That dinner scene really shows the good side of Hellboy. He, although himself, is a Devil, but he too feels ashamed and sympathetic to seeing the corpses of the children.

I think its realistic she is aware of the system. I think its realistic she knows its what Hellboy uses. I think its realistic she then decides to use it so he understands how high these statues will be. I think its realistic that you care too much and look into a tiny detail that could be explained in 2 sentences

@@TheDreamerkfI agree that it is entirely possible they just didn't think it through. In fact i agree its probably the case but at the same time there is nothing wrong with her using it. I don't remember the movie all that well since it was terrible so cut me some slack here. Even though the story of Baba Yaga obviously originated in Eastern Europe/Russia is it not possible that in this interpretation she was American? I mean it doesn't really matter and maybe its established somewhere that he goes to Russia to find her idk i can't remember the movie but my point is there are countless ways you can explain this in ways that shouldn't have been established in the movie.
@@hektor7798 Unless there is a Stalin at the US, I pretty think, it was the slavic floklore Baba Yaga, the Iron Hag ;). I get it, it is a small nuissance, just these small detail slips are bothering me. Use a made up horror monster, instead of an existing folklore.
Baba Yaga has shown up in so many fantasy type movies & games, and I love it. My grandmother was Russian and used to tell Baba Yaga stories when I was a kid.
Not going to lie, this scene was dope, baba Yaga scared the shit out of me, very well design !

Virtually every one gives David a hard time. Yes Ron is brilliant, hardly anyone is doubting that. But i think David did a respectable job. Not to mention, he was playing a younger version of Hellboy.
Of all the problems this film had, David was *not* one of them.

They just studied Alexander Afanasyev’s book of Russian folklore. He made the biggest and the fullest collection of the original Russian fairy tales.
Ron Pearlman voice will never be replaced, so much more menacing as Hellboy.

Fun fact: the most famous Russian movie image of Baba Yaga was actually played by a Soviet/Russian male actor Georgiy Millyar. Just type in Georgiy Millyar Baba Yaga. His version of Baba Yaga from the old Soviet films is still the most iconic and famous Baba Yaga in all of history of the cinema.

In Russian folklore, Baba Yaga (short for Grandmother Yadviga) has an ominous appearance, but still has a similar face to an old woman with a long, hooked nose. The only funny thing in this scene is that Baba Yaga pours borscht made from children. Folklore never said that she cooked borscht. She just baked the kids

people give this movie a lot of shit because they compare it to older hellboy movies and it was a guillermo del toro project which set the bar really high. one of my favorite movies/director btw.
This newer one leaned in on the comedy and I fucking love it! David Harbor is so much funnier and delivers the comedic writing better.
It was fine. I think people were bitter that they weren't getting Pearlman and Del Toro back.
The Baba Yaga scene was probably the highlight of the film.
personally I felt like the new team read more of the comics...
This is one of the best characters/scenes. I think it was panned brcause a lot of the creatures and plotline felt to disjointed. Like there was to much going on. I personally appreciate the effort but they should have had more unity in design and story. There also was a turn where Hellboy is revealed to be a bully of the Boar cannibal in his youth and I think that counteracts Hellboys view of being a misunderstood underdog himself.

Eastern European folklore has really started to become more popular in the last decade. Likely it was the Witcher that first started the trend of exposure, but a lot of media is now delving into it.

It’s long overdue. Eastern Europe isn’t reduced to Dracula only. We have a very rich and extended folklore that should definitely be explored more actively. I’m a long-time fan of the original Hellboy with Ron Perlman and it brings me joy that our historic figure Rasputin is the main antagonist in the first instalment. The Hellboy’s team even travels to Moscow to vanquish him. And now, after all these years they release a brand new movie with a Baba Yaga scene in it. Which is really cool.

The comparison was shit to begin with. They could compare him with Koschey Immortal, for example. Baba Yaga was obviously a female character. Though she is somewhat neutral in fairy tales. She is like a gatekeeper between alive and dead worlds, this is why all folklore heroes had to come to her to seek for advice.

This is the most Badass Hellboy ever Made! It was Rated R18+ in Australia, that is NC17 rating in US! By comparison, Saw X was only Rated MA15+ that is R rating in US!
