This was refreshing to see the real Brian behind the brand "Optimize with Brian Johnson" Brian. Would love to see even more of it in the future. It was interesting to hear how Brian got so angry about the election, and he seems to place a high emphasis on personal choice. I'm not sure if Brian will read this, but I highly suggest looking into the "lottery of birth" (or "ovarian lottery" as Warren Buffett calls it). So much of our lives is dictated by the lottery of birth that people don't have nearly as much choice as most think. This leads to the "veil of ignorance" (or "original position") thought experiment-what kind of society would you design if you didn't know which lottery ticket you would get in life? Once you have the realization of the birth lottery, any anger you have about anything or anyone is transmuted into compassion-which is a much more pleasant and effective way to live. No one can take credit or blame for their nature or nurture-which creates/develops the brain/mind that everyone lives with (at least until some awakening moment, psychological development, etc). These realizations make you question everything about credit, blame, responsibility, and choice. Can those with low willpower, discipline, motivation, or grit really be to blame? What lottery of birth did Brian get that allows him to do what he does? Tom Bilyeu says he's worked with thousands of people over decades and only about 2% change on their own with good information. Why? The lottery of birth is perhaps the most powerful force at work in human lives. Even Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger explicitly credit it for all their monetary wealth. I'm a big fan of Maslow's work like Brian (and I highly suggest reading Maslow's late-life writing in "The Farther Reaches of Human Nature" where he adds transcendence above self-actualization), but it's important to remember that Maslow is just 1 of 100+ human development frameworks. For a more holistic perspective than just Maslow's needs, check out more of Ken Wilber's work (I only see one Wilber book on Optimize) and Susanne Cook-Greuter's work on "Ego Development Theory." Brian's final point is exactly what Wilber says about "transcend and include" (all prior stages are transcended and included in a higher embrace). As a slightly different perspective, Viktor Frankl said, "Self-actualization is possible only as a side-effect of self-transcendence." So, maybe it's not clear stages after all. Maybe you can only actualize yourself by giving yourself away to something greater than yourself (meaning actualization and transcendence can't be separated into different stages). Anyway, just some thoughts! Keep up the world-transforming work.
I realized that I sadly just missed the enrollment for the stellar Coach program. This would have been the best way to kick off 2022. When is the next cycle expected to open? Thanks for your great contribution consistently for so many years!
I have felt the same way as Brian for a long time... Its just incredible to see somebody else finally doing it... This has been my dream and i felt like the world wasnt ready for this next level and it got me really down , but like HELL YA LETS GOO! Its like MLK for me, i have a dream of a utopian society , unity love nirvana and thriving for all. LETS GET IT.
