- Christy Wong (@PilotChristy) takes Hannah Bradshaw up for a discovery flight in the Wong Warrior. It's Hannah's first flight in a small aircraft. They take off from Hicks in Fort Worth (T67) and fly around North Texas before coming back. Audio is a bit distorted but wanted to get this flight out for you.
I really enjoy watching these, the genuine smile on people's faces when they realize "holy shit, I'm actually flying a plane right now" is absolutely incredible. I would really love to do a discovery flight, but I'm afraid I'm just too claustrophobic and prone to motion sickness. I can fly on a commercial jet no problem but even a twin engine turboprop made me feel a little sick, even with motion sickness pills :(
I LOVE giving people their first flight! Watching videos like this one leaves me with tears in my eyes. The joy and awe experienced by first timers is indescribable. The audio wasn't that bad and the ability to fly with y"all is great! You were really good with Hannah and your ability to communicate with her in small bits of information is great. Keep it coming!
You are great at the chat to relax the learner and explaining things with enough stretch to give them a real feel for what is going on and giving positive feedback. You give bite size pieces of info and let it sink in, then again give feedback and you are not overwelming the learner.
It is a shame your co-presenter has not got access to an aircraft like yours and has to try teaching with his aircraft that is way to complex; you have the time to relax and teach (without a time sensetive mission like he has every flight).

I loved the video and it took me back to my first flight! I did wonder how much of the pilot jargon Hannah understood. Seemed to me that she is probably tense and then all the jargon would have overwhelmed her. Maybe you discussed all of these terms beforehand but I don't know. It's just a mild critique. I hope you don't mind. Made me think that maybe if/when I give someone their first flight I might want to sit in the airplane for 10 minutes just talking about the different gauges and chair fly the take off and flight.
I've never seen that many hangers on one airport. That is awesome. Must be a fun airport.
This is an observation, not a criticism. I don't do a lot of primary instruction, but after watching the video it might be best to cover up the VSI with a sticky note unless teaching a maneuver that requires a specific rate of descent or climb. This would teach new pilots to nail the altitude using the altimeter during turns from the start, instead of chasing the VSI. Note to self "Pick up sticky notes".

Christy: You have a bad case of reverberation. Hannoh is better, but still garbled.
I Think you are overmodulating --- the reverberation disappears during quiet talking. The radio comms (by you) sounds good, but the intercom is messed up
TI tried to get me to sign on back in the 80s and just before I had to make a decision I-35 became a parking lot after a bad ice storm, so I decided not to take the job.

The feed from the intercoms was over driving. Just a matter of setting the volume correctly. Will make sure that never happens again.
