Great video. I remember reading the biography of Nietzsche written by Ivo Freznel. While writing Human all to human. Nietzsche had written a letter to a friend that said: "A sea voyage is like a mirror where the terrible image of human sadness is reflected, but deep down as laughable as my headaches." The letter also mentions that he thought of taking his own life in such a way that his rescue would become impossible. Nietzsche has that incredible disparity of being a soul in pain and at the same time a being that seeks transcendence and overcome the nihilism.
Hi, I just found your channel and I must say I am greatly enjoying all that you've put out and that I've seen thus far. I hope that you keep going for as long as possible because in my opinion this is one of the most engaging and informative channels which deals with philosophy!
This is a good concise overview of the book. The only thing I would like to point out that is misleading is at 6:30 you bring up Nietzsche’s philosophizing with a hammer and claim it is about smashing things, when this is not the case. In the preface to Twilight of the Idols, the book where the subtitle is “How to Philosophize with a Hammer”, Nietzsche explicitly does not mean smashing idols with hammers, but simply sounding them out like you would with a tuning fork to show they are hollow. It is meant to be a psychological evaluation of our values, not a destruction.
Excellent once again and I thoroughly enjoyed your interpretation. I note it was 49 51 on the two key philosopher in recent focus. Thank you this is exceptional.
Human All too human. You were reborn from worm And much in you still worm. Once you were ape And now Man is more ape than any ape. Man is something that must be overcome because I am das master of your glorious temple.
It hurts to know that I could live ten lifetimes and still not be his equal. I wish he would have had a longer productive life before he slipped into insanity.
Intellectually that's likely y true for everybody watching this video but his life was quite sad and boring outside of his philosophy. Let's all live our lives and embrace the Dionysian passions every once and a while.
Haha. He wrote the will to power and The Anti-Christ which is embracing the simplicity of economic capital as God. I think that is the pinnacle for "productivity". Nietzsche's sister turned the muck into gold by going against his desire to rebel against Wagner's political idea of Jewish anti-Semitism. Hitler wielded the power of anti-Semitism to acquire the Earth's oil to power a war machine almost capable of killing the God of capitalism. In the recognition of the future events he writes to us breaking the 4th wall advising us to use our "free spirit" to discern these rhyming patterns through time and become Gods. Forgive me for disagreeing but I think he was a productive writer with undiluted messaging.
Great video as usual, but I have a question. Do you plan to make videos about other branches of philosophy ? I mean, I love existential philosophy, but I would also love to see summaries from Schopenhauer or Kant´s work or maybe some ancient philosphers as well.
Thanks Jakub. My interests are mostly focused on existentialism, Jung & phenomenology at this moment. I will probably do more Heidegger. This interest can change in the future, of course - I may start doing the pre-socratics, Greeks, or thinkers such as Kant, Hegel, Schopenhauer, etc. Right now, I feel that there's a lot for me to cover in existentialism still though.
Great video. I was reading this while in an out patient, ultimately I wound up in the hospital. I think this, The Gay Science, and Thus Spoke Zarathustra is his best work.
@IronLions Twilight of the Idols is one of my two favorites, the other being The Gay Science. But I have recently been appreciating The Will to Power. Despite being edited, there are some great insights in there.
I was just wondering, does the penguin version contain all three parts? Human, all too human, assorted maxims and ..., and the wanderer and his shadow?

There is a lot of interesting material in Nietzsche’s letters.
@@CrazyLinguiniLegs wow, what a solid comment thank you for leaving it.
Great video! I always love how your choice of artwork adds so much to the viewing experience.
This channel deserves way more views. Keep up the great videos.

"Human All Too Human" is the Cyborg theme title in the Snyder Cut Justice League.
Apparently Tom Holkenborg took inspiration from this

Love your channel
So long as man is ignorant, he is weak, and so long as he remains unaware he is in a tomb, he will be forever trapped inside of it.
Can someone explain the quote at 4:33 from Human , All To Human ?
Thanks

Very interesting stuff! What is your favorite Nietchze book?
I know you're not asking me but for me, Dawn is my favorite. Especially the English translation from the Stanford project. Powerful little book.
Thus Spoke Zarathustra :)

@@artmusicliterature9859 explain to me what that’s about?
@@Eternalised I had already suspected that to be the case. I know Nietzsche would have agreed with you lol.
Nice

Could you make a video of Nietzsche vs Wagner
OK, but a bit too fast..
Sir more intensive philosophy books
I find it hard to concentrate on this fantastic content as I'm trying to figure out what accent this is?! An American doing a posh English accent?!
Darwin's influence on Nietzsche? Wasn't he looking at the human animal as a potential for a another animal
