Good advice. I bought a Lowe HF225 hf receiver complete with original pwr supply and all the accessories in perfect working condition for £20, off a local who thought he was getting a bargain, little did he know how much it was worth, great radio, so there are bargains out there if you're lucky.
I have purchased some very good used radios and I've purchased a few that were lemons you have to be really careful The best thing is to check them out before you purchase them if you can thanks for the video mad radio DXR
Lift up one side of L305 and test the difference it makes on the 2001D/2010 I’ve had to replace the capacitors in my SW1, SW55 and repair my 7600D and 7600DS. Honestly not worth buying these unless you can fix them or they have been fixed already. The Qodosen DX-286 is a better buy in light of these problems.
The main thing about this radio is its common problem with transistor and not everyone knows how to test it. Even if it turns on sometimes you couldn't know if its on its best performance. In general - if you don't have knowledge how to repair stuff better avoid complex receivers.
@@mutezoneHave a go honestly the basic repairs like the Q303 transistor are easy to get to and require just some basic soldering skills. It just needs the back cover taking off and it’s right there on the antenna board.
Great advice on buying.. i recently bought a broken radio from gumtree and was very disappointed.. and out of pocket
Sorry to hear. Its too much of a gamble for me because the radios are too old now.
Some old radios are very difficult to disassemble to reach some components which need be replaced. And some radios are difficult to reassemble again.
Not worth the stress, I might as well buy new & thats it.
the other issue is unless you can fix the radio yourself, its very hard to find anyone either capable or willing to repair old electronics
This is why I stay away now from old radios. Too much hassle finding somebody that does repairs.
Also watch out for the astronomically high prices some people are asking. I’ve seen £820 being asked for a tecsun s2000 and£920 for a Sony s 55!!!!
They are opportunists & will try to con unknowing people with very high prices. I have seen it with other items away from radios.
I used to rebuild Heathkit radios and accessories for my local ham club. Being the local expert was a double edge sword, but rewarding.
Sometimes it is best not to know than to know.

Most likely this old Sony will need some electrolytics changed in the coming years.
It depends if vintage receivers were at their prime back in the day and the story behind it. Thanks John 73!
Absolutely, but at any time it can stop working even if you have looked after it properly. It is the nature of electronics. 73.
I haven’t had much luck buying used receivers. Last one I bought is a used Grundig and the hf reception is non existent.
That is the problem with buying old receivers, it can be a lottery.
My "new" Grundig Satellit 400 International works fine.
@@josesebastian5986 You should have bought a lottery ticket on the same day you bought that radio ;)

At that price it is no risk, it would be if you are going into three figures.

You're welcome Jim. That is why I stopped buying old radios, it became a game of chance if it was working or not. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the information. And the Qodosen will be a better buy than an old radio that is likely to break down soon.

Your last sentence, this is why I say be careful about buying old radios. It is difficult finding someone that can repair them, at least for me.
