I also had an MPC ONE and really enjoyed it but i wanted something really portable and now i use the iphone and iPad! I've returned the MPC but i still think it's an amazing machine! One of the best in the class! Cheers!
All your vid's are hugely entertaining, inspirational and putting-my-feet-back-on-the-ground Michael, again, such a fresh breath in the Synth-vid-tube-world! Keep 'em coming!
could use an arduino too for some of the buttons, cram components from a small, cheap usb interface into it (behringer UM2 maybe?) and could salvage as many buttons as you can and of course the pads from an old MPD. hardest part would probably be writing the software to interpret all the arduino controls to in-software commands and creating the enclosure
Just found your channel about a month ago, when I seen the "OP1 for free" video. I love your take on all the hardware gear, your videos are really informative. They have all given me a good laugh too! Thanks for introducing me to the free tape stop effect plugin, it works great. Also, I love the few jams of yours Ive seen on your Ipad. Keep it up, and thanks again!
Nice one Michael - learning something new everytime on your channel, for instance had no idea the standalone MPCs used a linux-based firmware! BTW in case people are looking for a small cheap USB class compliant audio interface, I've been quite happy with the Behringer UC-202, less than half the price of the Presonus and about half the size when going on the back of your macbook
I took the MPC Live 2 to the park, first off its impossible to menu dive with the screen when the sun is shining, in the shade under a tree i could kind of see it with some pollen stuck to the screen, its very heavy like 4 laptops on your lap, tried to be out of visibility for people addicted to drugs to rob me, made a beat with the speaker on then wrapped up the mpc with a towel and put it in my backpack, very heavy, and with all the internal components worried about it breaking. Haven't done it since. Pad trigger issue as well.
"If you don't already have one" love you for that man. Could you do more videos on creating templates to work from? I can find working on a computer overwhelming when it comes to music production. It's too easy to get stuck tweaking and getting stuck in the software when you would like to be jamming instead!
I just installed Beats and some factory packs that came with midi drum pad I bought (Akai MPC218) but I haven't used it yet, but I'm pretty excited to give it a go now.
My biggest gripe with TE )besides their prices) is they have the developer of LSDJ on their team, but refuse to make a PO that has the full tracker capability of it.
how can you record stereo with the presonus go? looking for the smallest formfactor to record a stereo line signal from my portable boxes (ep133 for example)
please if you have the money check out the gpd 3 pocket 8inch laptop with touchscreen for music production and make a video about it ...it could be an answer to our dream of an ultra portable all in one beat machine...maybe the size is already to small for music production, that's what i really want to know
@@valley_robot nice, thx for the info ....till now i just read, no it's to small too work comfortable on music ....i did a quick research and i guess the gpd pocket 2 has no touchscreen...i wonder how the touchscreen function works out with mpc beats and daws
@@snubdawg1386 the GPD pocket 2 has a touch screen , I have one , it also has pretty much zero latency when using a maschine controller with it or a midi keyboard
Your channel weirdly reminds me of Chinese auntie/uncles, who can't help but ranting for young kids buying things too expensive and not practical - and they're right every time! Keep on the education for the community! lol
I got a Korg padKontrol used for $60, but I notice people around here asking $80 now. I chose that because it's plug and play with my Kronos... but you can use it with a general purpose computer too (Kronos runs Linux on Intel Atom board). Very nice pads, IMO. People seem to sell the less "desirable" MPC products, or APC products, that still have the "desirable" pads, for pretty cheap. Or you could buy a really really cheap generic pad controller, but I couldn't vouch for the quality.
Are you on PC or Mac? For PC MPC Beats can only read VST2, no VST3 support. For Mac you can use AU, but make sure in Preference you turned on allow AU.
I tried to find that magnet cable and all I could find was “snap link”. The reviews were horrible! would you suggest them and if so what brand? Great vid yet again!
Man, I've been looking for some validation that the MPC workflow is annoying as hell. I just do not flow with it. Picked up the SP404 and was making beats and loops in 10 minutes. I like Garage Band and all that it gives you for sure but my go to 'free' DAW is Reaper. I don't know if you've mentioned it before but I think you might want to have a look. Thank you as always for these useful ideas.
Entertaining and thought-provoking, though I would guess most people interested in the MPC boxes are more into playing samples than guitars, so I would throw in a NanoPad and still come in $950 or so under budget...
For an even smaller audio interface, I found the Behringer Line2usb, which is a simple stereo cable to usb converter. But you didn't show us what's your take on replacing the midi interface that comes with the MPC ?
It’s not cheap, but the RK-006 is probably the best midi interface for velcro’ing to the back of a laptop. It’s extremely tiny and has 10 midi outs and 2 midi ins + configurable analog clock. I’m lucky to already own one since I needed more midi outs for the MPC I used to own. For an audio/midi interface in one device, one could consider IK Multimedia iRig series, most of which also have midi i/o in their small form factor.
Just get one of those USB to MIDI cables. Unless you really have an issue with latency. In that case you will need something like a ERM multiclock. But if it needs to be portable, you won’t have external synths anyway
Nice one! :) By the way ESI UGM192 is also great miniature portable interface and you can even connect it to mobile phone (Android as well) and use it with Cubasis or something like that.
Garage Band or Cubasis on an iPad are great. I want to get a Yamaha MX49 v2. It has great Motif sounds, a built-in audio/MIDI interface, and can connect to an iPad with a single USB cable for bidirectional audio/MIDI. You can just pretend the iPad is the excellent display for the MX49.
I tried an m1 with Mpc beats and there is some lag and it’s finicky with logic and GarageBand. This is great info if you need to save money but Mpc live is def worth the “used” price in my opinion. But that is just me. I still love your take and humor. Good job!!!!
I wish I knew more about the mpc one {and 2 live's} Operating system but if anything its probably not linux most big companys don't like the gpl license {perpetual license need to publish changes under same license} because they love keeping things proprietary they would probably use a freebsd based os like what the playstation 3 and 4 uses the license is similar to mit {public domain but give credit}
Awesome series man... can you check out the new 'Polyend Play' and maybe provide us some alternatives, I have serious GAS for that thing and its €699 eeek!
my mpc live crashes at least once every time I use it. It's not like I make huge songs. I might use 5-6 tracks. Sometimes it crashes while I'm saving and all my work disappears. It's wonderful really.

Hahahahha, I am one minite into the video and I got more that it was advertised. Actually anything but. Im guessing the rest is content but you killed ot with the introduction. Gonna watch it couple more times. PS: hide the new mpc in boots box.
The only thing it wins at MPC Beats is the track limitation, which I mentioned in my video, nothing else. Beats has three more better and more powerful tuning algorithms, 3rd party plugin support for 2.10 melotron replication. I own them both, they don't share the same name doesn't mean they don't share the same function.
There is different requirements for sampling drum machines than the regular laptops or desktops, however straight up a laptop or even a iPad would be a better purchase. I like the mpc. It is a dedicated device. But considering the amount of money needed to do a hardware setup the computer becomes more enticing. I know some people are tired of looking at computer screens but come on!!!!
