Wow! Damn, I just got rid of about a gallon of pennies. I pulled the copper out, found a couple wheaties and took the rest to the bank. It was about 15 pounds of pennies if I remember correctly. You win some and learn from the rest.
Just a year ago I was explaining the same coin at my local pub. Went across the street to 7/11 and bought 10 rolls of cents. Put them on the bar and had seven patrons search them. Results, 47 wheaties, 19 other close/wide candidates, 9 1992's wide, 4 1992-D's wide and one 1992-D close. It graded out as XF/40 by PCGS. Everybody got a share of the $450 that Rick Snow paid us for it. Great day to be an informed collector.
@@allanfifield8256 I had a host of doubts too.😂 He spent how much time in the pub and was able to walk across the street? Did he look left or right before crossing? Why would the 7/11 part with more pennies than a typical shop keeps on hand? From 5000 pennies (a box) I get about 20 wheat cents. If I am lucky, 20% are pre 1982 copper. As a kid I would sometimes get an Indian Head penny. I once fished out 3 Morgan’s from under the grocer’s counter. This was 65 years ago. I will still bend over for a penny and ALWAYS check the coin star for rejected silver coins.
I believe you because, over the years, I have had similar experiences. Within the last 10 years, I have found silver quarters, dimes and lots of wheat cents in the change given to me by my local convenience store. Once, a clerk there handed me three silver dimes - two Roosevelt and a Mercury. I pointed out to her that those dimes were each worth about $3 each. She said she didn't care and told me I could keep them. So, I did. A few years earlier (at the same store) another clerk handed me a few old wheat cents in my change. As I looked at the dates, I was shocked to see that one was a 1917-D and the other two were from the 1920s. Since the store was slow, I asked her if it would be okay for me to look through the till's pennies. Since I was a regular customer she said "No problem." I came away with 32 wheat cents. The earliest date was 1911. The rest were from the teens, 20s and 30s. None of them were later than 1939. Afterwards, I asked her where she gotten them. She said, "An elderly man came in and handed me two rolls of pennies that he used to pay for his purchase." I asked her what happened to the rest. She said she had been giving them out in change all day. Ugh! I wished I had gotten there sooner. All the cents were well worn but had readable dates and a few had mint marks. None were rare but to have gotten them in change is something I will never forget. By the way, I still have all those old silver quarters, dimes and wheat cents. I even found two Indian Head cents in some rolls about 20 years ago. I would post pictures of my finds but UA-cam doesn't allow that.
@@rvalens2I worked in a convenience store briefly a long time ago. We would go weeks without seeing anything worth collecting. Then for a few days, we would see a lot. We called it's "Daddy's Money" or "Grandpa's Money". Some kid would get into Dad's collection and would be spending it on cokes, candy, and (if a little older) cigs. Then it would all disappear as the local retail clerks would pluck everything out of circulation.

Hello from romulus Michigan brother thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise and for taking us on your adventures into coins. I have a sealed bank box of pennies sealed January 22nd 1980. Wondering if I should look through it or sell it for a $1000
This is really a coincidence about your video. Last night I was going through a box of penny rolls for these coins. Instead of finding a 92 close AM penny, I found a 1972 DDO Lincoln cent. lol! Thanks for the reminder Daniel.
I just found one coin roll hunting and the kicker is that it looks like it was minted yesterday! Very cool find. Trying to decide if I want to sell it now or wait...seems to continue to rise in value according to PCGS.
Great video. I do enjoy looking for errors and varities. Only reason to go through them. Even if they are only worth a few bucks, a penny is still 1 cent to buy. I have found some worth some good money if someone wanted to pay for it. Coin roll hunting is far safer than a casino.
I like stuff like this in numismatics. I always find it to be the funniest thing when you're talking to someone normal, and they ask why this coin is so valuable. You have to explain stuff like this completely seriously to them and they just get dumbfounded and start laughing at the absurdity of it. They can't believe that tiny insignificant difference makes it 200,000 times more valuable than the other variety. It makes perfect sense in my head but it's fun to put yourself in the place of a non-collector and just have a little giggle. Thanks for sharing. I'll be keeping an eye out now for these next time I hunt pennies!
I have a few coins. Ranging from 2009 sacagawea dollar coin to 1974 penny. If I could send you pictures, would you be able to let me know if I should get graded. I haven't seen these errors on coins yet!
I've been searching for many years for the 2 Close-AM cents as well as the 3 Wide AM ones. So far I've found several of the 1998 Wide AM and one 2000 Wide AM cents. No 1999 Wides or Close-Ams yet, but my fingers are crossed.
You just confirmed the reason that I do not bother with mint errors and variations. In your own words you said "values are falling but there is still a chance." That tells me that by the time I find one, the value will not be worth the cost of submitting it for grading. Not to be a wet blanket, but in my opinion there are no cents made since 1959 that are worth my time. Nothing since 1964 in dimes, quarters, or halves either. To me, they are nothing more than pocket change. The mint turns out billions of coins every year, so errors are inevitable. Also, given the proximity to the Philadelphia mint where I live, I occasionally have the opportunity to speak with mint employees. They have interesting stories to tell.
That's a logical fallacy, using my statement like that, these are never going to worth as little as the submission cost. Only a handful have been found, but there's more out there. My video is about looking for coins that can be found, not pie in the sky unicorns. So my video, in NO way, confirms your observations or opinions on varieties or mint errors. Decades of collecting and studying these proves your opinions on them as flawed and not realistic.
@@CoinHELPu Tell me the one about the 1982 dime with no mint mark. They started out around $8,000 until an entire hoard of them were found. Then the value fell through the floor. AFTER a fellow I knew had paid long bucks for one. The one thing that I KNOW about mint errors is that nobody knows how many are out there. You can be sure of that. So, when one is found and gets highly valued, more follow and bring down the value. How many of these cherry picked mint errors become high value superstars? And what does it cost for an average collector to have a coin graded by one of the grading companies? Honestly, are my views unrealistic and flawed? Ask the guy that shelled out for a 1982 dime with no mint mark. I'll bet he doesn't think I am so wrong. How many other examples are out there like that? I'll bet more than a few.
You use random examples of price drops and this happens to a lot of coins with the initial hype, not just errors and varieties. You're using logical fallacies. The 1982 dime went down in value because soon after they where sold, more where found, not so with the 1992 Close AM. More are out there, but they will not drop like the dime, the dime was a die with the mint mark left off, the 1992 CAM is a reverse design of a proof and is much more rare and will always be. As stated, my video doesn't confirm any of your opinions or thoughts, that was my main reason for my reply. So many varieties out there that have stood the test of time, initial hype values is high, then they drop, but they still maintain a decent value and worth much more than the grading fees. So you can chose to not look for the 1992 CAM, but as you said, being a wet blanket isn't helping anyone. I would rather you keep your negativity to yourself, it doesn't help anyone but make you feel better because think you know better and that's not what my videos are about, YOU, they're about coins and help.
@@CoinHELPuAll I can say to that is"We'll see." Time is the test that will tell. I might note that my so called negativity is reality learned from experience. I have three places here in Spokane that can do a XRF test for me All three came back with a proper copper to zinc ratio pre-1982. One shop offered me 5K cash. For those of you with experience in selling coins to dealers if you bring something in like that, they do a test then make you a cash offer on the spot you know you have something good. It will be sent off. I just don’t have the available cash to pay the astronomical fees. That’s why I have several different places test it for me. Just checking in that you folks made out okay with the storms and tornadoes on 3/14. Best,
Yes we did
I agree with your opinion that AI should be used for SOME aspects of coin grading. The rest is well informed opinion which I respect but subjective non the less
So how do you sell it
Have it graded and authenticated first.
I keep looking, and keep looking, and then I look some more. So far, nothin'.
I have this coin Mr collector
I do have them in new condition
Does anyone know if there is a close 1993 D? I just found one.
Get another 1993 and compare.
@@CoinHELPu yes, it very close to the M.... now what?
1992 D and Philly ? Why ? close AM ? I see, thank you again Daniel.
I have a lot of those and don't no what to do with it
Believe it or not I have three of those 92 pennies with the close day in and pretty good shape. How much should I ask for it?
It has to be graded and authenticated first.
I have about four of them. How much should I ask for them also
I need help to put up a picture of this coin and I'm having trouble. Can anybody help me? Thank you.
You can't put pictures in UA-cam comments.
Where can I put it for you to look at Danny? I think this is a rare, rare coin and one of a kind.
@@annemachalek its not rare until it’s attributed and in a holder like PCGS. I have a one of a kind error in an NGC holder and it’s only worth a couple hundred dollars. If you think you have a discovery then you use CONECA, I don’t attribute errors for viewers.
@@CoinHELPu thank you so much so I should get it graded I was going to but I wanted to see what you had to say about it. Thank you. I will send it to PCGS you're the best
What's your opinion on this coin? Have you seen something like that before? I'm sure it's supposed to be a 1980 but it says 1930.?????
Well I've been looking high & low
ihave
I have some cents
ALL I KNOW IS I CANT REMEMBER ALLLLLLLL THE DIFFERENT DATES AND ERRORS CONSTANTLY,I TRY MY BEST WHO KNOWS HOW MANY IVE ACCIDENTLY TOSSED ASIDE..Just saying..........
No one can, that is why you use CONECA variety vista and buy a Cherry Pickers guide and only focus on the varieties that count the most.
Hay guys i just found a1943nickle in good shape regardless of what you say it worth the coin shops only want give you a nickle for .whats the story you have.
I’ve never said a 1943 nickel was worth money, you’re asking g the wrong channel. Why don’t you use a price guide and look it up?
because its so rare why would it not sell for more
Because the hype has died down and more have been found.
@CoinHELPu
I see. ok 👍 makes sense.thanks
Do you buy coins
Yes, but not ungraded mint error coins.
Nasty looking coin. I would not give 10 cents for it. Just my opinion.
Hi congratulations for your program I loved it. Question I have some weath pennies I will like to know if they have some value? If you are interested contact me. Thank you
Buy a 2025 Red Book price guide for their values.
Thank you.
