Scala pump has a design flaw, which they say has been resolved. But really hasn't, you are lucky if you get 4 to 5 years out of it. I highly recommend going with another pump.
Hi Johnny, we appreciate that you may have experienced some challenges with your SCALA2 pump and I have responded separately on another comment on a separate video, however I'm not sure if you are aware but you have put this particular comment on a SCALA1 video. The Grundfos SCALA1 is a different pump from SCALA2. The internals are different and it is made in a different factory. SCALA1 was released in Australia and New Zealand in 2021 and there has not been any significant issues with this pump to date. Kind Regards, Aaron

So where should I place the towels necessary to contain the leaks? Make sure you install the isolation valved because you will need them to install a pump that doesn't leak (I am 0 for 4 on Grundfos). The best advice to installing this pump, however, is Don't Do It!

The Grundfos SCALA1 pressure booster is one of many pumps in our large domestic pressure pump range. It was released in Australia and New Zealand in August 2021 and has an extremely low fault/warranty rate in line with Grundfos' extremely high quality standards. He tried to blame it on me (running two pumps in parallel), so I was careful never to run my second pair in parallel. Still, both of my second set of pumps developed leaks, requiring me to 1/week perform my ceremonial mopping up of the leaks. My pumps are actually, the SCALA 2, but they look the same as the SCALA 1. Are you suggesting I should have gone with the SCALA 1, because the SCALA 2 is the one that leaks? I would have liked to know this before I installed the SCALA 2, and besides, I think if you had a leak problem that you fixed with the SCALA 1, that the numbers should have been reversed. On of the pumps we outfitted with new seals and this helped for a while, but then started leaking. Your quality standard are apparently missing a whole lot of data, because my local plumber suggests that your pumps simply leak. They are certainly missing my own data. Perhaps you should contact your local sales rep for my area. Your warrantee was non-existent, and I had no option to purchase all four pumps, and I can't fathom why I would purchase any more. Please provide me with a contact responsible in or around Vancouver, Canada and I will gladly accept any attempts you make (you haven't actually made any attempts to date, other than to blame it on me) to rectify the situation. Bear in mind that swapping out the SCALA2 for SCALA1s at my expense would be pretty stupid of me, since the warranty is very short (less than the leakage time).

As I may have mentioned, this particular video you have commented on is a video we made in Australia for the Grundfos SCALA1 range of pumps, (which although there may appear to be some similarities in the outer appearance of the pump, is very different to the Grundfos SCALA2 variable speed pressure booster pump.) SCALA2 and SCALA1 are made in different factories, have different inner parts and are different pumps. The SCALA2 was released in Australia in around 2016 and has had some quality issues on earlier models that have since been addressed and a new model has just been released this year (SCALA1 was released in 2021 in Australia) and we are continually improving our pumps. I understand this may feel like cold comfort to you, given your experience. Hi Xmun, Thanks for your question. SCALA1 in Australia is available in two sizes, 3-35 & 5-55, so it depends a bit on which model you are considering. Also, it will depend on how deep the below ground tank is and therefore from how far below ground the water is being pumped. You mention one tap. If there are more taps along the length of the pipe which could be opened at the same time as the furthest tap, then this will also make a difference. Additionally, the size of the pipe and the height of the highest tap will play a part in the calculation. Finally, the flow required at the tap is important to know. Is it a shower or irrigation? Because it is very difficult to size pumps without knowing all the details. @@grundfos Ive got amazing pressure once I set it up but im having an issue with the pump going into dry run mode after 4 or 5 times then it resets itself and then it works again. I found that I change performance modes . do you think changing too air handling would help with this ? as there is certainly water in the tank and the input pipe is definitely not blocked.
Hi xmun, unfortunately we didn't receive any answers to our previous questions put to you like how far down is the water source? etc. so it's still a little difficult to assist you in the best possible way. Sounds to me like the suction end is intermittently sucking air and water depending on the level of the tank. Do you have a foot valve on the suction pipe in the below ground tank? If not you should install one to stop the water in the pump draining back down the inlet pipe into the tank. Also, is the suction pipe far enough down in the below ground tank? The Air Handling Mode might help, but I would look at the inlet pipe first. If you install a foot valve, re-prime the pump by pouring water into the priming port first, before normal operation, this will ensure no air is trapped causing an airlock. Regards, Aaron
@@grundfos thanks Aron , I believe the foot valve that was installed wasn’t rated for high enough pressure and without a spring so I think it was getting stuck in a closed position hence the dry run alarm only sometimes. I’m going to purchase a new foot valve that can handle atleast 8 bar and that has a spring. Thanks so much for your help

I'm assuming from your question that you want to know if the Grundfos Go app will show the % of remaining water in your water tank i.e. the one you are using as the source the pump is pumping from? The short answer is no, it doesn't. However, the Grundfos SCALA1 domestic pressure pump does have a couple of fantastic features if you are concerned about conserving your tank water and/or possibly draining your tank dry if there is a malfunction with your pump. Through the App you can set a max run time for the pump so it's never running longer than it should and the pump also has anti-cycling protection where the pump will be stopped and an alarm activated if it repeatedly turns on and off over a short period of time (called 'cycling'), which could indicate a leaking pipe of dripping tap. As it has a dry running protection and the automatic switch to communal water as well as the features you mentioned, i'm not really concerned about it running dry or breaking down. It is more about rain water management throughout the summer where around here we have a limitation of communal water usage. So in Spring we basically keep a reserve of rainwater to be able to irrigate our garden in summer. For context, we are currently running on a 15 year old RMQ 3-45 which has become noisy due to its end of life probably. That specific pump shows us the % of remaining water despite being 15 years old. Now our installer suggests replacing it with the scala1 3-45 as unfortunately it seems very complicated and expensive to repair a RMQ or get spare parts for it. A thing about the RMQ is that every 15 seconds it creates strong vibrations or "hits" through the entire pipes in the house when on communal water. Also for the time the RMQ takes communal water in, we lose all water pressure on our taps. Simply put it seems the communal water intake of the RMQ is too brutal. I suppose a modern pump like the Scala1 will have solved that water intake problem?

Unfortunately you've come through to the marketing department for Grundfos Australia and New Zealand and the RMQ is not a product we're familiar with here. Not all Grundfos products are sold in every country. So I can't comment much on the RMQ. One thing I can tell you is that the SCALA1 is a much softer start, so you'll really notice the difference there. SCALA1 also has a timer/calendar system that you can set up and control using the app which allows you to set your irrigation on a timer. SCALA1 sounds like a great option for your needs though. Alternatively, you can also buy them here at a hardware store or maybe from a place that sells water tanks. Grundfos doesn't manufacture or sell pump covers directly. Hope that helps. Aaron
Hi Rachel V, thanks for your enquiry. You don't need a pressure tank, no. You may want to have one to minimise stop/starts and to ensure better constant pressure. Probably wouldn't need one for irrigation and watering the lawn but maybe if you were using for whole house. But then again, the SCALA1 is so quiet you won't even hear it stop/starting. I have it set up for irrigation where my tanks are higher than the field.... I have programmed my scala1 to a specific run time but the field is syphoning my tank when the pumps stops. How can I fix this
