Very interesting and good presentation. I have a xbox e with same issue, driving me crazy! Going to look at that board now wish me luck and thank you.
Ok done, not the capacitor because mine is the e version. The board has been modified presumably to correct the design fault you mention above. No it was the connecting plug which had developed grubby terminals over time resulting in loss of power to the board. Took it out and in a few times to clean the connections, job done, thank you for the lead hope this helps others.
hello sir can i know which connection plug you mention
I think manufacturers today make things deliberately difficult to access in order to repair, they'd much rather have you go out and buy a new one. I hope your finger isn't to charred bro.
Boarderline blister, she'll be right.
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to learn about
audio electronics repair
try Saankramer Electronic Magazine System (just google it ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my m8 got great results with it.
Nailed it!! Thanks man!
Thanks so much For this video mate, in my console was exactly the same issue and works spot on👍👍
Awesome, makes you wonder how common this problem is.
hi everyone ,if anyone else needs to find out about

try Saankramer Electronic Magazine System (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my co-worker got excellent success with it.
After a year (according to your message's date), is your console still working? Is that cap really not necessary?
So I know it's been 5 years but I'm wondering if the RF board where it got super hot to the touch was just as hot after your fix ? I ask bc I also burned some index finger and thumb skin when trying to power it on. Sadly my ribbon cable tore when putting the 360 together so it is dead until I can get a new glossy black cover with the ribbon intact. I don't know if I also need to replace the RF board. It just seemed to me to be incredibly hot to be normal operating procedure.
It was hot because of the failed capacitor. It was cold after the repair. If yours is burning you then it still has a fault that needs to be addressed.
@@JonnyFix I don't have the skills or equipment to solder. I'll have to buy a replacement unit. I appreciate you replying so quickly!
Nice repair! Probably 10 or 22 uF cap. Just a wild guess.
Why would you waste time on the power supply when you can check the output with a multimeter? The correct ratings are on the back of the console....
As a beginner i am proud to say i fixed this exact same thing not too long ago (only just found your vid) but i had another xbox for parts and just swapped out the whole daughterboard. I just checked the dead one i took out and its got the same cap blown but mines impossible to tell from looking :)
Cool, must be a lot out there like this.
@@JonnyFix jup! Mine has just gone, was almost at the right conclusion but luckily found your video first. Now im wondering if its worth learning hot air soldering, finding out what cap i need etc. You said you ran yours without thw cap? Did that ever become an issue for you? Thank you very much in advance!
I don't own the console but it never came back with a problem. Might as well replace it if you can though.
@@JonnyFix i have removed the cap, and it works perfect, if it dies ill keep you updated. So far havent found out what the cap does haha
Caps like that are just to remove "noise" from the power line feeding chips to make sure they don't glitch and a lot of the time it's never an issue.
Do you need a hot air rework station or can you just add a big solder blob to remove the cap? My friend has this same problem on a Halo Reach edition and I want to remove the cap without destroying the pads. I have a Weller analog soldering station but no hot air. On another video, the guy said to replace it with a 100nF 50v cap but I'm not sure if that's correct or not. This would be my first attempt at an SMD component replacement.
For sure there's nothing wrong with a large blob of solder to remove it. Sometimes it's hard to remove these as the end can almost be welded to the pad if it's been really hot or arcing. If you did lose a pad you could scrape back the trace and solder to that then run a small wire from the other end to the next trace. That value of cap should work. You might even find it functions just fine without the cap to.
Hello, nice video ! i have a problem in my 360, where i have orange light but when i connect to PSON (bleue and red), it turns to red light fault, any idea where to look at (i checked the secondary schotky and it is ok) Thanks.
Hi! I hope you respond. On the first test, where we use the voltmeter on the power line and 5v , i only get 5 volts when i tap on the power button. What does it mean? Have i done something wrong? Pls, i don't want to trash this great console. Bye
If you mean the power enable signal at 6:30 then that's normal and you need to check if the yellow wire (better to check at the motherboard connector rather than break open the power adapter) is reading 12V when you tap power button. If yes you have a motherboard fault to find. If no you probably need a new power adapter. If you know anyone else with one of these try their adapter.
@@JonnyFix thank you! But the capacitor o my board was burned to. I just took it and now is perfectly functioning. Thank you for everithing!
@@mastercats9880 Awesome, good job!
I have a 360 s that beeps but doesn't turn on and i feel like ive tried everything and i can't get it to work
I THINK YOUR meant to get the top and bottom apart then that side bit comes out.
Love your videos, thanks for sharing :-)
I have a 360 that dosnt turn on. I plug the power adapter in the wall and the power brick goes orange and when I plug it into the xbox the light turns red. I replaced the power button board and nothing changed. I checked the USB pins and they seem fine. The power adapter is fine cuz it works perfect with my other 360. I think a capacitor may have went bad on the main board but I'm not any good at tracing them or have a voltage meter.
My Xbox 360 power adaptor has a red light instead of green or orange, It says on the sticker "Red = Power fault". The console won't turn on at all, but the metal chassis seems to be conducting electricity as my line tester lights up when touched.
If the power adapter has the red light going and if it has detected a fault shouldn't it prevent power from going to the console?
I wonder if the entire console board is fried as a result of this thought I didn't see any burnt capacitors or other components when I opened it up.
I have the old "fat" power brick, quite hard to come by not sure if it can even be fixed.
Not sure what your line tester is picking up on but I'm sure the brick is repairable. Just make sure the main input capacitor has discharged before poking around in there.
@@JonnyFix get a new brick
I have a original fat console it does not power on atall no fan no eject nothing
Hello der need some info. I have an xbox 360 slim, it front panel is not working but the console cant be turned on using its wired controller connected to the back. The console turns on after pressing the xbox logo on the controller. But once its turned on. The controller gets out of sync and does not work afterwards.Based on your expertise on which area should I look for faults?
You said " the console cant be turned on using its wired controller connected to the back. The console turns on after pressing the xbox logo on the controller." So this means the controller is talking to xbox wirelessly only to turn it on then it doesn't work? OR is that a spelling mistake and you meant it CAN be turned on when plugged into the back. If the front panel is not working I think that's where the wireless connection is managed so obviously fix that first then try fault find any pairing issues.
@@JonnyFix the console can only be turned on by connecting the controller to the back and pressing the xbox logo. Can u give me ur Facebook id or something so that we could discuss on this. Here is my fb profile we can have a chat if you are comfortable facebook.com/s.kids.524
@@JonnyFix forgot to mention. Once we turn on the console using the wired controller. Then the controller does not work, the console boots correctly to the main menu without any issues. At this time when we unplug the controller and plug back in, still it doesn't sync.
@@80skidgaming7 I don't have a good understanding of how the controller talks to the console. If you know that controller works ok on another console then the problem is your console. You need to repair the front panel fault before you can try anything else.
@@JonnyFix Upon detailed analysis, it seems that power is coming to the front board, and we can turn on the console by shorting the pins. But still there are not lights when the console turns on. Am analysing part by part will keep you posted. Thanks a lot for all the help
So it's safe to leave that cap off? I'm getting a system tomorrow that may have the same issue, and would like to check this
You will probably never see an issue if you leave the cap off.
I had the same issue, removed the cap and worked again for a couple of hours. Then it died again. Any thoughts on that?
@@canicani8206 Hard to say, obviously it didn't die from the same cause. I would check the area you worked on make sure there's no stray solder left behind causing a problem. You may have disturbed something else that was about to fail anyway (bad connection maybe). I would treat the second failure as likely a different fault and try to find it.
i have an xbox halo 4 edition. and the power button itself is flashing red. when it turns on the xbox logo comes up then shuts itself off. everyone is saying that the xbox board is gone. xbox has not been played on to much since we bought it new. The xbox was my brothers, it also has my brothers profile. all the save games he played and everything he had with his last touch to it. my brother passed away in 2013. the xbox use to turn on like it was new. its only been played on about 10 times already. he liked minecraft on there and he has his worlds on that. along with other games. but xbox and PC repairs wont help me fix the xbox. idk what to do or what is truly wrong with it. :(
I think (from a quick google) it might be an issue with overheating. You will need to take it apart and make sure the heatsink fins are clean form dust, the cooling fan can spin freely, and put new thermal paste on the processor.
leave it off is fine, or replace with 10v or 16v std cap any uf would also be fine, ceramic caps are knowen to just fry them selfs for no reson, maybe old age.
I don’t have the right tools, should I snap it off at least?
Yes you can physically destroy it to get it off
C57 gets the unaware every time ..... lol
Good gosh man!! I cant watch anymore. try pulling up how to disassemble an xbox 360 slim on youtube!!
I did. I'm not watching 20 videos to find the one method that will please everyone. How about you make a video showing the correct process. You're welcome :)
Good day Jonny fix. I have the exact same symptoms. PSU light turns green when feedback voltage manually supplied. I opened the console found C57 on the front panel but it is not shorted, it is open circuit. Removed the cap and it works. I would like to replace the cap with the same value but I cannot find any schematic for this. Perhaps you know the value?
I don't know the value sorry. You could measure the voltage on the pads and then chose a higher rated cap (e.g. if 12 go 16 or 25) and say 10uF would be fine. It is unusual for a cap to cause a problem when not shorted as a normal one will appear open circuit. The only exception is I've seen on these ceramic caps is they can go short after a certain voltage is applied..... maybe that was happening in your one and eventually it would have become always short.
Thank u so so much, i fixed mine.
Thanks for this
what are the part numbers of 3.3v & 1.8v regulators?
I do not know sorry and I no longer have the machine to have a look for you.
What does the capacitor do
It will be just for making sure the DC voltage there is smooth (noise free) and helping to maintain that rail.
the cover the screws for security reasons

How much power supply does it have to supply?answer quick

My dog peed on my 360 and crusted up the switch.
I guess this means he owns it now :)
this kind of work i think you r 1st time u dont know where screw install in device. please learn do not mishandling the expensive devices. sorry
