    This question has been asked many times so i'm pinning the answer: when someone's car is on top, yes the cars underneath have to come out. We are mitigating the inconvenience of this in several ways: 1) only very rarely driven cars (or cars that don't drive at all) will be stored on top. 2) We have a proprietary app which a member can use to notify us at any point or time they would like their car. If they are more than a few blocks away at the time they let us know, we can get the car down in about 10 minutes, so no one has to wait. You can also schedule to have your car ready for you at any time. 3) We have VIP spaces where, if you are certain you don't want to be on a lift, we can have your car on the floor and ready at all times.

      @Fansthemans Zanz tilt-up walls would require additional excavation on the outside to place the wall upright, apply waterproofing and backfill with drainage material. I think with the shotcrete they can get the building closer to the property line and maximize the underground storage area. Also the tilt-walls require a huge crane to lift them into place, which they may not have had a place for at the time. And of course there's the time required for the tilt panels to sit and cure on the slab, and the slab may not have been big enough to pour all the panels at once, which would stretch out the schedule much longer.

    • @Patrick94GSR
      @Patrick94GSR 5 років тому +2

      @Fansthemans Zanz Tilt-up walls generally work best for buildings with a huge floor area to height ratio, such as large warehouses that are only 40-50 feet tall.

      But why did you go for this semi diy solution and not a much better thought out existing system? You´ll find systems that do everything automatically and much more space efficient.

    As a person that did concrete shell work for buildings its nice to see someone be so interested in the work. Some people would treat us like the scum of the Earth (especially in hospitals) Its just weird how underappreciated some jobs are. Thanks for shining a light on a hard and physically demanding job that people do everyday. And trust me most of the heavy set dudes could probably impress you with the shit they can do, just because they're big doesn't mean they're lazy.

      @Jonathan_Doe_ 5 років тому +28

      sk84life311 It’s crazy because it’s literally the most important part of the build, especially in an earthquake prone area. I think it’s because people just see the pour, assume that’s all their is to it, and don’t realise how much work goes into it.
      Also people just think of it as being bland and grey but there’s some amazing finishes that can be achieved with/on concrete.

    • @JimS870

      Daver G well, I’m one of those specialist doctors and always find it interesting to witness highly skilled ppl working, be that steelworkers or carpenters or electricians or microsurgery like I do. I love to watch other ppl being able to do work I have no skills in. This collector cars warehouse is most impressing! I’m equally as stoked by the concrete as you are! Maybe I’ll have one of my cars sent over to LA from Europe just to keep it in the best car storage in the world!

      One of our specialties will be serving folks just like you! If you live out of town and come to LA frequently for biz or pleasure, having your own sports car here is much more rewarding than having your own apartment or home. With our free LAX pickup and dropoff service and less than 2 miles from the airport, we are an ideal solution for these folks, because we also have the members lounge, which they can use as their office if they like while in town. It's more than just a garage, it's a LA home base for you and your car, and even if you get a nearby hotel (there is a Mariott 100 yards away) it's far cheaper than a crib in this part of town.

    Imagine a non-columned basement carrying a four story car park above it!! I’m equally stoked by the concrete work Matt! I’ve seen all your videos of this project and think I’ll come visit this site when I finally take our family to do L.A. and our long wanted Californian road trip. Fantastic work Matt!! Love to witness your enthusiasm and see other skilled ppl do work I have no clue how to do. Microsurgery is overrated... This is the shit!

    You should offer a live video feed of someone's car so that they can log in and check on it. This could mitigate some of the uneasiness of not having your car under your roof.

    Awesome looking project. I recognize many of the construction details in your building that were also used in the foundation of my home's rebuild after the Loma Prieta Earthquake, many years ago now. It is amazing how buildings are designed here in California, to withstand earthquakes. Mine was also designed to withstand multiple 8.0 level earthquakes. I too have one of the strongest door frames in the state of California! lol
    Good Luck with your project, it looks like you've done your homework!

    Who's your target consumer? It seems like most of the apartments and condos there have adequate parking space. Majorit of people with high end luxury cars are investing an equal or greater amount into a house with a place to keep them. I just don't see this being profitable..

    • @TheOwenMajor
      @TheOwenMajor 5 років тому +4

      I don't either. This neighbourhood is for working professionals. Sure they earn alot, but they also have higher living costs. You then have to assume they own Atleast 3 cars, one of which is a luxury vehicle.

      That is just Playa Vista, literally walking distance stuff. I also serve Venice, Marina del Rey, Playa Del Rey, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, and Culver City. These are very high net worth places where space is at a serious premium.

    In all honesty, I've seen you post photos of the build progress on Instagram and I had no real idea what was going on. Seeing this video, this is really cool. A parking space for nice cars designed by someone into cars. Putting low clearance into consideration was a great idea. Stoked to see the next video.

  • @HooverTuber

    I'm not crapping on your idea, I love it and it will be great - but I'm not sure that those luxury apartment high tech renters are your customers - they all use Uber / Lyft. We have tons of those up here in SF. In fact, some of garages aren’t even full because residents don’t own cars. It’s crazy.

    • @everydaybodybuilding2282
      @everydaybodybuilding2282 5 років тому +9

      Hoover on Cars I’m not sure some wealthy tech millennial is going to get the same excitement out of getting an Uber. You don’t daily drive a Ferrari. You put it in the garage and take it out on the weekend to zip around the coast. The idea is these people don’t have anywhere to safely store a super car. Or multiple super cars even if they can afford it. Granted they could move, but maybe they like their location but still want to be able to own some nice cars.

      Just got back from SF. So sad what has become of a once beautiful place. I've never seen so much trash and human feces concentrated in one area. On the other hand, Berkley just passed a law banning the use of the word manhole so that should help get No Cal back on track. I wonder how many bars will have to change their name?
