  • To upgrade the audio or navigation system in your 2012 ~ 2017 Mazda 6/ Atenza, you'll need to first remove the factory head unit.
Here's a step by step tutorial on how I did it on a 2015 Mazda 6 Atenza.
✅ BTW, do you know the FIRST interior mod you NEED to do on THIS car?
I made a video about it! Check it out here! 👉👉👉 • BEST NC MX-5 Miata Pho...

You DO have to take out that central bolt if it's your first time removing the OEM unit

Have you had any luck finding the wiring diagram for the radio? The previous owner butchered my wiring

      Aww that sucks.
      Have you seen this? www.hobbielektronika.hu/forum/getfile.php?id=24368
But if it's still too hard to figure out, it might be worth just installing completely new wiring for the audio. This way you can use some slightly thicker gauge wiring with better insulation. It's a ton of work but might be a worthwhile upgrade. 😊

Which head unit did you replace your stock unit with? Does your new one retain steering wheel and commander knob controls?

      Thank you for watching!
This was done on a customer's car, so I can't remember the exact model, sorry!
As for steering wheel controls and aftermarket head units, you'll need a special adapter that matches the vehicle and is compatible with your brand of head unit.
It's just a tiny block usually about the size of 2 match boxes. It has a connector for the steering wheel control input from the car, and another connector that feeds the decoded signals to the head unit.

I have a 2015 6 base and I removed the 10 mm and the 2 screws on the left and right and my radio is still stuck, I think it needs a pry tool to pry it off but I have no idea where to pry from lol

If it doesn't budge at all, there might be a 3rd or 4th screw/bolt holding it in. Have a look if it's the 3rd bolt under the radio head unit as I point out in the video at 1:15.
If not, try feel and look around the head unit to see how it's held in and what kind of brackets are being used.
      Hope that helps!

There was a mid term interior update. The steps shown here are for the older style.
