It really bugs me when these guys talk about social security and medicare as if they were government benefits. None of us who are receiving these "benefits" see them as welfare. In fact hardly any of us will get back the money we paid into those programs while we were working. They were taxes when we were working and now they are being taxed again and treated as a government dole while the government fails to account for what they took or where that money went that they took from us under penalty of criminal prosecution. We didn't choose those plans; they were imposed upon us.

I am with you as far as people will draw more in SS and Medicare benefits than they and their employers ever put in as far as a flat payment. I’m not good at figuring out what your investment would accrue over the years in terms of interest so I can’t argue that point.
If everyone would just go to the SSA website you can actually see how much was collected over their years of employment how much was taken out of their paycheck and how much their employer contributed to Medicare and SS.
I don’t know if it is right to call it a Ponzi scheme however. What justifies having a government program that provides benefits to individuals is that there will always be people in the workforce who contribute to the plan. This would continue until there are no longer enough people working and supporting the plan or life ends as we know it. It appears that we are going to have to deal with the first one…

@@JS-ki5yq Help me to understand something, you seem to be saying the capitalist system lies at root of the problem, that unless you put a cap on how much people own you will end up with a larger government. So how do you regulate wealth and impose the caps you recommend? Sounds like you need a large, intrusive, apparatus to pull that off which is exactly what you get with a socialist system. Or will people just naturally give back what they have earned (or stolen for that matter) and say, you're right, we need to share the wealth in order to shrink the size of government, my bad?
It sounds like you are railing against crony capitalism, which I agree is a problem, but to pin it all on capitalism is a false assertion. Plenty of people enriched themselves in the socialist paradises they were claiming to be working on while the average person starved or was imprisoned for asking uncomfortable questions about how the whole thing was supposed to work. Is our government broken? You bet it is. Is it broken because of the capitalist system? There, I respectfully disagree. There are plenty of billionaires drinking from the government trough, but that game is as old as humanity itself. You know who would get rich off a system that imposed caps? The cappers.

What you put in the bank isn't yours anymore, either; it is a loan to the bank, which can be forgiven/erased by the NCUA (for credit unions) or Federal Reserve (for banks,) and you lose everything without compensation, because you are an unsecured creditor. It's called a "bail-in;" go ask your bank. I did. The FDIC just had a meeting on it. Most of the time if a program or agency doesn't spend their allocated budget they are not allowed to roll any savings over to the next fiscal cycle which leads them to waste the money with frivolous spending. In other words government agencies are encouraged to waste money.

Some GOP lawmakers appear to be under the impression that if they fail to raise the debt ceiling, the government would shut down. That’s not even close to being correct: If Republicans deliberately cause the United States to default on its obligations, the result would be a worldwide economic catastrophe vastly more serious than any temporary shutdown to federal operations.

Don't let them fool you, corporate welfare is magnitudes higher than social welfare. The problem is about 20% of people don't have the IQ(military did these studies ages ago) to really be able to hold any kind of complex job. That's just how nature works. Service industry and labour is about the best they can do BUT.........those jobs are being exported and done away with. So the only choice is to take care of these people or watch society fall apart as they find other ways to survive, usually criminal. The latter is happening due to bad policies like free trade, importing foreign workers, lack of border control, climate dogma(carbon taxes) and inflation causing a lack of jobs for the people who aren't ever going to have degrees AND at the same time increasing the cost of living for those people. Add to that other issues like drugs.........and well this was all easily predictable. They like to make you point fingers though because you feel good. The same old game the same old consequences and nobody ever learns on either side of the political line. Telling people they should work to be as poor as they are if they don't isn't a solution to anything.
