  • Quitting NaNoWriMo? - Struggling to Write in my Third Trimester // As promised, here's my first NaNoWriMo vlog and it did not...go as planned. Since I'm well into my third trimester now, I'm tired both physically and mentally, and it's not something I was really prepared for when I set out to write an entire novel in a month. And the last thing I want to do is force myself to write rather than relax while I still have the chance to relax. So there's a slight shift in plans, but I hope you still enjoy the vlog regardless! Make sure to watch the video to see what I'll be up to this month as I prepare for maternity leave!

My wife is 34 weeks pregnant today! I commend you because I see how exhausted she is. 😅😅

Don't call it a failure. You're focusing on yourself and your baby. You are postponing the book. I know what that tiredness feels like. I took maternity leave at 7 months and it was a hard slog to stay awake at work.

You're not quitting. You're shelving it for later. Like you said, it should be fun.

I'd love to watch you figure it all out. I started series over 13 years ago (5 book ya fantasy series) and we moved a bunch, and had 4 babies over the course of that time. I've plotted all five and the first one finally comes out next year!

I also abandoned the lofty word count goals and been focusing on outlining. Outlined a 4 part series and now I'm outlining my backstories into their own short story collection. Drafted a couple of scenes. I'm glad I took this route. Feeling like I'm doing better at this pace, and I'm not even pregnant!

To each their own for sure. I remember when I first decided I wanted to create a novel, I did a lot of planning and crafting of a book, and eventually I believe this planning just got me anxious about the text, all the fun was in describing how it would happen, when I wasn't actually improving my own physical writing.
So I ended up scrapping my plans, going back to writing short stories, until I eventually wrote a short story I KNEW could be so much more.
For the next few months I made myself sit down and write at least one page a day. This always got the creative juices flowing, and got my project done.

@@ianerickson2210I think I'm getting close to that point myself. I had a couple of days recently when I put the outlining to a side and let myself write scenes without planning them - while they were still fresh in my head. I managed around a thousand words both times and I did enjoy it. There's only so far outlining can take me after all and I have been using it as a crutch to not write.

Omggg I remember getting severe carpal tunnel during my first pregnancy! Had to wear a brace too! My fingers would like lock up in the morning after I’d wake up if I didn’t wear the brace 😬

Mandi, I LOVE your videos you are so good at explaining things. I have learned so much from you & your video's. Please help, I have made a 8.5" x 8.5" children's book with spreads. My Kdp & Ingramspark paperback turned out perfect, but for some reason my case laminate hardback I just received has 1/8" white lines on each side of my gutter so my spreads are almost a 1/4" from being connected. I use the same internal manuscript as I did with my paperback (8.625 x 8.75 pages) is this right or do I need a separate internal manuscript for my hardback?

I added all my writing numbers last night and I’ve past 50,000 words and got 61, 000 to 62, 000 words for my story so I beat NaNoWriMo as if last night yeah
