They said it depends on the writer's interpretation. So as much as I would have liked them to, I have to go by canon where they haven't, except for the simulation in 5x04

These scenes are so cool, with all the sexual tension, now that coming to the end of POI, Root and Shaw are lovers and are willing to die for one another. And of course, Root did die to save Harold.
they play lighter music when there's an intimate or playful interaction between someone and it sounds beautiful like at 7:12 were Shaw's is checking Roots wounds you can hear it and it's so bittersweet.

Maybe Shaw was attracted to her right off the bat when Root threatened her with the iron, so in the safe house Root teased her and provoked her with " sex no strings attached." So Shaw went with it. And after that, Root's flirting started, and the fact Shaw didn't tell her to stop ( that is until If Then Else when she starts to tell her off, but then admits to it in her actions) it means they did have sex, no fuss no muss as Shaw would say, however feelings began to develop. By the end of Honor Among Thieves they did have sex for the first time with strings attached.
