    I've been using one of these since the 80's. It's a great tool, and the affordable price makes it that much better. A lot of the tools available these days are just ridiculously priced. This one is a winner in all regards - inexpensive, simple, effective.

      A 1000 times better is a huge overstatement - I’m familiar with the Holland ‘add-on’ but frankly I’m not sure it improves the RCBS unit in any way that really matters. It does make the RCBS tool somewhat more laborious to use though.

    Another excellent real world review, thank you John. I’ve used this tool with identical results as the video, about 2 thou total variant. Then I installed the Holland’s Perfect Primer Seater kit, which is essentially an adjustable travel stop for the handle. Seating depth total variation now is realistically around 1 thou. I usually get 50 cases in a row to measure the same.
    It’s biggest advantage is that it saves wear and tear on my aching hands while still allowing tactile feedback when seating. When used with a quick change mount like Inline Fabrication, it’s a great tool.

    Hey John, nice review of such a great product. 👌
    When I initially saw the box I thought RCBS has a new product but as you reviled its contents I saw it was the same priming tool I've been using for the last 30 or so years and LOVE it! As you pointed out, I have mine mounted to a tool plate and use 4 button head screws to mount it when in use. It's a beautiful robust design which allows me to "feel" the primer bottom out. It's the only way I prime brass other than on my Dillon press.

    Great video, thanks. I bought one of those a couple years ago, I'm a bit older and thought that this would be better for my hands than the hand primer tools. Works great. When I can't manage this tool for priming, I guess it would be time to hang it up, not there yet!!!.

    My favorite priming tool. A little blue Loctite on the primer stem threads will save some headaches. Not all shell holders will allow the primer stem to pass through. You may need an RCBS holder or ream out the hole in the shell holder. I have a gooseneck light on the bench with a layer of rubber padding that the primer tube bumps into to prevent that annoying bounce. For priming a lot of cases wrapping the handle with grip tape helps your hand.

    • @l800x8
      @l800x8 10 місяців тому +1

      I put a 1" pipe plastic pipe over the handle to make it more comfortable. It also extends it to where I want it to be.

  • @ron4hunting

    if you unscrew the set screw holding the shellholder you can adjust primer seating depth . not a lot but it helps with primer seating depth . i found this out when i took mine apart for a good cleaning . machining a few groves in it would help get seating depth right were ya want it . someone with a leagth could di that in a few mins .

  • @glockparaastra
    @glockparaastra 10 місяців тому +3

    I’ve been using one for years after trying most hand primer tools. My only issue is that the seating stems sometimes stick once they’ve received a primer (i.e. they don’t fall down due to gravity once you lift the handle). It provides great feedback on the seating process and enough leverage to seat. Nice review.

    I modified mine with a piece of gorilla tape where the arm contacts the base, and a rubber band from the upper arm back to a screw in my table. No annoying bounce, or noise. Been using this for 20 years, simple and inexpensive!
