- In this video Dr. Salvatore Vinciguerra travels to the Ocanaluftee Indian Village in Cherokee, North Carolina. The Native American Indian village is a replica of an 18th century eastern Cherokee Community located in Cherokee, North Carolina. This is a beautiful living museum that helps explain how Native American Indian tribes lived in this area along the Ocanaluftee River in The Great Smoky Mountains.
Dr. Vinciguerra first shares with you the guided tour that is given approximately every 15 minutes and starts out with the craft line which has many stations such as fingerweaving, baskets, pottery, weaponry and much more. The native Cherokees are very friendly and help describe and explain their arts and crafts.
Then, Dr. Vinciguerra visits the "Living History" section which has a pathway of replica homes and other structures that were used by the Cherokees in their communities. Some of these structures or stations have lectures which occur on a continuous basis, and some that are scheduled through out the day.
Dr. Vinciguerra shows you the traditional dances of the Cherokees at the square-grounds and part of lecture on Native American musical instruments and music.
After visiting the museum Dr. Salvatore Vinciguerra visits the botanical trail which is located behind the village and share with you several plants and gardens still used for medicinal and artistic purposes in the Cherokee culture.
