I'm going to be on the Windstar Star Breeze in November for 10 days touring the Tuamotu Islands and I'm struggling with the many excursions available. How do I pick the best of them? I can't possibly do them all. (I don't dive but like to snorkel) Where can I find a list of the "Must Do" for each stop?
I see that nobody has replied so I can share with you what my wife and I did in late June of this year on the Dreams of Tahiti Cruise. First of all, I'd like to say that this was our first cruise outside of the huge Princess line ships. The crew is great and they will make you feel very comfortable. They will actually get to know you and you will most likely make friends. The boat is a bit more rocky while traveling than the big ships; but, since the boat repositions at night it wasn't much of a problem. My wife is prone to sea sickness and didn't have issues on this trip. Bring dramamine if you are concerned. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the food a 7. The entertainment in their small lounge/theater is adequate. You do not need to book excursions for Motu Mahaea (Tahaa) as it is simply its own island paradise. There is good snorkeling off the beach and the current will move you right along. It was one of the best days of our trip. The complimentary celebration festival on Bora Bora is also good and included. On Bora Bora we hooked up with an ATV adventure tour and toured the complete island. I am 71 and my wife is 60 and we had a blast. The tour company picked us up at the tender dock and it was very fun. We had a full day to kill in Tahiti on our last day. We rented an electric car from a car company across from the airport for about $50 US for the day. We toured the entire island seeing all the sights. We also rented a car on Moorea for the day. Its easy to find the sites the tours take you to. Our only other excursion was a snorkel tour booked through Windstar on Huahine. It was a very good tour. The swim platform is dropped from the ship at various stops and you can check out a kayak or other adventures dependent on weather conditions. I had viewed the reef snorkel trips where you drift with the current (the currents are fairly strong in places) but opted not to book it because it was rated strenuous and my wife is not a great swimmer. I spoke with several people who did the excursion and regretted it. Most of the people on the trip were cut by the current pushing them into coral in shallow waters and needed to be bandaged on the way back. With that knowledge, I am glad we did not book that excursion. The entire trip was more expensive than our typical cruise; but, I have absolutely no regrets and highly recommend the experience. I can provide the name of the ATV tour operator and the rental car companies we used if that would be of help to you.
