I'm one of those people who just don't like the feel of FRN, and prefer G10. I do wish they'd put a better steel in the G10 version and yes, I agree with those who say it's pricey for what you get.
I've owned and carried a dragonfly daily for 4 years now. The Salt, ZDP-189, and the VG-10 with g10. If you are going to be using this knife daily to cut down boxes, open packages and pallets, the steel liner makes a huge difference on durability and overall lifespan of the tool. I find that over time everything becomes loose in the FRN handles.
Gotta agree! While I don’t love frn, I still recognize it’s durability and it’s fine. But the g10 fly just feels much more solid and substantial which makes it well worth the extra $. Personally I’m fine with vg10. I maintain whatever blade I’m carrying and tbh, I’ve never noticed a HUGE difference between steels. One of my most carried knives has been a sanrenmu 7010.. cost me $7 and Despite definitely being a low grade steel, it’s never let me down and I can bring it back to shaving sharp in no time at all.. I mean maybe five mins max. The better steels just take a couple extra swipes to get there.
@@jseden Couldn't agree more. Almost 6 years now and I still use it to break down 100s of boxes and orders daily. Sharpen takes like 10 minutes maybe a night. If im lazy it'll work a week straight no sharpening. Same knife it's a beautiful tool.
@@Ryan0Gray right on. That's about how long I've had my current one.. I totally understand it but that doesn't make the endless steel obcessing and judging knives based on "sv35 vs m390 vs sv45 vs whatever" less ridiculous.. like I said, I do get it, but be real.. 99% of the participants are never gonna do more than slice some paper for the camera, maybe sharpen a stick. Any of them are well beyond fine for Normal use but based on the forums, you'd think that anything less than sv35 and the blade is just gonna fall off after opening a letter.
One of my all time favorite knives right here! I’ve owned a bunch of dragonflies, two were this version. I’ve mostly moved onto carrying a sebenza but my little green dragonfly is still always handy at home.
The fact that this comment was made FOUR YEARS AGO cracks me up. They recently doubled the price of all their knives.... and this comment was made long before that happened. I wonder how you feel about their prices now.
Got the FRN version a couple weeks ago. I love it, but it has already developed up and down blade play. I’d love to see one with FRN but with minimal steel liners. I think I’m gonna try the g10 model and dye it.
Funny how Spydie feels cheaper or less solid as frn, but the butterfly knife company plays up the frn as a back packers blade, an increase in effectiveness due to less weight and more springiness. Words are funny things, for some people they actually mean something, to others not so much, just my ranting this early Sunday morning!
Almost 5 years later and I just received 2 Draginfly2's in limited-edition Sprint Run three-layer laminate blade with an Aogami Super Blue tool steel core and SUS410 stainless steel outer layers. Blue Zome scales
Thanx Nick for the cool review...I just ordered one and can't wait for it to come in. I also have the frn chaparral but thinking bout getting raffir noble or cf. Take care.
I agree; owning both at one point I felt like I had to sell the DF2 as their overall place in my (very small) collection was the same. They felt similar in the pocket, but the ergonomics, steel, blade length, and overall F&F win on the Chap. Also, the FRN on the Chap felt softer and less plastic than the DF2, but to some, plastic is plastic and that wouldn't matter.
So has benchmade 2 reasons better steal and steal is getting more expensive and also they are higher priced because they built a good name brand and are using it to their advantage
For 2 ounces in a tiny form factor... why not get the byrd Robin 2 in titanium? Vg-10 isn't THAT much better than 8cr, you can custom ano the titanium, and it's half the price.
I swapped a S30V blade from a pink dragonfly 2 into my G10 and the only way it would work was to also swap the lock bars (keeping the matching bars and blades together). But, the action is not the same. I use my dragonfly as an edc user and not as a fidget toy. So for me, I hope it just wears in a bit with use.
The G10 has actual screws it looks like rather than pins holding the scales in place. And it looks like steel liners? Or maybe I'm deluded... At any rate maybe that has impacts on dimensions and means blade swaps are not working?
I tried to blade swap a hap40 blade into the g-10 frame and it doesn't fit, the blades are slightly different shapes and the lock bar is also slightly longer.
Hey Nick, I just found a knife maker online, who makes really nice looking knives, and I’d like to ask if you could review one. I dropped by his shop and picked one up and so far so good. I will warn that the knives can get quite pricey, but they are all custom made folders, and fixed blades. The name of his website is Sangster knives and they are made in the US. He uses high quality metal, gold plated screws, titanium, mammoth tooth, and much more for materials. Anyways, thanks and keep doing what you’re doing.
I need a super steel for my dragonfly, whaaa. Steel snobs are getting more snobbery. Like the color of the g 10. Very solid feel and cool color. But going the way of the delica, extinct.
I just don't think it's worth nearly double the price for the same steel. Also, as a fellow lactose intolerant individual, I say keep up the good fight against that most evil of dairy sugars, and you were my inspiration for beginning to EDC several packets of lactaid because #screwlactose. Saved my ass (quite literally) at Disney world a couple of weeks ago.
You cant forget this is an "old knife" g10 dragonlyfly been out for years, before others with better steels had existed. Now its more like a novelty and to compete should be upgraded with steel but dont forget its older and used to be less expensive
Great vid as always, and I agree, for my uses the FRN is ideal for this particular knife. I carry a SE version clipped the corner of my back pocket. As a secondary knife it adds alot of utility to my EDC, and goes completely unnoticed in the pocket until I'm ready to use it.
Spyderco needs to move all seki city knives to cos steel. That stuff is fucking great. The best non powder steel ever! Even better than most powder steels.
Dude could you please use grams for weight I have never heard of an ounce. Or at the very least measure things in hogs feet and use hogs feet for weight too
Sooo sick of seeing so many spidies on every reviewers site. I know, it’s cuz they’re so good. But they are so overpriced I will never buy one, thus my frustration.

The FRN/G10 upgrade are nice on these knives! Will pick up one of these two most likely.
The Dragonfly is nice to carry in gym shorts, or in light khaki pants, when you don't want one side of your pants being weighed down by a heavy knife.
I just bought a benchmade bugout for exactly that purpose
Could I blade swap with the G10 version and a random dragonfly with an exotic steel? Are they identical blade widths?
Uh oh, Nick must be on vacation again. You know we’re in the backlog when the Lil Native “just arrived today”.
One of my all time favorite knives right here! I’ve owned a bunch of dragonflies, two were this version. I’ve mostly moved onto carrying a sebenza but my little green dragonfly is still always handy at home.
I own probably 50 Spyderco knives, but they have really jumped the shark on their out of control pricing.
They know suckers like you will keep buying another 50 regardless. I love spydies myself, but I’ve started buying them in the second hand market.
@@thui7889 if you’re broke just say that
@Zuirsebas Ruiz its not about broke but efficient wirh your money. I make great money and I buy them second hand
In 2023, Benchmade says “hold my beer Spyderco, I’ll show you how to really hike prices”
The fact that this comment was made FOUR YEARS AGO cracks me up. They recently doubled the price of all their knives.... and this comment was made long before that happened. I wonder how you feel about their prices now.
My Salt Dragonfly has the bright yellow FRN which I dyed into a pattern of greens. Worked great!
Some great points. Been going back and forth between the lil Native and the G10 Dragonfly. Ah the decisions 😊
Damn you answered my question in less than 2min in. A zdp-189 blade swap.....damn oh well. Awesome video.
Got the FRN version a couple weeks ago. I love it, but it has already developed up and down blade play. I’d love to see one with FRN but with minimal steel liners. I think I’m gonna try the g10 model and dye it.
My favorite little knife! I am completely happy with mine.
Zdp is actually my favorite edc steel. If they made a g10 with zdp I’d buy it without hesitation.

Hey Nick what’s better the crkt razel or the sanrenmu 7046
Thanx Nick for the cool review...I just ordered one and can't wait for it to come in. I also have the frn chaparral but thinking bout getting raffir noble or cf. Take care.
Really nice spyderco knife design looks,
For $90, prefer the better steel XHP Chaparral....yes FRN but G10 is not worth it to me.
Agreed. Or the zdp dragonfly but I do prefer the chappy over that even.
I was seriously consider buying a Dragonfly, until I got a Chaparral.

I have one. A bit small for me, but it's so good it's staying in the collection

Knife Noob - no matter what the steel, someone will say "I wish it came in xxx."
Did you get a new camera?
I do much prefer the look of the g10 version. Hard choice, and I could see getting both.
I just don't think it's worth nearly double the price for the same steel. Awesome review buddy looks like a great knife
The G10 Spyderco is an earlier model. Think it came out a long time before the zdp
Has anyone tried swapping one of the new K390 blades into the G10 setup?
I really like this Dragonfly more than the FRN version it would be cool if they made a G10 Delica🤔🤔
g-10 delica with a front finger choil would be amazing
Jake Welsh, Yeah it would! I’d buy one
They made a short run of delica with this same color g10, but they are hard to find.
They have a dealer exclusive red G10 in hap40 steel, the dealer is ST. Nick's Knife Works.
Hmmmm how to get one of these in k390
I used the d fly everyday literally. It’s great.
uses $150 screwdriver. thinks G10 version is too expensive
I'll spend the extra on a ZDP189 upgrade instead...
Reid Cruickshank the zdp-189 version is $20 less
Hold your horses! Where can lil native be found for 105?
...must have them all...
As usual a spot on review.... yo mamma say yo good, yo good
Spyderco needs to move all seki city knives to cos steel. That stuff is fucking great. The best non powder steel ever! Even better than most powder steels.
You held on to that review for little bit. The prices have moved upwards a little bit since then
robert collins crazy!
Yeah, this was an antique.
Bruh, are you not wearing the Batman mask? I could have sworn there was a semi-face reveal here.
I have all of them!
ZDP-189's corrosion resistance really bothers me.
Right now it's $119 and, to me, that's just ridiculous. That's the same price of a lot of bigger, S30V G10 models.
dam nick you can do this in your sleep par exelance
with G-10 and VG-10 it should be called the Delica-10
I think I would go with the cheaper one, more for your $👍
Dude could you please use grams for weight I have never heard of an ounce. Or at the very least measure things in hogs feet and use hogs feet for weight too
👍👍👍👍👍
You get up to early for a Sunday!
90 euro for a Dragonfly....

Is it me or his voice hard to listen to?
The Salt II version is Suderco's only useful knife.
Jack Nemo 10-4 on the salt ll
For the H1 over the VG10?
I don’t know much about H1.
"Suderco's"
It's garbage. The lockback develop play after mild use. Get a pm2.
