came out) at an influential age. I absolutely loved it and watched it SO much growing up. I NEVER took the ending or movie as the "money buys happiness". Being much like George myself, being into "dork" stuff and being bullied a lot as well. I actually took a completely DIFFERENT message from it. That standing up for yourself or not being afraid to try new things or express yourself regardless of fears of failure can get you where you want to go. A completely wholesome message. I WAS sad to see what his character became in the 2nd movie. Funny that he thought the movie delivered a negative message but in reality it was pretty amazing.
maybe there can be a back to future 4 where george mcfly goes back in time and tells himself to just agree to do the sequal to back to the future part one
As strange as it may sound they could have just recast George McFly. I mean they recasted Jennifer, and the movies were still amazing. Might have been interesting to see where the storyline ended up in the 60’s.
If you haven't yet, watch The Congress. They get deep into this subject...and was really prophetic when you look a digital recreations like Luke Skywalker in The Mandolorian.
Wow. I didn't know any of that until now. The sad thing is when you are involved in such a big project, which I think is the chance of a lifetime for many to find themselves in such a situation. I don't want to judge the story. That's certainly not fair, because I don't know anything. Except for the information I've heard here now. But I think that this is only a summary of the story. But I suspect maybe he'd be happier today if he'd just been more willing to compromise back then. But like I said, that's just my thought, a guess.
WOW, I never realized that he was recast later on, but I was wondered why they didn´t showed his face from front, not even once, just upside down with lots of prosthetics, but it was obvious for me that they made it purposefully. At least now i know why. Thanks.
I saw "Back to the Future" within days after it premiered. I knew little about it going in other than it involved time travel. And time travel has always been a great fictional concept for me. George Pal's "The Time Machine," for example, was a favorite of mine as a child. To me, "Back to the Future" was magic, and I unhesitantly recommended it to everyone, proclaiming that it would be a hit film. The magic behind the film was the wonderful relationships between the characters Marty, Doc Brown, George, Lorraine, and Biff. And while I too immediately spotted the "wealth brings happiness" theme at the end, I didn't have any problem with it because George's wealth came from his creative writing ability. George went with his dream of becoming an excellent science fiction writer and he ultimately succeeded. What could be wrong with that? As for "Back to the Future II," although Bob Gale's story was that Chrispin Glover wanted too much money, that story doesn't ring true. The real problem was that Bob Gale didn't like Crispin's take on the original movie and that he stated his position openly. And even though Bob Gale was an excellent writer, in this case, he was a bad producer. A good producer finds ways to solve problems, not create new ones. If Gale were a good producer, he would have told Chrispin that he was absolutely right that a message of "wealth equals happiness" wouldn't be a morally good message. That would have been the truth. He would have told Chrispin that it wasn't their intention to make materiality the message. Instead, it was to make "following your creative dreams" and "living your life with honor and integrity" the messages. Furthermore, Gale should have told Chrispin that he and Bob Zemeckis truly wanted Chrispin to be in the second installment, and maybe the third too. And Gale should have solicited Chrispin's input on the second installment, pointing out to Chrispin that "Back to the Future II" had an implicit message that "unchecked wealth and power was a corrupt and dangerous combination," as personified by Biff's life choices when he had the benefit of time travel. In other words, instead of treating Chrispin as a foe or a troublesome actor, Gale should have treated him as a friend and ally. There is no doubt in my mind that had Bob Gale treated Chispin as the great talent that he was (and is) and treated him with respect and as an ally, he would have happily joined the cast of "Back to the Future II," and it would have been a much better film, instead of the weak sequel that it is. But, alas, there's no time travel available to prove that I'm right. And as a final footnote, Bob Zemeckis did patch things up with Chrispin after his successful lawsuit. In fact, Bob Zemeckis hired Chrispin for one of his films well after "Back to the Future II." But because Bob Gale was a much better writer than a producer, he never apologized to Chrispin or tried to make amends to this day.
You are right. Better communication is the key to making amends and solving the issues between them. But Bob Gale chose ego, and making George Mcfly characters wierdly felt different in BTTF2 even though how hard they tried to use prosthetic face to emulate Crispin Glover over Steve Weissman face
I never thought the ending was about money guys happiness. I thought it was about how things can change when you stand up for yourself. I am shaking my head in shock disbelief at this video.
I didn't like the ending either. I liked that the family was stable and happy but them being rich and the huge truck for Marty seemed unnecessary. Plus them rubbing their happiness in Biffs face seemed a big cruel.
This lawsuit, with the improvements in digital graphics and faceswap apps will need to be revisised. And hopefully protect people when thier faces are used in videos they never really appeared in
That was so stupid of Crispin Glover. The message was obviously confidence breeds success. I mean it was said a few times in the movie Doc told Marty “ if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything” Then Marty said that to young George and then old George said that to Marty.
I hope this guy have gotten a better mic for his other videos since currently it sounds like hes clenching his teeth as he talks, I had to focus on the video to actually understand what was said, which is a shame since I like having this type of thing running in the background as I work.
It’s my understanding that Glover and BTTF producers agreed to a settlement. Glover’s resentment seems to more directed at writer/producer Bob Gale as he has worked Zemeckis since BTTF.
Glover was the one who had the author element added to the ending from what I heard. This is what made Gale angry, Glover disputed the original ending idea--and so when the sequel was being made, Gale put the dig in about the money. Gale was blacklisted after that lawsuit. He has hardly done anything since BTTF 3. Spielberg didn't like being dragged into it-the Poltergeist case was bad enough (also settled out of court). It is understandable he would expect more money for a sequel, especially if he had a prominent role (which wasn't the case).
I have read and done a little research. into BTTF but I hadn't Heard anything about Gale being blacklisted .If this was true was the reason due to what happened to Glover or something else?
I have read and done a little research. into BTTF but I hadn't Heard anything about Gale being blacklisted .If this was true was the reason due to what happened to Glover or something else?
I've read about abd researched BTTF . I wasn't aware or heard that Bob Gale was blacklisted . If this is so, why was this the case? Is it related to BTTF?
Glover mentioned it in an interview a few years ago that Gale lost more than he did because of the court case, but if you check his IMDB, Gale has done almost nothing after 1995 except BTTF related things. No big Hollywood projects while Zemeckis was not affected at all by lawsuit. Maybe it was something else but of the court players, Gale was the one who had the biggest career downturn. Unless it was by choice.
Happyness itself can't be bought, but when you have money you can buy things that make you happy. Now there are 3 things that can't be bought, and that is a good health, real love and real friends, but everything else is for sale alright!
Glover saw "money buys happiness". What I saw: "Having the courage to fight for what you love gives other people permission to do the same." Im reading through the comments and the anti-american/anti-capitalist sentiments are overwhelming. Sounds like alot of people out there still need to stand up to Biff...
Would love to watch, but I can’t. Sound/voice is muffled and not clear so I’m fighting to listen even with an external speaker on iPad Pro. Need better audio.
Jeffrey Weissman is a good actor, despite what Glover may have said about his performance. It's only a movie: I'd bet that a lot of people, including the filmmakers, were more interested in the story than exactly who played George McFly.
The public loved him in the role. It's our loss. Wish the producers had conceded more to make it work. Not the same without Crispin and Claudia. Lacking in love.
I understand to a point where Glover is coming from. But to say the ending was solely about money is a stretch. To me it was about how standing up for yourself and applying yourself with confidence can reward one with success of all types including money. Personal and emotional success is the meaning to the end of the movie in my opinion. Glover at the time the movie was hugely popular had great influence with BTTF franchise and tried to sway his star power with the producers and they flat said that his actions weren't going to be tolerated. That is why Glover to this day is still salty with Zemekis. He got put in his place.
I don't blame Krispin Glover one bit. I grew up with these films and until today and after watching this video, I had no idea that wasn't Crispin. I wasn't a big fan of his acting in the second movie and now I know why! That was a pretty $hittyt thing for them to have done.
Where did Glover get the idea that they were trying to say money buys happiness? Wjat I got out of it is that if you put your mind to it you could accomplish anything. Crispin definitely has a few screws missing.
There are other issues with Glover that aren’t touched on here. He is notoriously INSANE, really difficult to work with, butts heads with other actors and the director constantly, and thinks he’s a much bigger star than he is.
Honestly, if an actor doesn't want to do any more films, writing him or her out of the sequels would be better than recasting. I mean, if Back to the Future doesn't have any novels or source material and the movies were completely original, it's should be so easy to rewrite the screenplay for Part 2 to avoid involvement of George McFly.
Trouble is that in a movie series about time travel that last time ended back in the (slightly improved) present you'd have to come up with a reason why the dad wasn't there in the present or anything set in the family's future, BUT you'd also need a reason why he was no longer anywhere in their past, despite having already been established as part of their past. Unless they restricted the sequels to only travel back to dates earlier than the Dad's birth date, but being able to revisit 1955 in the sequels was a very important hook to make the sequels work, as the sequels were always going to be a lot more involved than just 'Marty and Doc have a whole new time travel adventure completely unconnected to the one they had last time'.
Paul Walker did not die. He is the Maze Runner with dark hair, a new upper lip and nose job and contacts, and notice how they film him a lot from the rear and above to hide his height.
"Digitally Resurrecting" an actor requires the permission of their estate. As for whether its a good thing or not, I would land on the side of it depends on the actors opinion of the practice. Like if Mark Hamil said tomorrow that he wants Disney to digitally resurrect him so he can be Luke Skywalker for the next 1000 years, then no problem. But if he clearly said "Hell no", then it should never be done.
Glover should have bargained for as much as possible, and taken the role in the sequel. If he doesn’t like an ending, then he can produce his own movie. Too many opinions in Hollywood, not enough work ethic.
I always felt he looked a little different in certain scenes even with the time travel makeup This has blown my mind… I work at an 80s themed arcade and we regularly play the trilogy, I still didn’t know until this video that the first dad wasn’t in the sequels I knew they recast Jennifer just never realized the dad was too All the things you acted like should have been obvious but from the comments most people didn’t realize it either
The lawsuit was just and now actors can't have their appearances stolen. As far as the ending of the first movie, I do see it from Glover's perspective, they McFlys didn't have to be yuppie rich. They could have easily shown them in the same house but happier and well adjusted. The proof that the first film made Glover a star and depended on him (perhaps even more so than Fox), are the sequels. The other two films don't have the same quality.
Can't say that I have seen the actor, or heard his name talked about much since this movie but the director sure has gone on to huge fame and bigger projects.
At the end of the movie Marty's mom says look your first Novel so he is just getting started with his writing this is why they are still in the middle class house.
I never understood why they bothered. Marty's girlfriend was cast to a different actress in 2 from 1. They show horn Elizabeth Shue in there replacing Claudia Wells and just gave her her jean jacket. Did Miss Wells complain about the ending too.
I never saw the ending of BTTF1 as saying that money buys happiness but that George McFly had taken control of his life in a way he never did in the original timeline and financial success was just a side effect of that
Same he was just being one of those Hollywood hypocrites that pretend to hate wealth and pretend money is evil. Ive heard actors say money is the root of all evil and meanwhile they have enough money to last 50 lifetimes.
In the mid-90s I interviewed Crispin Glover for a radio show. Before we spoke, his publicist sent us a document stating that we could ask him about anything we wanted, EXCEPT Back to the Future.
@@stickman-1 : A good point. It was a LOOONG time ago, but I feel like the lawsuit had ended and it had more to do with non-disclosure agreements because they settled out of court. But I could be wrong. I should say as well that Glover was a good interview and generous with his time, but had no idea what to say when I told him that "Little Noises" is maybe the best thing he's done. He just sort of laughed it off.
In all honesty, they got away with having him in the movie without paying him. I say this, bc I didn't know they recasted his role until just now. I went decades thinking the actor was in the whole trilogy. No joke.
There was an interview Crispin Glover where he mentioned this is why he has never made any reunion appearances to this day. Because people believed he was in the second and third films. He did not want to be associated with the two sequels. ua-cam.com/video/j-gM7hbHZNs/v-deo.html

I'm not sure what other payment was provided to Paul's brother for his work
As for other cases where a dead star was featured in a commercial or something else, using CGI or Photoshop etc., yes, that could only be done with the permission of the estate of that star, and for a fee.
Same thing when they brough back to live Walter Disney...
I was aware about Jenny's recasting, but I was wholly unaware they recast George!
All things considered, they really pulled it off!
The sequels could have been great with Glover
so damn agree!!!
They were great without him.
Agreed!
You right ❗
If that bit about being set in the 60s was true, i think we were better with the plots to write around him.
The upside down thing is very clever as we as a species find it hard to recognise people upside down
That and he was heavily made up. Just watched part 2 the other day and never realized he was missing from the movie.
Also that scene happened do quickly you really couldn’t see the difference.
Great information. Thx for the detail.
Now I need to rewatch these movies now
Glover did not 'win' the case as such, as the matter was 'settled out of court' for $760,000 - the studio knew it was losing and didn't want bad media to compound their loses!!!
@@GisherJohn24 Totally - they should have just paid the man - instead of doing identity theft ... what assholes.

so, this series of movies are up there with my favorites of all time. born in 82, i grew up on these. i never even noticed
How does this not have millions of views?
I watched this because of a Tarkin short I saw earlier that briefly mentioned the George situation at the end. Now this video shows Tarkin at the end. The circle is now complete
Crispin Glover didn't like the message that money can buy happiness. But he wanted to get paid as much as the lead actor in the movie.
When this came out I was a kid, and I never thought it was money that created the 'rewards'. I always thought it was because there was character growth, even at that age, even though I would have struggled to explain it. So Glover missed out.
Yeah I agree. I thought it was about standing up for yourself.
That's it.
My favourite Crispin Glover scene is his interview with Dave Letterman
All his interviews were crazy

@@Lanwarder "I'm strong, I can arm wrestle....I can kick!"

This is why I never bothered with 2&3. No Crispen, no McFly
They should had just recast Glover with a actor that was about his height and filmed it. The studio should had told him “if you don’t like the pay, we will find a actor that does. He wouldn’t have too look like a twin just a actor to fill the role.
George McFly was my favourite character in that movie.
George Mcfly is one of the most iconic movie characters ever they should have paid him to do all 3
As strange as it may sound they could have just recast George McFly.
Wow! They did a great job because I never even realized George was recast until now.
Fun fact - The D Jones manure truck that Biff hit was Dennis Jones, one of the crew members.
WOW, I never realized that he was recast later on, but I was wondered why they didn´t showed his face from front, not even once, just upside down with lots of prosthetics, but it was obvious for me that they made it purposefully. At least now i know why. Thanks.
Glover wanted more money, not happy with the ending 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
- You raise some interesting questions. What if Hollywood simply chooses a lookalike actor? Can original actors sue for that?
Changing the actress playing McFly's girlfriend is worse, the time continuum went wrong!
She had a minor role.
@@gregr3720 doesn't matter it was still weird, better off writing her out then. Not that minor anyway in part 2.
Love the fact he sued them and won 💪
I didn't like the ending either. I liked that the family was stable and happy but them being rich and the huge truck for Marty seemed unnecessary. Plus them rubbing their happiness in Biffs face seemed a big cruel.
The guy went in time and saved his whole family how does he not deserve a truck?
He thought they couldn`t make the sequel with out him.
Wait, Glover says he didn't like the ending because money doesn't buy happiness but then demanded more money for his role?
I was today years old..... ^^ Nice video dude
This lawsuit, with the improvements in digital graphics and faceswap apps will need to be revisised. And hopefully protect people when thier faces are used in videos they never really appeared in
I can't believe I hadn't ever noticed this before!
I side with Crispin on this on all fronts.
@@doorman5966 Yes but you mentioned Gale was blacklisted . Thats the only aspect I hadn't heard. I do know he wasnt working in the industry though.
Happyness itself can't be bought, but when you have money you can buy things that make you happy. Now there are 3 things that can't be bought, and that is a good health, real love and real friends, but everything else is for sale alright!
Glover saw "money buys happiness".
What I saw: "Having the courage to fight for what you love gives other people permission to do the same."
Im reading through the comments and the anti-american/anti-capitalist sentiments are overwhelming. Sounds like alot of people out there still need to stand up to Biff...
Would love to watch, but I can’t. Sound/voice is muffled and not clear so I’m fighting to listen even with an external speaker on iPad Pro. Need better audio.
My favorite movie since birth and I never knew this. I bought it! I was wrong. This changes everything 😆
Glover play a character in Hot Tub Time Machine. The ending of that movie is more in line with what he thought BTTF1 was.
I want the 1980s back.
Paul Walker did not die. He is the Maze Runner with dark hair, a new upper lip and nose job and contacts, and notice how they film him a lot from the rear and above to hide his height.
I never knew this, nor suspected it. I just thought it was a poor attempt of making an actor look “older”. This makes much more sense.
What the actual fk... BTTF is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I never knew this. My mind is blown.
I agree with Glover's dislike of the ending
I didn't have a clue, they done a great job!
But if he clearly said "Hell no", then it should never be done.
interesting, as a german spectator I never even knew it wasn't glover in 2 and 3
Glover should have bargained for as much as possible, and taken the role in the sequel. If he doesn’t like an ending, then he can produce his own movie. Too many opinions in Hollywood, not enough work ethic.
I always felt he looked a little different in certain scenes even with the time travel makeup
This has blown my mind… I work at an 80s themed arcade and we regularly play the trilogy, I still didn’t know until this video that the first dad wasn’t in the sequels
I knew they recast Jennifer just never realized the dad was too
All the things you acted like should have been obvious but from the comments most people didn’t realize it either
He was the whole movie
Damn I didn’t know he wasn’t in the second movie…I just now found out. I was today years old when I found out lol
This would be like having someone else put on a Robert Duvall mask to bring the Tom Hagen character back for Godfather 3.
When Doc comes back with the time machine they should have had Glover look out the window and say "im too old for this shit"
Can't say that I have seen the actor, or heard his name talked about much since this movie but the director sure has gone on to huge fame and bigger projects.
At the end of the movie Marty's mom says look your first Novel so he is just getting started with his writing this is why they are still in the middle class house.
I seen a video years back of Crispen talking about this. I’m so glad I never seen BttF2and3.
I never understood why they bothered.
Marty's girlfriend was cast to a different actress in 2 from 1.
They show horn Elizabeth Shue in there replacing Claudia Wells and just gave her her jean jacket.
Did Miss Wells complain about the ending too.
Every time I see crispen I keep thinking of Willy wonka
he would have been a good WW
Wow I learned something new every day!
I never saw the ending of BTTF1 as saying that money buys happiness but that George McFly had taken control of his life in a way he never did in the original timeline and financial success was just a side effect of that
Exactly.
Me too.
It’s just an excuse Glover used to save face when he didn’t get a raise
Same he was just being one of those Hollywood hypocrites that pretend to hate wealth and pretend money is evil. Ive heard actors say money is the root of all evil and meanwhile they have enough money to last 50 lifetimes.
The writers may have had fun with that premise: money didn't buy Biff happiness.
In the mid-90s I interviewed Crispin Glover for a radio show. Before we spoke, his publicist sent us a document stating that we could ask him about anything we wanted, EXCEPT Back to the Future.
That could have been because he was in litigation at the time.
