Just started watching your vids is there anything you can’t do Regards mtb 😁👊
You're on the trending page again!
Famous ☺️
Looks the business! Really cool seeing it being put together. Great to hear/read your reasonings behind parts and set-up.
Lucky guy. So jealous
Hey BEN. That HT is FIT! Love them in that grey. Nice choice.
Looking sick Ben!!!! The orange definitely compliments the frame
Thanks Scott, real happy with the combo 👌
Makes me want to slowly save my money and buy a custom bike, piece by piece, just like this. SO SICK!
Enjoy my friend!!!
You can count on it 👌
Wow, I absolutely love it! The black stanchions combined with orange decals look so super nice! What a nice bike!
I don’t know how I bumped into this channel but I watched your video until the end! Subscribed too. I think I was just amazed of how you put a bike together. I had trouble removing and putting my front wheel back together I was that lame. 😅
Rad bike man!!! Congrats!!
The bike looks so good love it nice video !!
Awesome build 👍🏻
Looks great!!!
Syncro trail fender would look sick
The Bike looks awesome😲

New subscriber and I have to say watching you build that bike makes me wanna sell off my hard tail and build myself a bike from scratch again
wow! it's so cool.bro!
Watching you build a bike is so much more fun to watch than most people.
P.S. I just subbed to your channel
Wooo!
P.S. Thanks
that is a sweet build, 29ers look so socially acceptable but i cant bring myself to it :')
Haha, they look good on massive frames. Looks like a 26’r when you see me riding it.
Sweet!
Good job
I feel like I can jump higher, push the limits further and take any berm faster now I know you’ve got SLX cranks too!! 😜😜
Joking aside that’s one stunning bike mate!! 👍🏼👍🏼
Got SLX on my GT FORCE CARBON X. they look so much nicer than XT. Very dependable.
Gets a super nice from me!
That bike gets all the girl bikes. ❤
8:40 OMG LOOK AT ALL THESE SICK BIKES! IS TGAT A ELETRIC TRIALS? OMGGGG
Thx for not letting us hangin!
You're very welcome 👍
Herb Derb I
Ben I know you have a few XL bikes laying around, help another Tall guy out and please donate one of your lovely Mtb’s broski! Cheers, great videos!!
Awesome
You putting the saddle way back is the opposite of me when I put my saddle all the way forward in small size Banshee Rune frame :D
Small + tall people problems 😣
So true
I was just about to subscribe because of this build videos then you put that mud guard on it say a changed my mind
You’ll be missed. 😭
Ben Cathro haha nah just kidding I love mtb and when I saw one of my favourite non mtb channel mike Boyd do mtb with you I chucked a sub
nice to see another civilized human (ie. a tall one) who hates those slack seat angles ;) no idea what manufacturers are thinking...
Beta hex wrenches... yes my friend. Good man.
Not mine sadly, they’re Taj’s. He won’t stop talking about them 😂
Ben Cathro it's worth it. You feel special every time you use them once your the one that's spent £100 on 8 😂
Just subscribed
I run 4 rotor bolts also. So worth it. ⚖️🌭
Nice build. Pretty sure there is a much easier way to find the correct chain length, but you got the right result and you're also about 1000% faster than me so I can't talk really.
You're probably correct, this was just the method that popped into my head so I didn't have to touch the fresh greasy chain too much 😂
Ha ha! I am definitely correct. On both counts.
Wow 😍
I know right! 😘🚲
The finished product looks awesome. Id like to drop some money on a bike like that but i dont have much
sweet
I had to slam the seat forward on my SC Tallboy also. I’m 6-3 and ride an XL.
Ever seen those layback seatposts? I need a layforward 😂
You look just a bit like Gatis Kandis 😂😌
A good tip is to run a spare cleat bolt when bolting disc up Ben..if using spuds of course . What saddle is that ?
You have triggerd my OCD by not using all the brake bolts!
Haha, hope you don’t lose to much sleep over it 😉
Sweeeeet
Great video Ben love watching the bike being built. When’s the downhill videos coming?
When I get a chance to build it! Soon hopefully!
Ben, great video and gorgeous bike! I am the same height as you. Although beautiful, the Santa Cruz is a bit out of my budget, any other bikes you've ridden that you've felt really comfortable on being 6'7"?? Thanks! - Ty
I’d base my bike sizing on reach for a gravity orientated bike. You def want something 500mm-530mm range. I haven’t ridden any other bikes recently so can’t recommend anything! Good luck 😉
For those of us with HT LT's, any recommended settings for rebound, compression, etc on both fork and shock? I'm your height, 190 lbs, running no rebound at all currently but bike seems a touch unpredicatible on jump lips, wondering what Cathro sets his at! Pressures would be alright too! thanks mate
6 titanium bolts FTW
hope 23mm mount is what I have on my mattoc's bought at the same time as the fork :P
get one of those 29er specific saddles for longer rails
4 ti bolt then !
OAAC Médias one did 5 bolts cause one of my cleat bolts went bye bye on a ride
Didn’t realise they where interchangeable. That’s a nice hack.
Ben Cathro these are time atac cleats. Don't know if shimano or other ones are the same. You might find clearance issues too as the mechanise between time and others are different but worth a try to see I suppose.
Mudhugger apart, great looking build.
Don’t hate on the hugger 😂. It’s so good for keeping the shit off your face👌
Ben Cathro - Function over fashion 🤨😂
I agree with gregtelf that I don't like the looks of the mudhugger but I bet it works really well.
What mudhugger model is this ?🤔
Looks so sick with all the orange decals, just wondering how the pedals feel though? Been thinking of getting a pair?
Best flats I’ve used ever. Ran them for a season on my old bike, mega grippy!
6:16 OMG xDD
Any tips to get the rubber cable grommets into frame nicely with the brake cable? Mine are all half in and look like a joke. Find it all to easy to kink the outer.
Tiny bit of grease on the rubber 👌
Did u have any issues with the dpx2? Mine squeaks and feels sticky at the beginning or too of the stroke. And squeaks when I press I down fast
So will it be a lot cheaper to buy the frame and buy all the part separate? Is there a website that tells me everything I’ll need ?
Nice build! What was the final weight?
I just got my HTLT today and have an invis kit and lime green decals. Should I put the invis on first then apply decals or put decals on first?
I put mine under so the decals were protected too. They are quite delicate. It does make the invis even harder to stick down though 😣
Where did you get the perfectly fitting stickers from?
I dont suppose youve had a chance to ride a n4 yet? And if so any initial comparison thoughts
The reason why pros use less rotors bolts is to make rotor changes fast
It’s a benefit but it’s not the reason. Back then it was to make the bikes lighter. Pros have many sets of wheels so if they ever bent a rotor they’d just stick another wheel on.
Throw some clip pedals on their and you've got my dream bike.
They’ll be going on for the first race.
How's the sram guide brakes going? I've got a new bike with them but haven't been able to ride due to a broken elbow and just wondering how much stopping power they have etc
There’s been moments of brilliance when they’ve had lots of power but I’ve had a few issues that have spoiled the testing. I got sealant on the rear pads and I think it’s ruined them. I then crashed and damaged the cable and got dot fluid on my front brake. 🤦♂️. Once I’ve got them sorted with some fresh pads I’ll report back in a future vid.
Is that a chain tamer hidden on the chain stay there too? Interested to hear your thoughts on that, another potential function over form mod haha.
Yup, the uk importer asked me to try it out and it seems good. Need to do some back to back testing to see if there’s any real benefit.
need an orange seat
Was wondering how the der kaiser rolls? will have same set up as you pretty soon and would like some third party feedback
I’d say it’s in the middle. Similar to a high roller, better than a magic Mary. Grippier than both of them though.
Hey Ben are you thinking of coming to Australia any time soon?
No plans yet! Barely got the budget to get to the shops let alone Down Under. Last time I was there was Canberra World Cup in 08.
whats the chain device that you didn't mention?
Nice!!! I'm 6'5 and picking up my custom gray XXL LT tomorrow. I'm 265 kitted and have a short 32" inseam. I'm curious what rise your handlebars are and how many spacers you have for the stem/steerer tube. My wingspan is the same as my height. I'm not sure im going to slide my seat that far forward though because it would lessen the reach. Curious how many volume spacers you do and your weight as well. I'm doing a GX build.
Niiiice, this bike is going to be perfect for you. I’m on 38mm rise bars with 30mm of spacers under the stem. I used 3 volume spacers in the front and the big one in the back but I’m an aggressive rider. I find seat position is all about climbing weight distribution, if I feel like the front wheel is light going up steeps then I slam the seat forward. When descending you’re stood up so seat position is irrelevant. With shorter legs you might find a neutral seat position works but you’ll have to experiment.
Ben Cathro Awesome! Thanks for the reply Ben!
Ben Cathro Awesome! Thanks for the reply Ben!
@@BenCathro ben don't you ride only downhill? when do you do climbs up ?
I am very curious about why do you slam your saddle forward and what is your saddle angle? as I am also pretty tall
also as I do not have a dropper what do you recommend doing when I approach the downhill section of a trail or jumps drops etc lower the saddle manually from pedaling height to as low as possible ?
basically, what do you recommend for folks that do not have a dropper?
thanks!!
Looks shaweeeeeeet mate! Nowt wrong with SLX. I'm on SRAM GX on my new bike and missing my old SLX/Zee mix. Not getting on with SRAM Guide breaks either...
Been running slx components for years, flipping top quality stuff. Had guides on my DH rig last season, they were alright but lacking a bit of bite. These guide re's with the code calliper have a bit more power. I'm liking them so far!
Casey Neistat theme music!
Question for you! So I bought a 5010 that came with 2x slx cranks that I converted to 1x. I noticed that my chain line was angled when in the middle cog. I moved my bottom bracket spacer to the non drive side to bring it back over which worked, but messed with my Q factor. I noticed at 3:20 you also used 2x slx cranks. Do you have the same problem with your chain line??
I also run the spacer on the non drive side to bring the chain line closer to centre. When you say it messes with your Q factor do you mean that it just feels offset? I though Q factor was distance between your feet. I don’t notice the offset but didn’t try the spacer on the drive side to compare.
Whoops you are right Q factor it is the distance between your pedals, got my terms mixed up! What I meant was the center of crank to center of my frame, it's roughly 7mm to one side. Didn't know if this would have any negative long term effects on body or bike
does u had problam using a shimano rotor with sram brakes?
Her: Come over
Me: I cant in busy
Her: My parents left the house
Me: 5:15
How and where did you order those orange custom Fox fork stickers?
From my sponsors Flotec Suspension. 👌
Tell ur sponsors to get me a bike like yours
day 73 in the big brother house
😂
Did you compare it with Bronson CC and 5010 CC? I own a bronson CC X01. If you tested it is really the HT LT more agile by curving on flat streets than the bronson?
My last bike was a Hightower so I did not get to compare to bronson or 5010. 29’rs are never more “agile” as the big wheels take a little bit longer to change direction due to their larger rotational mass. It feels more stable.
thank you and Mery Xmas!! And what tyre pression are you using?
26 front 30 back.
whats ur weight for that pressure? Im 194lb and using 32-35 psi
I’m about 195lb I think. Depends on the tires you use as well. I use 1 1/2 ply tyres or “Enduro” casings. If I was on single ply I’d go harder.
Ben you’re saying the seat tube needs to be 76-77 degrees ?
You still riding this ?
How did u get the decals for the seat tube
Cut it myself out of vinyl.
Ben Cathro wow buddy how long that take?
Hey Ben. Have you ever tried an oval chainring? I've been running one for a few months now and I'm very impressed. A big improvement on the climbs and my bike accelerates much faster now. I'll never go back to a circular one! Love the new bike, it looks amazing! Those orange stickers were a great idea.
Hi James, used one way back the last time they were in fashion. Didn't really feel any benefits but it was on a DH bike so maybe didn't have enough time pedalling to feel the difference. In road racing they've tested them and found inconclusive results in power output so the choice ends up being down to personal preference.
I always assumed it was a gimmick. I read a lot of reviews of people praising the Absolute Black Oval Chainring. I needed a new one and this was the same price as my worn out 32T Race Face and decided to get one. Apparently, Shimano tried the oval thing back in the day but got the orientation wrong so it didn't work as intended. After buying one and testing it myself there's a very noticeable difference when climbing and a smaller difference when accelerating. Its dynamic size (my 32T changes from 30T to 34T with each revolution) eliminates some of the dead zone between strokes so you're on the power more. If you can ever get your hands on one I'd definitely recommend it :)
What tape you use for that chain noise?? Please share a link :)

Why you missing two bolts on disc brakes lad?
Ben, what's the song at the first?
Was there any reason in particular that it took you the best part of three days to build the bike?
I regularly completely disassemble, clean, lube, rebuild and reset, adjust and retune all my gears shocks and hydraulics. All of that takes on average between three and four hours maximum. Obviously i don't have camera angles to worry about " but still "
Also that is an absolutely awesome machine you have there and you are a very lucky boy indeed. I am extremely envious i must say, i just don't get why you didn't invest in a better group set. Seen as that is basically the most important and integral part of any bike.
2 reasons, putting on invisi-frame protection takes flipping ages, especially in a cold shed. That took pretty much all of day 1. Then I was missing parts so couldn't finish on day 2. Filming is a total pain in the ass as well, spent most of the time standing around thinking about what angle I should get, what should I say to camera, chatting to mates who came and went. It was a pain.
I love bikes but unfortunately my first hardtrail bike got stolen :(
Boooo! That’s pants man. Hard luck.
Sir nice bike i want it ricky endrada from Philippines sir
What's with the massive mudguard! whole thing needs binning and starting again! 😩
Have you ever ridden a bike in Scotland? Can’t see anything without one. There’s a reason MX bikes run them, dunno why MTBr’s a blind to the benefit. Pun intended 😂
music?
why sram brakes with Shimano rotors?
beautiful bike btw!
SRAM brakes were cheaper and potentially more reliable (had loads of shimano levers fail). Ice tech rotors hold true better and run cooler 👌
Ben Cathro ..hi ben...very nice bike👍..so with the ice tech Rotors is it a case of just fit and ride?
I too run sram rs brakes and was looking into changing my rotors. .i was looking at hope floating rotors but once i started searching the web people are talking about filing calipers to make the fit(which is a no go for me)
I just want a solid performance rotors,6 bolt to fit and ride!
Colours would be nice...but performance comes first!!
Aye, fit and forget 👌
Now that's some proper bike porn!
subbed!
🚲🍆❤️
4:21
i am also tall what is the reason that you ram the chair forward?
if you will answer imma be really happy !!!
For a steeper seat angle
2:40 why, whats the benefit?
What is that gold Bottom Bracket?
Shimano Saint
Whas the song u used???
Anonymous User #2351223 political statement Dizzy
Does anyone else think Ben looks a bit (and I mean a bit) like Pewdiepie???
