Alec Steele Blacksmith 2021 - Розваги
I wanna see Alec's face when he remembers he has to do both sides of the guard lol.
I was just thinking that. He's gonna be devastated
@Adam Barron The hole is already cut. It doesn't go through the design
was thinking the same haha
Yeah, when he said "we are almost halfway done" I was "Oh no we're not, there's still the other side".
You should’ve seen my face when I read this
Today on part 76 of "Making a Shamshir Scimitar" we finish up the engraving and move on to grinding the blade.
Part 87 of grinding the blade , stay tuned for belt change!
Tl;Dr "We finished the engraving and the blade has magically ground itself"
"...finish up the engraving and move on to hand sanding the blade."
the fact that he translated omlette du fromage, but didn't get the reference. Jamie i applaud you, Alec, watch more vintage cartoons.
You'de think being a smith and engraver that he would be more . . . Dexterous . . .
Vintage??? Oh no, am I old?
If I'm not mistaken, that episode of DL (SE1 E9) came out a few years before Alec was born. Feel old yet?
@@jennareynolds1403 that episode came out in 1996
edit it is called big cheese
@@Ruizg559 It had not really sunk in until now that Alec is not the same age as me, he really started so young!
I still just can't get bored after 4 years of watching your videos. And 4 years of making my own knives and Jewelry.
The precision and fine detail here is outstanding. This is going to be so cool.
Was that ever a question?
I enjoyed the time with Will, don’t get me wrong. But Jamie just brings that British humour to compliment Alec even more 🥲
Nah jaime is great an all but will was on another level. His eye for detail and his willingness to put hours and hours of hand sanding/filing/grinding really brought their work up a notch in my book.
I see Jamie is a man of culture! sTaY oUt Of My LaBoRaToRy!
I just read that in Dexter's voice. Lol
"Sometimes it stressful and you want to pull your own eyes out, but sometimes it's not."
Classic 😂
Jamie you legend. A Dexter’s Lab reference AND you fixed the scooter? Quite an episode for you. Well done.
So glad the multi video series projects are back. This is what I love about the Alec Steele channel from years ago.
Cant wait for part 69 of this series!!
Nice.
@@lukahovanec4192 Alec is really milking this project. Weekly 10 min episodes where he makes little progress with 2 mins of adds......... Good business model if he can keep it up.
Nice
@@Ruckusnuts my thoughts exactly
Damn it Alec where is your safety tie! Get Colin to come around and give you one of his. It has magical powers that gives the wearer 100% protection from fall damage!
Jamie, editing is #1. 👍
Here Will grind this sword blade while I engrave - OHH wait, Will's not here anymore - Rat's I'll have to grind it myself.
I wonder if thats why they split.
Tho will really was the master at fine detail and I think he pushed Alec to forge it closer to final than he does now
Remember kids, when you are an extreme novice with something like engraving, always choose the most complicated designs. That is the smart play.
“It’s almost meditative.” Alec just discovered why I enjoy soldering under a microscope. I work on medical equipment and the feeling of getting a giant quad flat pack chip soldered, every joint nice and consistent is amazingly satisfying.
5:12
NEVER expected a Dexter's Lab reference on the channel😂😂😂
And by the look on Alec's face, he never expected one either!
Dexter’s Lab is a lot like the Spanish Inquisition in that way.
I'd be down for more engraving footage (without changing to other things in between) it's satisfying to watch
It's taking shape Alec, great work ! And well done to Jamie for fixing the scooter :P
I’ve said it before and I’ll say
it again, Alex, your talents and sense of adventure are just beyond extraordinary!
It’s been so long since we’ve seen the blade! Thanks for reminding us what it looks like! Can’t wait for part 32 on the guard!
Excellent musical timing at 7:27!!
engraving is a skill that utterly baffles me. How people even get to the proper skill level to be a master engraver seems like its an endless amount of practice.
I throughly enjoy how much Jamie has become involved in the videos, him and Alec work so well together and have great banter
I’ve been scrolling looking for something to watch and then the gods gave me a sign and the notification to watch Alec
you and me both
50 million points to Jamie for the Dexter's Lab reference
The dexters lab reference made my mind melt, ive gone 20 ish years never having met anyone who knows about cheese omlete and randomly out of nowhere bloody jamie says it and i just about had an aneurysm
This scimitar is going to cost like $20k with Alec putting this much time into it
How do you not go crazy striving for perfect lines at that high magnification? What looks wavy at that magnification must look perfectly straight with a naked eye, but that has to be hard for a perfectionist to remember.
I can’t wait to see this blade finished. It’s gonna be bloody wicked, yes!
I hope one day I can have a set up just like this, Alec Steele videos are the reason I started attempting pattern welded steel!
Not usually the one to try sponsored products from UA-cam, but about a year ago, KOVE sponsored you and I gave in and bought some and I absolutely love them! Used your like as well! Love your work!
Life lessons. When you look at your mistakes under a microscope it’s overwhelming, most of the time we’re looking at them at arms length and everything looks beautiful!
That looks insanely hard! Good on you for going for it and sharpening your skills
Well done Jamie for the dexter's lab reference. Excellence in editing.
I bet he could make a epic disc golf basket.
I totally understand the meditativeness of this kind of work. I tool and carve leather and its crazy how relaxing it can be.
Alec being too young to get that Dexter's Lab reference made my day. Hypnogogia is a sci fi method that, if I'm not mistaken, was first popularly introduced in the book Brave New World.
Have appreciate the incredible skill of craftsman we take for granted. Hope we don't loose these skills.
0:00 MAAANNN... I was tryna watch your videos before bed to relax and now I'm wide awake 😭😂
I knew exactly what omelet du fromage was referencing, and now I feel old.
Hard to believe the finest pieces ever created were don't without the technology available today!!!! Their work was unbelievably perfect. Your work is fantastic, but can you imagine what it was like before all the boy toys available today???
Great work!!!!!
Fantastic reference!! One of my favorite cartoons as a kid.
I love how it only took him 10 seconds to actually get to work. Most youtubers take like 60 seconds
60 seconds if you're lucky!
@@marka4891 true true
Creativity good job man
Man I love having you and Jamie back together in a workshop :D
As an Iranian, I was really surprised that after 600 years, someone was able to make an Iranian sword, but my friend, you started hard work, but the protector of the Iranian sword handle is several pieces and sticks together with some kind of glue.
Alec, You may want to increase the rake (backward slant) on the bracket that holds the handle bars on the scooter. It will make it self-center and make it a little less swervy when you ride it.
First my Steele's 01 pants arrive and then I get another episode of the shamshir... Today is a good day
That's so funny I remember that Dexter episode vividly. Great work Alec keep up the good work.
one thing i personally would love to see is an overview on setting up and maintaining your metal graving tools. i’ve looked into a few online resources and there’s a toooon of information to the point of being a bit overwhelming. i think your channel could do an excellent job of breaking down the relevant information to help beginners get started. i inherited a bunch of high speed steel graving blanks from my aunt and haven’t figured out what i’m doing with them yet lol.
Please don't take this as a personal attack, but as a stonesetter I need to say this: your engraving skills are SHOCKING.
BUT your determination and perseverance is truly inspiring. Keep on the amazing content and keep on learning new skills. This is the way to go!
so good to see you back on the tools again. even thinking of re-subscribing.
Oh Jamie I feel that on so many levels.. I still at 28 say that to my wife all the time. Dexter was on to something with all that sleep study stuff 🤣
Quick tip-----> Next time you try to engrave something pre - scribe the lines you want to engrave manually with a ... you guessed it ... scribe. It will give you a good starting groove to follow. It's the basically the easiest way to give your self a set path for your engraving tool to follow.
One thing I’ve noticed, Alec, is that you are floating your pointer finger, instead of resting it on the work piece as you engrave, to gain greater control over your depth. I’ve never engraved, but as a tattoo artist, the way we rest our fingers on the skin, gives us control over our needle depth. I think letting the tip of your finger ride along the workpiece, as you engrave, might help with the depth variance; stability. Best wishes!
Great job Alec
A true child of the TV age, where expertise can be achieved in a half hour-an hour at most. Enjoy engraving to perfection.
I knew that motor had more beans than we saw in the last video. That’s awesome
I actually quite enjoy my Kove headphones. I bought them a while ago when they were the sponsor and they’ve done well by me. Work especially well canceling constant low noises like a plane engine or a fan
Watching you do this reminds me of the 2 or 3 tines I did linoleum block prints. Only looks like less bandages were needed for your fingers.
The dexters lab clip..
Priceless
Man watching you trying to do this delicate work reminds me of just how complicated the original design was and how much of a good idea it was to simplify it lol
The shout out to Dexter's Lab is perfect!
Kove doesn't offer shipping to the EU. I'd like to support the channel by buying from the sponsors, but a lot of American companies just don't service the 95 % of the world that isn't in their country.
Same here. Wanted sent to Mexico, but they don't do it :'(
No shipping to Germany..... That makes those ads just an annoyance.
Probably because international shipping is expensive from the USA, costs more than the products would lol
@@MineZilla123 Yet shipping into the US isn't a expensive. It's the result of some bad US "balance-of-trade" decisions a few decades ago.
It is a hassle to comply with all EU laws. Like in Germany, you have to register with the government and pay to recycle your shipping materials, why is it the shippers responsibility and not the buyer? Then you now have to put the correct 6 digit code on the customs form, you can't just describe the item any more. And finally just starting last month, we now have to collect and remit VAT for orders, instead of the buyer doing it at the post. So, as a US based shipper, I just discontinued my shipping to the EU as it is too much effort and liability if things go wrong.
Can I just say I LOVE that Jamie pulled out the Dexter's Laboratory reference?
We had those 40-50cc 2-strokes as pit sleds - lot of fun
That looks sooooo awesome!
I can’t wait to see the episode #42 of this series! 😁
You should try forgung tungsten
Ever since I used your kove code years ago, I have been hooked on kove headphones. I'll never use any other headphones! I have the same ones you have there after my old style broke (I dropped them one too many times). It was the first and only time I have ever and likely will ever use a youtuber's plug, since I tend not to buy things, but back then, you got sponsored right at the same time that I needed new headphones.
I short circuited for a second there when I couldn’t tell if I was welcomed back specifically to the workshop, and whether or not it was fantastic to have me there. The winds of change have blown thus. I will diminish, and go into the west…and remain Galadriel.
Yes Jamie, dexters lab reference 👏
Tedious work is always best when you get in the zone
Thank guy for sharing your work.
Am I wrong in this but why is Alec PRACTICING engraving on his final piece???
Pop a ginger pill 30 minutes before a long engraving session - that should keep the motion sickness at bay!
I wonder if you could deep etch a rough design by either chemical or electric means and then clean up the design by hand. Maybe something you could try in a future project.
Great job, looks awesome so far.
Finally new episode
Making the scooter into a moped could be a good idea. It has the perfect layout to build a seat for it.
Every time the music dipped I was thinking Alex was going to make a complete cats balls of it. But then I remembered he’s awesome at his craft.
Truly awesome Alec! Well done
How many episodes do we have until Alec decides to start the guard from scratch ? I'm guessing 2 .
Smaller tools must exist for this type of fine work
Hi Alec, I know this is irrelevant right now but maybe you should think about investing in a laser engraver. It will be a lot more accurate in these kinds of projects. The Chinese machines are almost perfect for the amount of work you do.
Missed these types of projects, keep up the awesome work.
Cheers mate!
Well done so far Alec! 👍😁
When done making the blade and it won't be touched for a while you should oil it or wrap it in plastic wrap to prevent it from rusting. Always better to start working on it again when it has a clean surface rather than rusted.
People dont know how Tuff spring steel leaf is . tools Chizels punches etc - Just get the Tempering right ( Ting )
Springmaker 26yrs ive made Chizels for kickpress swingpress that cut springsteel springs up to 4m/m with a springsteel leaf base . all hardened & temp
only your imgination takes you further . ive also welded springsteel rings to mild steel bars O======o used to coil springs on a lathe
well that was so many years ago .
Alec, I just have to suggest that since there is some time lapses between engraving projects you should make notes on each project so that you have a clear and concise record of what you have discovered works and what fails and why.
You can stop the scooter's engine if you run a wire from the sparkplug wire to a switch that continues the wire to the chassis, just keep in mind on is off and off is one if you use a normal on off switch
I laughed pretty good at “twenty freedoms” lol. Never heard it put that way but I might just have to start using that!
I did find it rather amusing that Alec completely missed the Dexter's Lab reference... Well done Jamie!
Thanks for sharing!
Don't forget to touch mark the blade!
Normally I get pissed off at ad spam in my FB feed but just now while scrolling an advert for your shop popped up as one of the sponsored ads. You can say you have hit the big time now, as you're officially sponsored ad spam on FB. kudos to you good sir keep up the good work.
Everytime I see an upload for this I say oooh shamshsimer schmimitahhh
Oh guy mosh, now show us how it would have been done before power tools. Magnificent work you're doing!
I think you are amazing Alec and I admire you very much. 🥰
Haven't been this early since he was still in Montana
This series makes me want to see Alec make a cossack shashka
