first listened to this at age 12, when he says the line " for these kids that don't have a thing", at the time I was the oldest brother of 4 with a crack head step father who beat my mom and I had no power to stop it, the line meant so much to me at the time that it was my only escape. that someone else knew what it was like to live in a reality that you felt like you couldn't escape from. and to wonder what you had done to deserve this type of life; it makes me break down in tears to this day because he was writing for people like m, people with all that rage built up inside but no way to let it out... thank God for slim
beautiful, mockingbird, when im gone, sing for the moment they get me every time i feel ya...but may i also recommend: lose yourself and till i collapse xD

The first verse sent chills down my spine. I hope someone listens to this and it helps them. He said “his step father hit him and he socked him back, and broke his nose” I used to be hit by my step dad when I was a child. Every day while my mom worked. The day I finally hit him back and made him leak, he NEVER laid a finger on me again. I used to be thrown into my closet door, I got pulled out of a tree and almost broke my collar bone. I could go on and on. This was all while my dad was in the army overseas serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. If I could take out one line in this song and try to recommend to a child growing in a similar situation, it would be that. Fight back. Don’t let your abuser feel the satisfaction of making you feel weak. Make them leak. Let the bitch taste his own blood
for me it's my read dad he hit me and my sisters when i was 6, we left and he hasn't changed he's still a drug addict and drunk bastard i dream everyday of beating the shit out of him
At 38, I understand that a 12-13 year old shouldnt have to fight a grown man. But what i still dont understand is why momma went and bailed him out. I got the best of him...finally. Then I got cold steel pressed against my forehead. I begged him... not for mercy, but to end my misery. Luckily my brother hid during the commotion and called 911. They came through the door just in time....i guess. They hauled him off, 24 hours later he back on the couch. He wasnt around much longer, but at least he got to see the scared little boy become strong and fearless.
@Abdulrahman Goni Lol, you don’t know shit about rap. Eminem even said J Cole is one of the greatest in an interview he just did. You probably think rapping fast makes you a better rapper 😂😂

“Shady makes you laugh, Eminem makes you think, Marshall makes you feel” I was 8 when I started listening to Em, but I never understood many lyrics by shady, Eminem, or Marshall. All I knew was that Eminem made these songs, and his songs made me sad, happy and gave me emotions. I didn’t understand why he wrote these, but 5 years later, I understood the lyrics. I never knew his lyrics had such deep meanings. Maybe that’s why kids don’t like these songs anymore and stick to listening to new mumble rappers.
everyone who replyed os to this comment is dumb... i feel you thou bro alot of ems song hit a little to close to home. hes an artist hes an inspiration hes just real. not like any and i mean any rapper out today or in history can match up to em. tupac had a good run. but literally all but a couple of ems songs are hitz they all can be replayed and called atleast decent. i hear panda or one dance and i wanna kms. i hear a song made by any rapper from the 2000s and before that ive heard more then a 100xs i can listen to 1000 more timrs
Pancakes, be quiet. You just called you self dumb, I have one question. Have you ever listened to Eminems lyrics? Not just for singing, but for their actual meaning?
Back in those days, if you listened to an Eminem album, most of the time you'd hear Em, sometimes you'd hear Slim Shady, but on rare occasions you'd hear Marshall rap. Only true fans know the difference between the three. This track, from start to finish, is 100% Marsh.
For me its more eminem because he talks about how his music influences his listeners. For me, his marshall songs are mostly songs about his childhood and life as a father of a broken family.
Average lad probably cause Rap is today’s rock and roll, all the popular music is rap, it’s what kids are listening to, and I guess in this little analogy, Eminem is the Elvis of rap
"Idolize they favorite rappers and know all they songs or for anyone who's ever been through shit in they lives till they sit and they cry at night wishing they'd die till they throw on a record and they sit and they vibe, we're nothing to you but we're the fucking shit in they eyes"
Look I am a metalhead, but whenever some stupid ass person (metalhead or not) tells me rap lyrics are stupid with no meaning, I point them to that. Some of my favorite lyrics in a song: Or for anyone who's ever been through shit in their lives Till they sit and they cry at night, wishing they'd die Till they throw on a rap record and they sit, and they vibe We're nothing to you but we're the fucking shit in their eyes
I'm a hip hop head but i respect all types genres I'm not into metal but i can see the appeal anyone who sees a genre as "stupid" or meaningless is ignorant.
+Nikolay Stoynov Same here. I've been a big metal head for years (even though I listen to all genres), Personally I do think that most rap songs nowadays do have stupid lyrics. Eminem is the exception. He has awesome beats and his lyrics are actually awesome. Best rapper out there in my opinion.

You're not wrong bro - Eminem spoke to an entire generation when he wrote this and this other songs. They hit so hard, you can't help but just stand back and admire the skill.
@@brentmoury6372 I didn't say that either. But MGK dissed him and it brought out the best of Eminem that we haven't seen in a while. But we'd be lying if we said MGK didn't get some notoriety out of that. All publicity is good publicity.
Hearing Eminem's internal conflict between being mad at people for wanting to censor him and at the same time, feeling frustrated about possibly having a bad influence on kids listening to him, is so interesting. It's like he argues both sides.
"Till they cry at night wishin theyd die, till they throw on a rap record and they sit and they vibe. We're nothin to you but we're the fuckin shit in they eyes." "They say music can alter moods and talk to you. Well can it load a gun up for you and coock it too? Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude, just tell the judge it was my fault and I'll get sued." Em was warning us. Do as I say but not as I do. He was warning us to not follow those footsteps, to not go down that path. Don't take the music literally. Don't model yourself after it. it's merely artistic expression, not something to be taken to heart. Now, however, we got these mumble rappers and trappers promoting everything Em warned us not to do. Too precise to be coincidence. The industry's trying to kill the youth. We were warned, but a lot of us just didn't listen or were too stupid to. Oh well, better late than never.
"Or for anyone for who's ever been through shit in lives, so they sit and cry at night, wishin' they die, till they throw on a rap record, and they st they vibe." One of the realest verses ever spit.
The 3rd verse really shook me ! Eminem is indeed the greatest rapper of all time and he really deserves the title And there's nothing as Old Eminem or New Eminem...Bruh Eminem is Eminem
This song is a masterpiece lyrically. For millenials especially, those growing up and entering their teens in the end of the 90s and the early 00's, this music captured the cultural changes of that moment. The music that is the best right now comes from artists who wish to provide this current moment in time with music that impacts as hard as a song like this did in its own moment.
This line relates to my life. Or for anyone who's ever been through shit in their lives Till they sit and they cry at night wishin' they'd die Till they throw on a rap record and they sit, and they vibe.
Arguably the greatest song by Eminem in my opinion. Real and raw on a level never heard before -- AND...my most favourite song by him on a personal level.

I remember hearing em when I was 6-8 years old and he dropped "Hi My Name Is", but I couldn't listen to it much at that time, and my grandparents who raised me didn't know who he was... Well, for Christmas in 5th grade, my Grandmother bough Curtain Call from this guy named Eminem for me. He couldn't be so bad, his name is Eminem like the candy... Lol. Anyway, I fell in love with his music on the way from East TN to Myrtle Beach SC to this song. This was the first song I sat and wrote the lyrics to and tried to understand, and I am so glad I did. His music helped me overcome a horrible drug addiction, breakup, etc... It's crazy to think that one little CD my grandmother bought me in 5th grade set the stage for my favorite artist of all time!
He really did touch so many people in so many stages of life that he should always be regarded as one of the most influencial artists that ever lived. I was never in a horrible spot like you were, but Eminem was the tune of my teens and early 20's. His actuality and honest approach to contemporary issues is ever present in his lyrics and none can spit them like him. I bought The Eminem Show on a holiday in Czech Republic in 2002 when I was 15 and it was on constant repeat for at least a year before being well mixed with Linkin Park's Metheora album and System of a Down's Toxicity album! I hope life is brighter for you today than back then!

He deserves to be one of the great rappers to ever live. The rappers now rap off of fake dreams, hoes, poppin fake bottles and Xanax. When he raps the truth about his feelings and life experiences. His words have meaning unlike fake ass Gucci Gang songs. And random noises. He knows how to hold a proper conversation. Without adding Skiiiirrrt and Blblblblbl.
“For anyone who’s ever been through shit in their lives, ‘til they sit and they cry at night wishing they’d die, ‘til they throw on a rap record and they sit they vibe, we’re nothing to you, but we’re the fuckin shit in their eyes. That’s why we seize the moment, try to freeze it and own it, squeeze it and hold it ‘coz we consider these minutes golden” I wonder sometimes if he realises that his lyrics have hit the hearts of people over the span of decades. This still resonates with me today as it did when I was a teenager

I kid you not, this is my first time hearing this song and I am in tears. A rap song has never moved me so much, Eminem is a genius.
plenty of songs this good just gotta know how to find em
first listened to this at age 12, when he says the line " for these kids that don't have a thing", at the time I was the oldest brother of 4 with a crack head step father who beat my mom and I had no power to stop it, the line meant so much to me at the time that it was my only escape. that someone else knew what it was like to live in a reality that you felt like you couldn't escape from. and to wonder what you had done to deserve this type of life; it makes me break down in tears to this day because he was writing for people like m, people with all that rage built up inside but no way to let it out... thank God for slim
Then you have yet to hear mocking bird
beautiful, mockingbird, when im gone, sing for the moment they get me every time i feel ya...but may i also recommend: lose yourself and till i collapse xD
I never heard of this song and I love Eminem.
This hit me so damn hard.
"It's fucked up ain't it
How we can come from practically nothing to being able to have any fuckin' thing that we wanted
That's why we sing for these kids, who don't have a thing
Except for a dream, and a fuckin' rap magazine
Who post pin-up pictures on their walls all day long
Idolize they favorite rappers and know all they songs
Or for anyone who's ever been through shit in their lives
Till they sit and they cry at night wishin' they'd die"

The first verse sent chills down my spine. I hope someone listens to this and it helps them. He said “his step father hit him and he socked him back, and broke his nose”
I used to be hit by my step dad when I was a child.
You got that right. Back at my former program, this one punk pushed me almost down the stairs, so I socked him in his good eye as self-defense.
for me it's my read dad he hit me and my sisters when i was 6, we left and he hasn't changed he's still a drug addict and drunk bastard i dream everyday of beating the shit out of him
At 38, I understand that a 12-13 year old shouldnt have to fight a grown man.
Me too, dude. When someone twice or three times attacks you at like 11, I could never imagine doing that to a kid. Fucked me up forever.

“Shady makes you laugh, Eminem makes you think, Marshall makes you feel”
I was 8 when I started listening to Em, but I never understood many lyrics by shady, Eminem, or Marshall.

Ah ah ah there are 4 rappers b rabbit slim Marshall and eminem this was b rabbit
Isn't B Rabbit is just a fictional character that Eminem made based on himself? So basically B Rabbit is Marshall Mathers's style
Rock and roll and rap had a child and it's fucking awesome.

Look I am a metalhead, but whenever some stupid ass person (metalhead or not) tells me rap lyrics are stupid with no meaning, I point them to that. Some of my favorite lyrics in a song:
Or for anyone who's ever been through shit in their lives
Till they sit and they cry at night, wishing they'd die
Till they throw on a rap record and they sit, and they vibe
We're nothing to you but we're the fucking shit in their eyes

we don't know it, but songs save alot more people than we think
whatever negative emotions you're feeling, when you turn on the music, close your eyes and start to vibe its like you're taken to a world where stress doesn't exist..
"They say music can alter moods and talk to you. Well can it load a gun up for you and coock it too? Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude, just tell the judge it was my fault and I'll get sued."
Em was warning us.
