I have a 2006 Jackson Dominion in transparent black quilt with SD 59's and made in Japan. Since I bought it, it has become my main guitar. I only have love for this guitar.
Jackson went into Les Paul territory as early as 1988, with the Charvel 750XL (which was succeeded in 1990 by the Jackson Archtop Pro). While admittedly not a single cut design (they were Soloist shaped), they were maple set neck into a thick mahogany body with a carved maple top, 24.74" scale and dual humbuckers. I used to have a 750XL - it was even as heavy as a Les Paul. Then there were also the Fusion models, who were Gibson-scale bolt-ons. Also, the Jackson KV2T was a mahogany V shaped guitar with a 3+3 headstock and Gibson scale neck.
I had one of these when they first came out in 2006. When it was transparent black quilt without binding and dual SD 59's and made in Japan. It is so comfortable and the playability is excellent. It's a shame that Jackson doesn't make them anymore
@@thinkingjack Long gone!! They were going for under 2k at that time. Still pricey but I can't imagine what it'd cost now. It was a Custom Shop, too. Great axe!

They weren't all custom shop. He does have a lot of Jones Silverburst content, though. My guess is those models are selling so well he figured there was an appetite for it, but damn, we get it. Adam Jones has a Les Paul signature now.
Looks like a watered-down Charvel Skatecaster, which itself is a watered down Firebird. My favorite Les Paul-esque guitar is the Washburn Princess (P2 / P4). I wish they still made those.
I love the Dominion and would want one of the MIJ ones. I would swap the pups for the Dimarzio Dominions. And just to be clear...IMO the Monarkh series is Jackson's LP.
I stumbled upon this video after getting my MIJ Dominion a couple weeks ago. Mine is the black one and it came with a set of EMG 57/66, soldered, not the quickconnect type. I immediately noticed the guitar played great but the sound was "meh" at best. I swapped them for an 85/81 set (yes, the 85 goes in the bridge position) and added quickconnect wiring. The change brought this guitar to the next level. I've had US-made PRS, Fenders and I currently own a Carvin v220, and this guitars plays as good, if not better than those. It clicked with me from the moment I picked it up. Super comfortable, hefty but comfy neck, and the higher fret access is just incredible. I'm looking to get my second one soon!
That's one of my dream guitars on the list! I loved his signature Jacksons when they were released. I think the inlays look sick. I've got a 2018 Mark Morton Signature model! All black, with the white binding. It has the unfinished neck like you described with the DiMarzio pickups. I love it. It looks like my frets are a little different than yours. I like your quilted top and narrower frets better! Wish I could shred on it as well as you do!🤘
love these episodes. (I know you hear it every episode, but Steel Wool = bad) Fret rubbers, well worth the money, or even just plain ol' metal polish like Brasso, works great.
I’ve always used steel wool on dark fretboards, because it gets the gunk out of the pores. I wouldn’t steel wool maple . Brasso is a nice tip I’m surprised more you tubers don’t use it on their frets.
Steel wool should never be used on a fretboard or near pups. The magnets will suck the little fragments in, eventually rust and possibly short out your pups. I will use it if the neck is separate. I like micro mesh. BTW that is beautiful ax !
The Seymour Duncan sound great, and I wasn't aware that the guitarist of Lamb of God had his signature model I'm curious, between active EMGs and Seymour Duncans, which would you prefer?
Wonderful video, but please put carpenters tape over the fingerboard and over the pickups while your dress the frets! The shavings can and up stuck to the pickups and in the board pores.

There was a store in Copenhagen (and other places in Denmark, as it was a chain, even branding out to Sweden and Norway called 4Sound) that also did crazy sales, a banjo that normally was about $300 +-100 and sold it for about $2
Funny thing is, Mark just recently became a Gibson artist, and his page on Jackson's website no longer exists. He's currently touring exclusively with a fleet of Les Pauls. Seems fitting given the Dominion's core design, but the days of getting one for a reasonable price are probably numbered.
I have the black primer one with no inlays. Looks great and i wanted it to be my be all guitar, especially with the coil splits. . Got it around 2008 and i have hardly ever played it because it seems to have a few problems, that i never bothered rectifying. I could never get it to stay in tune. The locking machine heads simply didn't hold tension after bends.. The frets were so high that it was impossible to play chords in tune. Also i did'nt like the odd shape of the bottom of the body. Did'nt fit in the guitar cradle and is susceptible to dings. Ah well, I'd like to make it playable one day cos the neck felt good. It's very cute.
