- Hey guys! In today's video, I will be giving you tips and advice regarding attending University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a freshman. Within the video, I will discussing easy classes, hard classes, teachers, and more. I inserted clips of my dorm, so you can get a mini dorm tour. I stayed in Scott hall fall 2018- spring 2019
Have they updated any of the dorms over the years? When I was there many eons ago as a grad student, I lived in the older grad dorm (Daniels) across the street from ISR. They renovated it after I left. I loved that campus and miss Urbana-Champaign!
They have made updates.
My daughter is a freshman and she loves the food and variety There is something for everyone there.

Of course ! There will definitely be changes. Some classes will be online/in person. U of I is still giving us updates.
Thank you for this. As a very large school, was this overwhelming your first year? My daughter comes from a high school of 3000 kids and I'm concerned that this might be too big.
I wasn’t overwhelmed and I came from a high school with about 500 people. The biggest adjustment was the bus system. I also adjusted fast because I joined several clubs and met great people.

Thank you! I would recommend Scott and Weston for freshman. Wassaja, Nujent, and Bousfield are very nice, but freshman do not usually get them because upperclassmen do housing first and select those. I hope this helps 😊

Hi! When ur a freshmen, can u pick ur dorm hall? I’ve been looking at wassaja hall.
Hello, you can pick your dorm. However, you may not get your first choice since incoming freshmen pick later than current students. Typically, it can be hard to get into Wassaja or Bousfield as a freshman. You can select it, but you should have other choices as well. I hope this helps!

Do you know anything about sororities on campus???
We have about 38 sororities on campus. Some have chapter houses, while some don’t. They are definitely present on campus through having various events.

is it hard to get in? im a junior.
I personally had a low act score, but a high gpa. It is also important to have a great essay. However, each person is different. I would say that UIUC is moderately selective due to it having a 62.2% acceptance rate.

How is it being black at a PWI? Do you ever experience any racism or are ever one of the only black people in a class?
Bri Ross My overall experience with being black at a PWI has been great. I have experienced racism off of campus at a nail shop, but not on campus. Sadly, a lot of people do experience racism at a PWI. However, there are a lot of great people and the black community is very close which helps a lot. Lastly, I have never been the only black person in class because my classes are usually a good size. I hope this helps !☺️

WOW! DEJA, I WOULD LOVEAUGUST, 1966 TO HAVE HAD SOMEONE GIVE ME TIPS AND ADVICE FROM THEIR OWN PERSPECTIVE ON A VIDEO. LIKE YOU HAVE DONE IN YOUR VIDEO. I LANDED ON U OF I'S CAMPUS IN CHAMPAIGN URBANA, WHA IT WASCALLED THEN. I WAS BLESSED THAT I LIVED IN TAFT HALL DORMITORY, DOWN THE HALL FROM CAROL ANN PARKS, WHO BECAME MY "BIG SISTER" AND MENTOR, WHO INSISTED THAT I SHOW HER EVERY ONE OF MY COMPOSITIONS FOR MY FRESHMAN WRITING CLASS BEFORE I GAVE THE COMPOSITION TO MY INSTRUCTOR. CAROL ANN SUSPECTED THAT MY INSTRUCTOR WAS RACIALLY PREJUDICED AGAINST ME. AND SINCE CAROL ANN MADE ONLY A'S IN ALL OF HER CLASSES, INCLUDING WRITING, SHE WAS PREPARED TO ADVISE ME ON MAKING THE CORRECTIONS I NEEDED IN ORDER FOR ME TO GET AN "A" IN WRITING CLASS. MY FINAL GRADE IN THAT CLASS WAS A "B.' HAD CAROL ANN PARKS NOT GIVEN ME THE "TECHNICAL SKILLS" ADVICE, i BELIEVE I WOULD HAVERECEIVED A FINAL GRADE OF "D" OR WORSE. YOUR ADVICE WAS GREAT, DEJA HILL.
