Outstanding shelter! This reminds me of a tent I lived in for three weeks way back in the early 1980's. It was not a double lean-to. It was a triple lean-to. Made by pitching three surplus shelter-halves in a U pattern, with a poncho attached at each corner (tent pole) for the roof which was held up by a long stick up through the poncho hood. Pitched it over a stump which made a fine table. Enough room for two cots, and with a fire just outside the open end, it was very comfortable.
Those Grabber 5x7 tarps are so useful. I always take one on day hikes or backpack trips, but never considered making a shelter with two of them. Now you've got me thinking... might try two of them on an overnighter and see how it goes. Great demo, thanks!

I still have 2 issued Army Casualty Blankets that are in somewhat pristine condition. The Grabber is basically the exact same thing, and the measurements are pretty much as close as you would get. I have the grabber as well. I use mine mostly as a ground sheet inside a larger 10x10 tarp. You put these to great use, Corporal! Thanks for showing us.

Ha. I watched one of your old videos and now more of them are popping up in my recommended. Good to watch some of the simple stuff. You can also loop the ridge line itself through any or all grommets and use a toggle for no knot use. Then tighten the truckers hitch when it's in place.
This really was outstanding! 👍👍👍 You have a lot of great videos, but I think this was one of your best and has the potential to really save lives if people carry these blankets and practice with them. I especially liked the way you set up the A-Frame with the overlapping shingle. I have over-complicated this step before and appreciate the simplicity of your method. Thanks very much for the video and the thinking that went into it. I might prefer to use the extra tarp as a ground cloth that I could wrap around myself for warmth, but I understand using it as an extra fly for the A frame tent, too. It's a very nice and handy construction.

Grabber blankets are one of the best survival items you can have. I keep 2 in all of my kits. You can easily add grommets. In warmer weather you can use 2 ridge lines on opposite sides of your 2 trees, 1 slightly higher than the other and attach the blankets to the far ridge line so 1 overlaps the other to leave a vent at the top
Outstanding, Shawn! The two blanket pup tent is incredible. I have an orange one that I use as a lean-to so I'll order another one, maybe two (one to use as a groundsheet). Due to claustrophobia I either hammock camp or ground camp with a tarp usually with the orange blanket for its light weight. Another quality video, sir! Semper Fi.
These tarps and your suggested uses look like a good idea. Especially, one could pre-tie the Prussik loops and Bowlines, then have them rolled up in the tarp with some stakes. Also roll up a Tyvek ground cloth and an SOL bag and you are---Dare I say it? Yes, I dare say: Good to go. Here's one: Go to a store that makes and sells arrows. Get some of the aluminum or carbon-fiber arrow-shaft cutoffs. (They're about two to three inches long, super light, extremely strong.) Tie one near each grommet, or anywhere you may need a toggle. Then you will have toggles when and where you need them with no looking for them if it's raining, windy, or the ground is snow-covered. Easier to get them out if it rains and freezes. I really like the two-tarp idea. Good one! Good video. Smooth, clean, clear, good product identification, easy to understand, right to the point, sensible, practical.

Very well demonstrated! I like to use a plow point with 5'x7' and use a metal stake in the forks of a small tree, then lay some 5 to 10lb stone on the corners. Fastest set up for unexpected rain... I use it a lot when creek fishing. Semper Fidelis!

Great video ! For my Day Pack with "The Ten Essentials" by the Seattle Mountaineers I use a Ripstop Nylon Poncho with Grommets and Double Sided Snaps ! Also have four MSR Aluminium "T" Stakes and some Paracord. The only con the label on the Poncho says "Made in China"... A Day Pack is needed for any and all short Day Hikes ! All your videos are awesome Corporal. In my packs for hunting I took a 6x8 tarp, camo from Harbor Freight or somewhere, and used a 3M spray adhesive to glue a mylar blanket to one side. Might have cost me $10 minus the glue. Takes a bit to lose the glue smell but does not really add any bulk to the tarps. I also have a spare blanket for just in case. Kinda gives me your 2 is 1, 1 is none. I also bought some of the plastic alligator type tarp clamps and put a couple in my packs just in case the grommets on the tarps tear out in a high wind storm or to use as extra stay put lines. Could use the rock in the corner wrapped by cord also but the couple of ounces the clamps add I can bare. Just a thought and maybe an option for some of your viewers. Keep making the videos and include your mini-me as much as possible. Fun watchin the 2 of ya.

I've experimented with the double tarp a-frame with a rain flap and it will work IF you're aware of the wind direction. If the wind is blowing against the rain flap it will blow rain right into the center of your shelter. Best bet is to carry a larger tarp to begin with in my own experience. You seem to have your knots down pretty well? Are you a member of the IGKT? It's a worthwhile organization with numerous benefits. I've been a member for over a decade and the community is amazing. Outstanding! I and my Pathfinder Basic class partner slept in the A-frame configuration using 2 Grabber blankets in an all night rain, and stayed dry. I was worried, as I'm 6' tall, but it was all good. I sometimes wish they offered a 6x8 version. Then again, it's a survival shelter, not a camping tent.
I just got back yesterday from 4 days of day-hiking in the mountains and desert around Tucson, Arizona and Saguaro National Park. I carried my 10C kit (I added the One-handed Trekker knife, and a whistle) and my base pack weight for the 10 C kit was only 3.5 pounds. My 10 C kit, a trauma medical kit, snacks and my two quarts of water all fit in my little REI Flash18 backpack with room to spare. I felt a lot better knowing I was prepared for an emergency. Lots of rocks around there to twist an ankle on, and turn a day hike into a survival situation. The 10 C kit turns that survival situation into, as Dave Canterbury calls it, "inconvenient camping". Thanks for all you do for us!
IMHO: I think that it might be better to add many extra "grommet" attachment points, along each side of any tarps that you will use. More is better, since some might fail, in high winds, or over time. BTW: AWESOME Video!!! Great, useful advice! I like your "quick release method , using a stout stick thru a loop! Easy, and quick!
