In Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria & a few other countries don't charge prisoners for escaping as long as they don't break any other laws. The claim is that it is human nature to want to escape, which is true.
That's weird. Just because it is true doesn't make it right. Do they hold that stance for all prisoners?? Would they feel that way if I mass murderer escaped??
My uncle escaped from San Quentin in 1986. He wasn’t arrested for, I believe, 7 years. He was ultimately shot and killed in 1994 by a prison guard. I was just a kid at the time, but I believe his killing had a lot to do with his escape. Love your content, Jes!
Mark Adams? (I googled) but that’s a crazy story. But for it to start at 16 and not get punished until he was 22 seems so wrong. Maybe I’m wrong but it just seemed more sad than if you hear of an adult doing the same thing. I guess it had to do with the police ties. Sad to hear.
Crazy story! A guy in Greeneville, TN recently escaped from jail...stole a worker's uniform grabbed a box & walked right out the front door. They caught him in a barn after he stole a car & crashed it. CRAZIER still is that this guy had originally been arrested not long before that for shooting at police & fleeing the scene on foot. As I'm driving down the road he comes out of the trees on the side of the road & walks RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY CAR! I swerve around him, stop & look behind me to make sure he's okay (at the time not knowing he was on the run or who he was), he starts walking toward the rear of my vehicle & I sped away. Found out a few hours later he was caught & what he had done! I may have literally dodged a bullet!

In the US escaping from prison is a crime? :O In Austria and Germany the act of escaping from prison is not illegal, but often people escaping from prison commit other crimes to accomplish the escape like damaging property or holding officers hostage. That's what they get charged for then.
Yeah, I'm in the US, and I just learned that in Norway (which has some of the most humane prisons in the world) you aren't punished for escaping because the need to escape confinement is a basic part of human nature. Free US citizens don't even have healthcare, so it makes sense that the prisons are like torture chambers. If we want to get people to support prison reform, we're going to have to improve the conditions of free citizens as well.

Thank you for the interesting video. As far as I know, in my country, Austria 🇦🇹, you will not get another charge if you escape prison. It does, however, deteriorate your chances of being released earlier due to good conduct (which happens quite a lot)
"I feel like fresh air is nescessry for mental health of inmates" broke my heart cause like YES?? Its so necessery for everyone and that its treated like a luxary is just ridiculous and awfful
First 8 years of my life was on the run because my dad escaped prison back in the 60s. I've lived in 14 states. It took til sophomore year in high school before I spent an entire school year in one school. There's collateral damage to family members.
🦝🦝🦝 Hey Jess!!! You are such an inspiration to me, and you and your videos have made me want to fight for prison reform! I donate wherever I can, and help out wherever I can! Love you! I hope you and your family are healthy and happy! 🖤🖤🖤
Something that I find interesting is that the escape itself will lead to extra charges If I remember correctly, here in Germany the escape itself isn't going to lead to extra charges for the escapee, since the desire for freedom isn't considered something to be punished They're still gonna chase you of course and you're probably gonna get caught but you won't be punished for escaping Of course, if you broke other laws during your escape, like steal a car or hurt someone, that's going to be added to you charges
One time while I was in jail in California a woman had just rolled in and all of a sudden she started profusely hemorrhaging blood. She couldn’t really talk and it seemed like she could barely keep from passing out so we couldn’t really tell why it was happening but it seemed like a really bad/dangerous miscarriage or some kind of internal bleeding problem or something. It was absolutely traumatizing and it wasn’t even that guards weren’t doing walkthroughs or checking on the unit, because they had done multiple walkthroughs and all of us would be freaking out and telling the deputies what was happening (even though they could see it happening either way) and they literally just pretended like they couldn’t hear us or see her at all. The woman wasn’t taken out to medical FOR HOURS until she was literally out cold and there was a pool of blood on the floor. Then, once they took her, we asked them if we could use the cleaning supplies to clean up because this was literally a biohazard situation and they refused to give us anything because we are only supposed to get the cleaning stuff in the morning. We were literally using wet and dry pads to wipe up this person’s blood and couldn’t actually sanitize or clean it how appropriately until the next morning.
Fun fact, ALL prisons and most county/city jails have a sally port. It's literally just a secure, controlled entry way into an enclosure, eg a fortification or prison.
Sebastian County is awful! It needs revamped from the ground up. A few months before this they had several inmates overdose on fentanyl. Watching your video, it is definitely a safety issue, nothing has changed. Medical attention is never taken seriously, if you do get answered after how ever many hours they then charge you a minimum of $50 for it. I've heard more than a couple of people that someone had a medical emergency and actually had obviously passed, however they were not pronounced dead until they had been transported to a hospital so that it wouldn't be reported as a death at the facility. Crawford county got a huge nice new jail, it's being ran just as awful as the old jail was. Sebastian county used to be very notorious for "accidentally" releasing the wrong inmates A LOT! You are freaking awesome! Prison/Jail reform needs to happen across the board, from small time city jails to FBOP. What you are doing to help bring attention to these issues is so awesome. Keep up the good work!
🦝🦝🦝 Jess, good video. I hate the fact that females are treated differently than the males. Luckily I work for a good department that is pushing to change all of this. If you are ever in Maine, hit me up and I will get you a tour to see what we are about.
Many European countries recognize the urge to escape confinement to be a natural human survival instinct and the escapee is not charged for that specifically if they didn't commit any additional crimes. Exceptions in cases of, eg, violent offenders obv.
Jessica, you need to stop apologising for complaining. The American prison system is disgusting and is NOT ok. As someone from the UK it boggles my mind that they can treat people this way, and our system still isn’t that good compared to Norway, and it’s just getting worse. It’s ok to say they treated you bad. People in jail are presumed innocent for the most part, but even those who are guilty are still human!!!
For context, I live in Manitoba Canada, and here jail and prison are the same thing, remand is what we call jail. In my town there is a juvenile prison in town, right beside the hospital and 1 of the Nursing homes. It's hard to explain without showing you a map. Anyways I used to work at the nursing home as a CNA, one evening shift we got a call from the RCMP telling us "No smoke breaks, we had 3 inmates escape, stay inside until we call you unless it is an emergency" so we stayed inside with all the doors locked. About an hour later I pick up the phone "[Nursing Home] Nursing desk" and the cop on the other line said "Hi this is Constable [Name]" and my first instinct as a CNA was to say "Do you need me to get a nurse?" and she said "No, it's okay. Just wanted to let you know you guys can have your smokes now, we caught the last escapee" I don't smoke, but I went and told everyone they could now smoke and I was the hero LOL
You know in some european countries you can't be charged with escape because the law respects each individuals need for freedom. So if you hurt no one and don't break anything you lose priviliges but that's it. Those countries generally work more with priviliges than with punishments because someone realized that people are more likely to cooperate if you reward them instead of punishing them.
I read this about 30 years ago - it happened somewhere up in New England; I think. Some geniuses broke out of the county clink. One criminal mastermind who wasn't in the original plan followed them out. Brainiac was three days away from being released from a 90-day stint. But the intellectual superstar just had to run with the others. Whatever state it was had a mandatory ten years in the state pen for escape. So, he went away for another ten years. Now that's funny!
Omg! I'm a former addict and have been in a few jails im my time and everything you said is exactly and I mean exactly what happens! I've found plastic in my food I've found cockroaches personally in my food and you're right if one inmate does something wrong every inmate is punished for it. These jails are disgusti6ng and I don't know how they get away with it!? Thanks for all of you videos. It brings back memories and great reminders to stay clean cuz it will end in jails institutions or death! Oh my lol. From pittsburgh!
Hey! So uh, this probably isn’t a very good place to put this but UA-cam is the first place I thought to check. I have a social change project for my English class and the proposal I chose was for prison reform. I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about your experience and maybe even get a short story to present in the awareness website I’m working on. Not too sure if you will read this but if you have the spare time i would be very grateful. Keep up the amazing work and I love your videos!
My ex just transferred to a state facility but while he was here in county, was kept in this makeshift trailer (they call it a trailer) while a new jail is being built. Staff shortages are no secret, the sheriff whines about it constantly during press releases. But somehow there still haven't been any escapes. Which tells me either a) all of these inmates, around 1K at any given time, have more common sense. Or b) even with a lack of guards, they're utilizing them as best they can. My money's on B. Work smarter, not harder.
I lived near the Philadelphia prison and I woke up one day to my house surrounded by swat and police and helicopters.. a inmate escaped and was hiding out in my shed. Worst shed to pick... it was like a sun room shed... half the walls and ceiling was glass. . .

A little bit Alexis". Lol
Hey Jess, I used to work at a county prison, I want your thoughts. What do you think of their chances of getting a beating once they hit GP again? Unless they transfer them, they are so screwed once they are out of the hole.
Hello from malaysia...big fans of you and larry...sometimes i listen to you guys when i take a long drive...because your guys experience it's something else... different then us here
In Florence County Colorado there's a few prisons including the supermax prison but afew years ago some dudes escaped from a lawer level facility they were caught just walking through town in their uniforms
Actually, Jess, I never thought about escaping. My first time was for a year in jail, and I also did a 45 day stint, and the last time was for six months.
One thing I've learnt, repeatedly the hard way, is you gotta laugh or you'll go insane. Guys, and particularly military guys, have a particularly dark sense of humour, that can get our of hand, but is mostly just a coping mechanism. I've never been in the military, I know from personal experience of severe mental problems I've gone threw that it helps a lot. Think of Florida man stories, like the guy last week that hopped one of two tiger pen perimeter fences to pet a tiger...it went exactly as well as you can imagine...I don't want that to happen to anyone, but it's still a funny story. A guy from my school, around 15-20 years ago, when I was a teenager, was walking threw the countryside with his friends. Presumably on a non school day, and took a pee, as you do when you're in the middle of nowhere, far from toilets. Turns out he peed on an electric fence, and hence electrocuted himself threw his peepee... which is funnier then when one of the guys broke open a disposable camera (Yes, a long time ago), and we took turns daring each other to touch a short circuit we found...because funny...with our fingers that is...because we weren't that bad, but still dumb. Again, because it's funny to get electrocuted as a teenager for no other reason then a dare.

So horrible and it’s terrifying not just for the person going through it but everyone around them.
The only reason I was finally given help was due to a nurse finding my condition on her meds run… she was shook and immediately started yelling at the cop for leaving me in the conditions they were leaving me in.
ALLLL BAD
You are a hero!!! Thanks for your beautiful content!!!
Thank you for the interesting video. As far as I know, in my country, Austria 🇦🇹, you will not get another charge if you escape prison. It does, however, deteriorate your chances of being released earlier due to good conduct (which happens quite a lot)
I saw an escape headline that said "prisoners escape facility using *PEANUT BUTTER* !" Like, wtf..... how much peanut butter did they use? LOL
🦝🦝🦝 Happy New Year!!! I really enjoy your channel.
I was already on your page watching you when I got this notif 😝Love you

🦝🦝🦝 thank you for sharing this video Jess! Praying for you and your family during this pandemic ♥️
Good lord omg
🦝 happy new year, Jess!!
inmate ingenuity, man!
Love your videos Jessica!🦝
🦝🦝🦝 Hey Jess!!! You are such an inspiration to me, and you and your videos have made me want to fight for prison reform! I donate wherever I can, and help out wherever I can! Love you! I hope you and your family are healthy and happy! 🖤🖤🖤

Thank you for sharing yet another interesting story👍🏼😊✌🏼!
🐿 couldn't fine a racoon so here's a squirrel!
🤣🤣
🦝🦝loved the video! But that's crazy how no one ever bothered to even check up in the ceiling after the iron worker left!! 🤔
Something that I find interesting is that the escape itself will lead to extra charges
If I remember correctly, here in Germany the escape itself isn't going to lead to extra charges for the escapee, since the desire for freedom isn't considered something to be punished
They're still gonna chase you of course and you're probably gonna get caught but you won't be punished for escaping
Of course, if you broke other laws during your escape, like steal a car or hurt someone, that's going to be added to you charges
🦝 Another great video!
🦝🦝 🖤 Another amazing video! Thx Jess! Sending love & positive vibes to everyone!!
🦝🦝 lol great video!
Fun fact, ALL prisons and most county/city jails have a sally port. It's literally just a secure, controlled entry way into an enclosure, eg a fortification or prison.
Love you Jess!! 🦝🦝
Thank you for posting about these issues!!!!! You’re the best to do it
Raccoons!
🥰🦝🦝🦝🦝🦝🦝 I love your video. Especially the ending.
Great video as always 🦝🦝🦝🦝🦝🦝
🦝🦝🦝Happy new year Jess!! 🖤🖤🖤
🦝🦝🦝
"EW DAVID!" yessss... love your shirt! 😍🥰
🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧 cant find a raccoon sooo heres some pengews!!! 🤪🤪🤪 love your raccoon tattoo though!! So adorable!!!!
They can give you an escape charge if they see you trying to leave the pod
What… lol dang
Jessica, you need to stop apologising for complaining. The American prison system is disgusting and is NOT ok. As someone from the UK it boggles my mind that they can treat people this way, and our system still isn’t that good compared to Norway, and it’s just getting worse.
It’s ok to say they treated you bad. People in jail are presumed innocent for the most part, but even those who are guilty are still human!!!
I’ve never been in jail/prison, but I’ve joked about escaping from a psychiatric hospital I was at, and they didn’t take it well.
Just wanted to let you know you guys can have your smokes now, we caught the last escapee"
I don't smoke, but I went and told everyone they could now smoke and I was the hero LOL
Love you girl!! 🖤🖤🖤🖤
💚💚💚💚
🦝
Shawshank is a cool prison escape film 😎
Worst shed to pick... it was like a sun room shed... half the walls and ceiling was glass. . .
Jess.... I frickin looovveee your shirt. I have one too with different font. I love me some Schitts Creek and David is my fave character. I love his while story. Alexis is so funny too. "I'm a Lamborghini...I'm a Hollywood star... I'm a little bit tipsy when I drive my car....Im expensive sushi...I'm a cute huge yacht...I'm a little bit single even when I'm not. Lalalalalalala. A little bit Alexis". Lol
ahhh I love that you're a Schitt's Creek fan!!
Hey Jess, I used to work at a county prison, I want your thoughts. What do you think of their chances of getting a beating once they hit GP again? Unless they transfer them, they are so screwed once they are out of the hole.
"The help of these tools"
Not sure if they're talking about the jail cops or the tools used to escape... 😂
Here for the tea ☕️ happy Friday b😈
👀😎
Love you Jess!
💚💚
Wow!! 😊👍 keep up your amazing work and you’d be an awesome advocate for prison reform because you’ve been there you know what you’re talking about firsthand knowledge and you’re very intelligent I don’t know if that’s something you think of doing but I think you’d be an excellent candidate for that and congratulations on how well your life has turned out you turned a bad situation into something amazing and you have every right to be incredibly proud of yourself you’ve earned it😊
