Worked at a bakery for 3 years. Was a great employee, worked very hard, rarely called out and dedicated a lot to the job. I started at 12\hr. After 3 years I was making 15/hr, which doesn’t sound bad except i only got the raise because the minimum wage in my state went up to 15/hr. Soon after I got my raise it hit me, I had been there for 3 years and I was being paid the same as someone who was hired yesterday. I realized I wasn’t happy there and found a new job in a different field a few months later and I’m happier.
happens everywhere else. unfortunately. even when you raise it, they would ask 'why should i?" even when you've been doing/ covering for their ''shortage of manpower", etc. "look, i'm not gonna do your managerial job for you...when i won't be getting part of your pay for it."
I hope you didn't. I hope that you didn't do any sort of job that deals with the public. You will loathe people and never want to be around the general public ever again.
Mine was when I worked my ass off for a promotion everyone thought I deserved only to be denied because I wasn't social enough. We had a "no non-work related talking" policy in effect. Promotion went to bosses brown noser. I stopped trying the day it was announced and they are still upset I'm not breaking my back anymore.
I started off this year into my first full time work after graduating last year. I was initially hopeful that I would progress enough to earn extra bonuses on top of my minimum wage job if I just worked hard enough. Well that didn't go well at all, because after 2 months follow July when I started to get more serious, I had burn out and there wasn't any of the promises of the extra bonuses being delivered, on top of the fact that I have to work in customer service that requires anatomy knowledge & treatment. I just realised that my boss doesn't really care and I'm not paid enough to handle some grumpy patients who will pick beef with even the slightest signs of frustration I display. So for now I'm going to continue till end of this year, then I'll do something completely different.
Not even a month into a new job. I was excited to start because of the company's history and the inspiring reason why the founder made it. After starting, I learned that the founder sold the company years ago. Now it's owned by one of those rich, real estate guys that was a millionaire already and says whatever he wants because he doesn't give a damn. And that's not even the problem. The problem is he will use the bathroom we all share, not flush and leave a trail of piss all over the floor. And this was something I was warned about early, so this is just tolerated behavior. If the owner has that little regard for the health, hygiene, and safety of the people that keep this place running. If I didn't need the money, I would've quit already. It's just a check as I actively seek out my next move.
I work at a Jiffy Lube in my hometown and my boss eventually became a jerk. He would always have moments where he was mad at everyone. One day someone didn’t put a tool back in the right spot and he noticed and he got mad and said “I shouldn’t have hired you guys in the first place.” Yeah needless to say I went from “proud employee” to “I’m just here for the paycheck” real fast
I had a job that was 85 miles away, each way and in another time zone. The pay was good..$700-1k a week after taxes. I did move close to work. They put me at a job no one wanted and I excelled at it...and then they started changing everything about it,and on a daily basis to the point I could no longer keep up. I would bring components to areas that weren't working, hence I only had to bring them stuff once during my shift...I think they were purposely changing over to put more work on me! I had one lady on another shift who it didn't matter how much stuff I brought her,it wasn't enough!...if I did bring her enough, they'd shut down her cell,or change over to the other part she made, and want me to take back everything and bring her other stuff...mind you I had another 30 assembly cells to stock as well as all the components and hardware I delivered.
Read a Tom Clancy book many years ago. Hunt for Red October(?). Anyway, a phrase stuck with me. "As long as they pretend to pay us, we will pretend to work." Still read Clancy.
When the owner proved that he wouldn't let the company grow or have good things. He'd inherited the company and was coasting to retirement, letting the revenue go from $15MM to $8MM over 15 years. In the 2 years I was there we brought in more customers and I didn't get any commissions. At that point, I started scheduling business travel to see friends and also got a 2nd job I was doing from my office.
I still like my job, but there was one moment where I where I decided to take things easy when I could. It was after the busiest event of the year and it was clean up time. There were literal miles of this special fence we set up so the grounds aren't destroyed. It's a four person job to take them down, and I was the only one who actually did the work. It took way longer than it was supposed to and I had cuts all over my arm because of the way you have to take it down. The other employees showed up when I was basically done and my boss did nothing. I've also had to clean human feces and clean all the bathrooms because they refuse to hire a janitor. I like my job, it's just day like this where I really don't care for anything except the $.
Not me, but my brother; The store manager, him (shift mamager), and the other shift manager were pulled into and literally interigated for stealing booze. Like, actual interigation. From company loss prevention. The worst was they lied. They lied that there were cameras were everywhere. There weren't. The security system that WAS SUPPOSE to go to the store went to another store. Which was why people were able to sneak in a STEAL the booze in the first place. They made the other shift manager cry. They've all left. But still remain friends. It actually made them friends.
I currently work as a bank teller. The bank had an opening for a staff accounting position in January which I had all the requirements for. I applied for it figuring that at the very least I would get a courtesy interview out of respect or some sort of loyalty to their employees. Keep in mind not the job itself because that I believe would make me entitled for the position, which I wasn’t. There’s a step between getting a job and getting an interview and I felt that I at least was at the step of getting the interview. The thing is, I didn’t even get the interview. So I waited and another staff accounting position opened up in August and I got the interview this time. The position was filled some time during the second week of September and I didn’t receive the news that I wasn’t picked for the promotion until October. It almost feels like they only gave me an interview the second time because they didn’t want my morale to go in the shitter. Well it fuckin did, assholes.
I applied for a position at a company I was already working at. Went to the conference room at the appointed time. No one showed up. I give everyone 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes as I'm heading back, I hear my name announced over the loudspeaker: "Mike Simion! Where are you? We need you back at your station!"
I met a highschool girl that makes $4/hr more than I do. I build "fine homes & custom cabinetry", she's an optician's assistant. I'm 48 yrs old. My only Christmas bonus EVER was last year... it was a jar of jelly. Srsly.
I know. One time our manager gave us a bag of candy with a $5 Subway gift card as a Christmas bonus. I spoke outwardly about my disappointment; and, was fired!

Been working for a year at a construction company, currently at 17.75/hr.boss tells me that he wants me to kinda be a mini foreman/supervisor for my coworkers. A guy who can’t even speak English and is our newest hire is getting 18/hr.

I'm pretty sure the for profit college guy worked for Full Sail University. It sounds exactly like it. I had the time and resources to focus solely on my degree and I STRUGGLED. The anxiety was so bad my doctor actually told me to quit because my blood pressure was way too high for someone not even in their 20s yet at the time. If anyone is considering it, don't let the first month or two of piddly work fool you, by month 4 you're in some deep shit.
When they gave the management position of my section to someone I trained who’d only been there for three months (I’ve been there for two years) just because she was friends with the new manager who hated me because she would change the schedule without telling me and then get mad when I wouldn’t show up.... I quit soon after Also I was already doing all the management jobs for my section anyway, training everyone, receiving shipments and making sure everything was ok....yeah also I had to train her
I was supervisor at a certain job. It was a shit job but the work mates made the shitty job fun. But once I noticed I had no support from my boss I just stopped caring all together
Shocks me that ppl in America do jobs for $8/hr. My first job ever I was making $14.70/hr I was 15 and they upped the min. Wage here to like 15 or 16 dollars. Pretty shocking to me.
16:52) technically you aren’t even supposed to clean that, by law because throw up, fecal matter and urine is considered a biohazard and should not be cleaned without the proper equipment or by a professional biohazard cleaning team so you should’ve just refused and if she asked you to clean it again you should’ve walked, that’s my opinion
When the management messed with hours and disrespectful that was before the recent management came but it is hard when the team leader blames people for things that she broke is it any wonder why no one was sad when she left and I heard that she quit after 2 more transfers to other stores but I had a feeling that the new district managers fired her since she was protected by the management when I first started
I used to work at a factory helped set the quota understand how many rolls of product could be produced within a certain amount of time to create a standard. one of the days I was frustrated a third shift supervisor who was working overtime for first shift stated we don't pay you for 110% and my over standard production became standard production for any of those thinking he did that to make his shift look better shifts weren't totaled to see who looked better it was total amount of rolls at the end of the week so him saying that hurt his bonus
You should never train a person for a position you dont have. If you are an assistant manager you cnat train a manager to be. Only a manager could train a manager, especially if they refused you for that position.
