I remember my cousin had this, she was always failing the labrynth zone boss, because she always tried to hit the middle and propel herself over to the other side where their wasn't enough momentum. I watched, tried once and beat it. Edit: The chaos emerald in Scrap brain, took me ages to find that. Not as long as the last Emerald in sonic 2, searched the scrambled egg zone forever, gave up and fought Metal sonic, only for the bastard to be holding the damn emerald.
The master system was my first game consol, and for a long time i only had this game and Alex Kidd in Miracle World to play... Those were dark times...

Just recently I found out there were quite a few differences between this version and the game gear version. Both bridge zone act 2 and sky base are completely different, and sonic's sprite is actually very different as well
The way this game slightly lags in Bridge when Sonic walks across the falling bridge brought back so much nostalgia... Something I haven't seen in over 25 years!

Nice speedrun. The bosses and green hill zone can be done faster. Green Hill zone act 1 i think in 17 sec ( hard ! ) but 19 sec is doable. Timing is difficult and it depends on the version ( MS or GG ) the speed up shoe can help ! Jungle zone act 2 can be improved too but it is hard and risky ! I played this game a lot too. I was certainly able to do the first part faster. Its the second part that is most impressive to me. Ofcourse Some retries were needed to get this optimal time especially the very first level. I restarted because I only had 20 or 19 sec. Insane :)

My best is 25.57, but there's quite a few things I need to sharpen up, Bridge Zone Act 1 and Jungle Act 1 are where I'm losing a lot of time. I also need to get a better sense of routine in Sky Base Act 1. I don't exploit all of the bugs either. 25.57 is an excellent time, I'm pleased with it, but I can feel every single lost second. Such little jitters add up so much throughout the run. I'm using this video as my speedrun bible now.

I know in the bridge level second round with the sliding window it is possible to run under 2 minutes on real consoles(in my memory I reached the sign in 1.59m thats why you get higher time bonus). But I never reached this time again. And for the last level if you take the left path you can get a time under 30 seconds of course without taken the emerald. I don't know is this a glitch in the game. I have so many good memories on this game, played hours and hours.

It's all about timing! I make a jump aiming the very botton of the glass so that Sonic doesn't bounces too far back . That makes Sonic able to jump into the glass while it's still blinking. But all the jumps are made by pressing the button very lightly to make a low jump!

This is being emulated with some kind of antialiasing applied to it. Original Master System is a lot more pixelated. Still looked great though.
