I think the best thing this movie did was introducing the Golden Frieza form to make later Frieza a beliavable fighter for the Universal survival arc. Can't say anything else positive.
Agreed, but if would have been better if both the Golden form and SSB were saved for later in the show. It would have given Frieza more time to train and make it look like less of an ass pull, and it would make blue look like a significant power up.
Battle of The Gods: "WE WANT MORE PUNCHING AND LESS COMEDY!" Resurrection F: "NOW THERE'S TOO MUCH PUNCHING! WHERE'S THE DEVELOPMENT?!" DBS Broly: The Perfect Balance.
@@Gardetrace Totally disagree. A important part in DB movies is a fight. Broly fight is important because the movie spends it's first act building the relation between Goku, Vegeta and Broly. Broly attacks Vegeta first because of the hate Paragus builted into him. Resurrection F is ONLY about the fights.
Resurrection F has one of my favorite exchanges in all of Dragon Ball. Vegeta: "I'm going to send you back to hell where you belong." Freeza: "Your threats are as empty as your title. All hail Vegeta, Prince of No One."
Yeah. I mean watching the Earth explode was pretty dope. They should've just altered the time rewind (if they really need it) to just be a bit longer as to give goku time to tell Vegeta to end it now. Or have goku ki blast Frieza's hand and yell to finish it now. Vegeta ending the tyrants reign would've been a great factor in Vegeta's character arc and redemption story. But Tori hates him.
There was no winning with the time rewind thing. By telling the audience that Whis can do that, you kill all tension immediately. By not telling the audience and pulling it out of nowhere you make it look like something that was made up last second. Also, I never thought about the fact that the movie should have totally focused on Frieza and his training instead of Goku and Vegeta.
Then just don't do the dumb time travel ending. That part only existed because the writer(s) decided to just steal the win from Vegeta, because it makes no sense that Goku can react to Frieza from farther away and kill him faster than someone standing right in front of him. The only other time I can think of Whis using time travel was when Zamasu tried to kill Gowasu, and even then you don't need it because it's obvious as all hell that he's about to murder him. Why else would he sneak up on him behind and turn his hand into an energy sword? To cut him a slice of cake?
@@TheAzulmagia i think its more of even if they DIDNT tell it at all in the films. theres also super which retells the 2 movies and then goes to the next couple of arcs. and whis uses the temporal rewind in the goku black arc. meaning with that reveal years later the reveal that whis has that in the first place means whis could have done that in the movie or in the arc version. literally the only way to prevent that is to basicly either a have the gods and angels not get into any affairs of mortals at all (meaning they can literally do nothing. not even train them) or not have the characters show up ever again. just have them for battle of gods and thats it
I thought this was about the gods realizing their involvement was inevitable. I never go into a Dragon Ball Film expecting a full narrative arc. Is that a bad thing?
My headcanon is that Vegeta won. My man was snubbed of a win he fully deserved to have. I just pretend that the whole rewinding time thing didn't happen and that it ended right when Vegeta went in for that attack.
"too much time was spent on comedy" Its not even comedy but character interaction. When BoG came out we hadn't seen any of these characters in anything official in years. Seeing these characters again after so many years interacting with each other like actual humans was what the fans needed.
Yes exactly. Seeing the Z Warriors back together interacting with each other for the first time since the 90’s was great - seeing it in theaters was even better.
In terms of story, I felt as though Revival of F needed to be darker. It should have been about Vegeta and how he could never become the fighter that he wanted to become because even after Frieza was dead, Vegeta was still in many ways living in his shadow. The story alone would have been better showing this. I'm still to this day mad at the fact that it wasn't Vegeta who killed Frieza at the end of the movie. Vegeta really needed this win and with killing Frieza he would have finally been the one to avenge the death of his fallen race. Toryama though is not interested in writing complex stories so of course Goku always wins.
I was thinking the same thing. Vegeta has more motivation and reason as to why he should kill Freeza than Goku. Dude just cock blocked him over his rightful kill - like a bad gamer move.
Hell I wish piccolo would get a damn power boost already preferably without fusion. The fact his race created the dragonball balls and actually could produce fairly strong fighters means his growth in power should be close to both goku and vegeta. He should not be so far below them and he certainly should not be below gohan who literally is not a fighter by any means. Gohan had a great moment of power with cell but he only fought cell because he needed to. Honestly though I think the sayians hair color shit ruined any real chance for any character to actually be relevant. I say hair color because I refuse to call them forms since my idea of forms is anything that is not hair die.
SquaficleDude pretty much piccolos treatment along with tien. Back in the namak saga we got introduced to the piccolos race who had some fighters with nail literally stronger than Vegeta from the sayian saga. With that in mind pluse they created the dragon balls they should have a just as much battle potential as the sayians. Piccolo was already close to goku in terms of power at the beginning of the Android saga and he didn’t need to transform to fight the androids were goku and vegeta had to.
Beerus assured Freeza that he takes no sides in this battle, yet Whis intervenes in the end and rewinds time in order to help Goku and the gang survive and beat Freeza.... WHAT THE HELL?! Just completely undermined Beerus' word as a destroyer.
If I was to rewrite this movie, it would be about Frieza and Vegeta, both striving towards the same goal of surpassing Goku. We'd see them both training to overcome him in their own ways, and they would end up crossing paths midway through the film. They would fight desperately, with Frieza just barely taking the win. Instead of sensibly killing Vegeta on the spot, however, Frieza would keep him alive to torment later. The Frieza Force then descends on the Earth, proving a good deal more capable this time around. Frieza has won, and all that remains is crushing Goku. However, the power of his SSG form gives Goku a clear advantage over Frieza. Goku wins outright, but then he allows the villain to flee, and is sniped from afar after powering down. Vegeta, meanwhile, had escaped his captivity, and emerges from the ship just in time to witness Goku fall. He rushes to him, angry and afraid, but is met with just a week apology. Vegeta transforms into a Super Saiyan and turns to face Frieza, battered but defiant. Frieza sneers and prepares a death ball to wipe out the both of them, and likely the planet too. Goku channels God mode once more, and grasps Vegeta, enfusing him with a portion of divine ki. And as Vegeta thinks of his loved ones, and all his struggles through the years, something sparks within him, and he attains Super Saiyan Blue. And with this newfound power, he rushes straight through the death ball and completely obliterates Frieza in a single blow.
To me that Goku caught off guard scene is done so poorly for a few things. One as a 12 year old kid Goku OFF GUARD tanked not only a sniper bullet to the head but a FULL RPG, like he was not prepped for it at all and it hit him right in the face and he was completely fine and that was before he learned all he knew about ki that he does now just his body was that tough & it should be MASSIVELY TOUGHER from all the years of Gravity Training he did on top of his innate durability. Its like what happened between Krillin & Perfect Cell. Cell just transformed not even in flexing his ki just completely relaxed, no guard up, while Krillin is punching as hard as possible to damage him. But even while he was surpressing his new unknown power, the power he was outputting while being surpressed completely outclassed Krillin. And I know theres a filler joke scene of Goku gettin hit by a rock but it was just a silly one off joke sorta like Saitama getting actually hurt by that little cat he was petting we know he tanks worse on a daily basis and is fine. I know the purpose was to show Goku needs to always keep his guard up but havin such a wimpy lazer do it was lame, its like saying that Lazer could shoot beams like King Piccolo who busted cities, Or they couldve acknowledged that the lazer was like a mini death star in your pocket, or just have frieza do it. TLDR: That lazer scene was lame AF and couldve been done much better.
I guess if you just assume the laser was weak for no reason I could see why you'd have an issue with it. Not sure why you would, laser beams are notoriously powerful in Dragon Ball, they just pierce anything, just like how disks ignore defenses despite insane power gaps. And yeah they should've emphasised it's power beforehand, like maybe it was Friezas ki in it or something.
@@jarlbalgruuf2415 You do know Cells neck tanked a Destructo disk right? And Goku when facing Frieza when he could barely defend himself was taking beam shots to the body with repetition.
@retsaM innavoiG so there WAS a detailed explanation for the lasers power, why the confusion with OP then? I mean cyborgs stronger than super saiyans were made with earth materials alone, it's completely valid for someone to do that at a much higher scale with galaxies
It never made sense to me how Gohan still had defined muscle mass and could go SSJ2 after a 7-year gap, but he lost a lot it and couldn't transform right between the Buu arc and this.
There is like a five year gap between buu and this film. I am with you that it makes lesser sense in the films since gohan was still muscled in BoG and RF is like one year later. Super removed ultimate gohan in its BoG adaptation. It could also be AT’s tendency to draw skinny people nowadays.
When he lived at home with his mom he spent his free time training. Now in charge of a household and with a job that he enjoys enough to spend his excess time on, but requires primarily for him to sit down, he’s lost his physics fitness
@@agerard6297 It isn't Toriyama, the newer anime studios just have something against drawing overly muscular people for some reason. Just look at my boy Cabba, favorite DBS character but no muscle at all despite being a super sayain.
The ending of this movie and the arc should have been....Vegeta kills Frieza ! Frieza stole Vegeta childhood, made him into a vilain and enslaved him and his people...it would have been cathartic to end him by his maker...Goku avenged the sayian people, Vegeta should have avenged himself, closing a scar once and for all !!
Are you speaking about the funimation dub bs about Freeza corrupting Vegeta or are you feeling the movie rewrite things and have Freeza be responsible for vegeta’s villainy?
Frieza didn't make Vegeta a villain. The sayijans were villains already. Especially Vegeta's father and Vegeta. Vegeta was a genocidal sadistic maniac. Frieza didn't turn him into one, he was one already, and a proud one at that. I don't get this narrative of him deserving "revenge". Revenge for what? He was a terrible evil being who got in the hands of somebody more powerful than him. It's mere karma. It's what was right. There is no revenge Vegeta either deserves nor needs especially considering HIS victims never got THEIR revenge. Fanboys reaaaally fail to see this simple concept of ying and yang. And it's what prevents them from enjoying the series and the character as they always feel like something is not done right. The character IS what happens to him in the story, you don't get to pick what you accept and what not to accept for him. That is up to the writers. If we talk about it pragmatically, what Vegeta TRULY deserves is to be in hell or in some form of cosmic jail. Instead, he is enjoying a life of luxury while also beating more opponents than the protagonist (seriously, make a list please), but yet fanboys still have the gull to protest Goku and somehow feel the entitlement to dictate what "should have happend" , it's sad and funny at the same time
The movie should have been centered around Frieza. He is ressurected, rushes through training clearly making mistakes, gathers his forces and invades Earth. The earthlings are a good match for his massive army and he has to step in. Goku and Vegeta are brought to Earth by some funny gag with Beerus and Whis, maybe Bulma throwing them a party. They sneak away and the main fight begins. Ssj blue is revealed, goku loses in the same way, Vegeta gets the win. Then Super's resurrection F arc shows the story behind how Goku and Vegeta get Blue and Whis finding out their weaknesses.
Goku: Hey Freeza! Freeza: What? Goku: Knock Knock! Freeza: Who's there? Goku: Cardiac Arrest. Freeza: Cardiac Arrest whOOOOUUUGHHHAAAA- Beerus: *Nom nom* This Ice cream is delicious. I also like the strawberries. Whis: Lord Beerus, i think I should Also eat something.
artistichocochipcookie lmfao I would love to hear Goku, in a raging state, make that joke. It would be a relatively dark but funny moment depending on how brutal the blow looks.
@@cityguard4847 In abridged: Goku: "Wanna hear a joke?" Freeza "Fine, I'll indulge" Goku: "Grape pills!" Freeza "What??" Goku: "Oh yeah! Oopsies!" *simultaneous with one-inch punch* "Knock knock" Freeza: Roblox oof Goku: "Awww I messed up the punch line" Freeza: *Groans* Not sure how they'd handle beerus and whis given they don't really have well established personas in abridged. Edit: Ohhh heeeyyyy, MasakoX commented below!
Use SSG, get beat up, someone dies, then turn SSB, then Vegeta comes in with SSG when Frieza is weak bc Goku gets knocked out from a tiny little laser, planet blows up, Whis rewinds time, Vegeta tries to finish Frieza off before he tries to blow up the planet, Somehow Frieza lives and escapes and trains to become stronger, and Vegeta feels guilty about not being able to kill off Frieza, *THE END*
Eh, technically, they did. Saiyan beyond God equates to the level of ssg. Then again, I still agree. Ssg deserved more respect. I hate to see my favorite form be reduced to uselessness so quickly.
I did this fix a while ago... DB Ressurrection of F fix: Main idea: This should be a Vegeta movie. Goku has nothing to do with Freeza anymore, but Vegeta does. This fix presume you had already watched the movie. Act I- Vegeta and Goku: Vegeta and Goku are sparring with Beerus in that planet. While fighting, Beerus tries to hang Vegeta with his tail. Then it cuts to a flashback of Freeza doing the exact thing to the Sayan Prince. Because of this, he snaps, scarring Goku and Beerus, who imediately stops the fight. Sorbet: Nothing really changes to him, he does the same thing. Let's revive Freeza!!! The rest of the gang: Everyone is fine, thanks. Act II- Freeza is back!!!! Vegeta and Goku: Whiz (i think this is his name), noticed Vegeta's odd behaviour and lead him to a corner to talk. DB isn't a psychology yard, and this whole melodramatic talk about the past don't suit the over the top tone of the anime, so we need to be subtle. However I don't know how to subtle so.... Whiz makes Vegeta talk a little about his past; I'm not sure how this would need to be, but I know how it ends: Bulma calls Whiz to pass her dessert recipes (This happened in the original), in the conversation, Vegeta sees his wife with Trunks and his little daughter in this call and interact with them; having this little wholesome moment shows how Vegeta isn't this angry, insecure Freeza warrior anymore; he has a family now, and it come a long way to become a better person. Freeza: Like in the movie, he aknowledges that he need to be stronger, so he humble down a bit, and starts to take training seriously. Now it comes to a place I'm not sure how to handle. I thought this before the DBS came out, and i'm ready to ignore all this Super cannon and mentally build MY own cannon: Freeza goes to his home planet to seek for help. There are more capable people to make a sample of what Freeza's race really are, but let's focus on one person, a warrior Cooler than Freeza, If Vegeta is hot headed, this man is cooler (Yeah it's Cooler). When I started to write this in Friday, I searched about this movie to give me ideas, and I came across this. It's cannon for me now, Cooler is the untalented, hardowork bastard, while Freeza is like Gaara, that with little training, is a beast. Anyway, Cooler and Freeza starts to train togheter (maybe under the supervision of an Elder of their race that could be a villain later). Note: Addressing this materpiece. One soldier asks Freeza at the beggining of the movie about the afterlife and freeza kills him, talking about how horrible was hell, like he has PTSD (this scene will be addressed later). Act III- The battle and the Cooler problem Freeza- He goes to earth bringing all his army, the problem is Cooler, my idea is to make Freeza fight Vegeta, while Cooler fights Goku in the background, however this would distract to much of the movie and drag this too much, I ain't no dragger. SO the solution is: No Cooler in the battle, but he can appear in my alternative DBS series, or better, be nod as a late villain to the series. The battle part 1- Knowing his armed forces can beat the Z fighters, Freeza tell his soldiers to attack the city while his elite picks the stronger Z fighters. The fights are: Uninmportant cartel Yamcha, Tenshihan, Jabu Trunks and Gotenks vs The Freeza army. This is a excuse to show cool battle scenes as they try to stop them to save regular humans. Mid fight: Let's assume all Freeza's henchman received power-ups to at least, follow the Z-fighters. Kuririn vs Sorbet Piccolo vs that red guy. Gohan vs that other guy he fights in the anime series. This fights serve to give everyone screen time, showing their badasses moments. Main event: Cooler vs Goku (maybe) Freeza vs Vegeta. Impatiant with his army failures Freeza decides to attack, Gohan tries to blast Freeza after transforming into a Super Sayajin, no effect. That is when Vegeta appears. Freeza initially dismisses Vegeta, because it's Goku he wants. Years earlier, this would make Vegeta mad, but now this has no effect on him, Freeza's attempt of a sucker punch fails. This first part we see a mirror of the fight in Namek, but the twist is that Vegeta doesn't loses his mind. He keeps cool headed (not cooler than Cooler but you get my point) and keeps Freeza in check, carefully attacking, waiting for openings and etc. This is Vegeta as his best, to close this first part of the fight, Freeza hangs Vegeta with his tail (like previsously mentioned) stating: "Nothing changed Vegeta", however our hero isn't shaken, he gets out of the imobilization and counters Freeza with vicious combos, throwing Freeza at the ground. Act IV- The end Freeza transforms. Now the fight has his turning point, the evil emperor starts gaining ground, soon it becomes one sided, with Vegeta getting beaten up, this ends with, again, Freeza hanging Vegeta with his tail "Nothing really changed Vegeta". When all seems lost, Trunks, coming back after defeating Freeza's henchmen, hits with a flyier in freezas face. Vegeta falls in the ground, his son can't stand against Freeza and it's easly neutralized. But then something happens, Bulma, that was watching from behind, jumps to save Vegeta and Trunks, she doesn't have a chance, she is just a human, but here is the beauty, at least for me, of this scene: It isn't the classic scene of the hero saving his loved one, but the contrary, his family saving him. Vegeta always pushed everyone out of his life and relied only on himself, but now he knows why he fights, his family is his strengh, his pillar. The Saiyan prince, in the past, perceived this as weakness, having a lovely family takes away his ruthless warrior persona, but having someone protecting your back, sacrificing his safety even knowing they aren't the strongest fighter, this is truth bravery and strengh. He retribues this by making his last charge, he turns the table and beats Freeza. (exposition about how this forms drains Freeza's strengh) Freeza makes his last, desesperate attempt, he makes a huge energy ball and throws at earth, to destroy it. Vegeta, responds doing his signature move, final flash. Freeza is winning the duel, vegeta is tired, beloow him is his family, if he fails everything is lost (let's forget about the Dragonballs for a moment). But then Trunks helps, using his power, even Bulma with her laser gun makes the symbolic effort. Freeza is defeated for good. Act IV- Aftermatch Everyone is happy, vegeta have his reunion with his family all ends well when it ends well. The last scene, of course, it is this.
@@evanlight671 Yeah, Caulifla and Gotenks are the only one that don't change, I'm not saying there are bad (I actually like them) and I don't mind that at some point (and by that I mean I don't mid Goten, Trunks and Caulifla but with Goku, the character that transformations are about the change the characters go through is just weird).
Hey, Goten and Trunks did not go Super Saiyan for the first time when they were introduced. Have you forgotten Trunks' future when he went ss for the first time when Gohan died?
6:54 "Don't make me laugh". I heard that, and it may be stupid but I loved the fact you have the confidence to say that. I know that, like many other UA-camrs, you started out quite shy, and seeing you say that with that much confidence is really wholesome in a certain way. I'm glad you're happy right now, and to anyone reading this, I hope you have a beautiful life.
The saddest thing about this is, they totally gave Frieza the spa treatment in Super (and rightfully so, it was brilliant). But for Christ sake give Vegeta a moment!
10:02 FUCKING THANK YOU! FINALLY! That's why I loved ssj4 so much, Goku got more primal and animalistic with the transformation. You could see it in his attitude, the way he talked, faught, ect. It had an ACTUAL change to his character everytime he used it. SSJGSSJ is hands down THE WORST form in the series.
I actually do have an issue with Frieza getting so strong in such a short time. Buu Saga Goku was already vastly stronger than Frieza, and then SSB Goku is billions of times stronger than that, SSG, a weaker variant, being described as stronger than Goku could ever get in his life. And yet Frieza catches up in just 4 months. It's totally ludicrous. It also raises the issue of all Frieza's race having apparently never trained because there should logically be a bunch of them vastly stronger than Jiren running around.
Animusx Arcanum It depends on how you look at it. BoG adds more to the universe of Dragonball. Showing that there is WAY more than just what we knew. There are Gods, and Goku can become one. Broly expands upon what we know. Showing that not all Saiyans are bad, but in no way are they “good” either. I love Broly’s new character. I love how it was HIS movie. And I love his interactions with other characters. In F, I find a rekindled love for Frieza. One that EXPLODES in his reintroduction in the Anime before the Universe Survival Arc.
Gamer Boy then explain Super: Broly. In fact not just that, explain Vegeta throughout the DB manga and BoG. Or you can point to interview that confirms this
John Smith look dude he did say in a interview that he hated Vegeta and only brought him back on popular demand and he did tried to make Gohan the main character but even he is not that bad at writing to know it wasn’t gonna work (watch mark’s video on Gohan for more detail) and Piccolo he probably just wants to see him happy because that’s the life he has so far a happy and boring life with Gohan
Imagine if the Frieza arc didn't exist and you saw them bring Frieza back for the tournament of power. I think it would've made that scene so much more memorable
The weirdest part about Akira not wanting to make Freeza is that it's honestly not hard to write a training montage where we see Freeza's development in strength while still showing off his ruthlessness. One of the major differences between Freeza and the good guys is that the good guys are compassionate. When they feel someone has pushed themselves to their absolute limits, they are willing to stop training to make sure the person gets well rested so that they continue training. However, Freeza has no compassion, he cares for no one but himself so show that with his training. Watch as the people around him falter and wear out, needing to take a break, and Freeza denying them that reprieve, whether it's just continuing to attack the person even though they're down or evening threatening the loved ones of said individual so that they have no choice but to fight. So now, not only do you remove most of the pointless scenes throughout the movie but you get to continue your hatred and resentment (and love) for Freeza as he continues to show why he needs to be stopped at all costs.
Super's anime could have done a better job. We all know the z fighters got stronger since trunks killed mecha frieza. They should know that a bit of teamwork would have been enough to either beat frieza's first form or stalled until goku arrived. For example had they all teamed up to fight frieza they would have forced his 2nd form transformation. Gohan, who is not confident in his ability to maintain his super saiyan form would then have to step up. This would give a little development for him as to showcase how he feels about not training for so long. He could have still undergone his defeat but against frieza's 3rd form, having at least being able to hold his own in his super saiyan form knowing he had a time limit. This would at least correct some of the power scaling plus giving the additional benefits of gauging how strong frieza had become compared to everyone else.
@Kev_ Bot It kinda feels like you're just trying to get someone pissed by acting as if there's nothing wrong with Super's take on this arc.. xD There's so much wrong about it..
0:09 Goku's the only one who does the fighting? Goku's been the only significant character whose done fighting since Z ended. Vegeta is just a Jobber at this point, and don't get me started on Gohan.
That is why I prefer One Piece. All the characters get a chance to shine in each arc and no one is wasted. As for DB, it's basically the Goku and Vegeta show.
@@jagtech490 yeah but main characters don't have to be the only truly relevant characters. in z for example why far from the best series at doing this still let characters like piccolo or Gohan actually play major roles.
4:22 Thanks, that always bothered me XD For me the whole premise actually bothered me. Frieza coming back is such a joke. He's been: obliterated into dust, he's come back so many times in the anime for no reason to which I add that I don't buy that there is no security for Super Villains in Other World, even given how Dragon Ball has made a point of perpetually making fun of serious things being haphazardly handled, and wtf is this out-of-nowhere, ex-machina Frieza Force that has no other goals than to revive him? It just isn't believable. At least the old Frieza Force I feel had a sort of character, some backbone. Not saying they have to be strong characters (in fact, they can be very introverted; it would fit better actually) but at least have some character. So I say it would fit better also because something is pushing me to say that it doesn't really matter if (like you complain about) there is no tension and nothing changes in the end; this movie is pointless. Something makes me *want* this movie to be sort of a pointless side story. Every time I think of an arc of the series, I think of the story as a whole and I wonder "How important is this to the rest?" (I just compulsively do that) and my gut always tells me that the most important and intense parts of the story has to remain: the Z arcs. Also, yeah, what was this ending with Vegeta just being yeeted like that again? Furthermore, for me, it's more annoying to pull an ex-machina planet destruction to prove Goku isn't cautious enough (which is overstating it and unbelievable) and have ex-machina time travel to prevent it, than having the movie feel like it didn't change anything. I think the movie was purely marketing based. It wanted to capitalise on the resurgence of Dragon Ball and the new series, and bank off of the hype and promise of an epic battle with fan favourite characters, yet it has no potential of backing that up with intensity if you look at any factor of the story; and that is why it artificially tries to build tension with stupid stuff like the planet unwarrantedly being destroyed and even Frieza having come back. To me, this movie has more of a potential to be a fun side movie with no stakes such as Yo! Son Goku and friends return. Just another happy callback. But that doesn't sell I guess. And neither does not putting a new transformation. Blue is a perplexing transformation as many have discussed before. It brings yet another colour into the mix and makes all others irrelevant and is so downplayed in the series that it looses all meaning. So that's my opinion on that after many considerations throughout the years.
Man, just imagine if they had this fight with Frieza in the movie start with SSG Goku and subsequently SSG Vegeta and is about them overcoming Frieza's new power (golden) to protect their new home and families (since Frieza popped their biological one) which leads them into a glimpse of SSB (reminiscent of Goku's First SSJ transformation) and have that be the final transformation to close out the fight BY Vegeta, have Vegeta achieve SSB before Goku and him start taking over the fight (or end it there if we don't wanna have the whis scene) until Frieza blows up the planet, Whis rewinds time and Goku kills Frieza with his Kamehameha wave by managing to tap into SSB in the process from watching Vegeta, you show why Vegeta is ahead in is training according to DBS and you show that Goku is catching up in the process. Mind you I still wish Vegeta just flat out closed the fight out even with the way I set it up but if it must be that we have that rewind scene this is how I would structure it and the movie, SSG really needed more time so that it and SSB have a lot more weight to them and feel earned and as majestic as the other iconic transformations imo.
Maybe even have the Kamehameha not kill off Frieza and he escapes to go train and become stronger and Vegeta tells Goku that he’s a moron and has in the back of his mind his reason to become stronger... to defeat Frieza if he ever comes back(to lead into the Broly movie where he states why he wants to become stronger)
I'll say one of the few things I like about this movie is Frieza's rock theme it kick ass and I have it as my ringtone on my phone to this day whose else agrees
Most db fans love flash over substance and don't know good writing. So it's nice to see someone like you that understands it. What was you're inspiration?
100% agree with you about Blue. It's my least favorite as well for the same reasons. I felt nothing when Goku first "transformed" to Blue. Was extremely underwhelming.
Honestly. If Goku was cut out from the film, like entirely, and Vegeta was the one to battle and debut the new form it would’ve been AMAZING. Imagine that in the beginning we get Vegeta’s reason to train, avenge the Sayian’s like he said in Broly, and then actually getting his shot. Mua

I was young when I first so the trailer and when I saw ssb I lost my shit I thought something crazy like gohan or someone would die and goku would lose it I assume u understand my disappointment but aside from that the movie for me was alright I agree with the vid tho
Al G How can you hate him for something he can’t control? Just be happy the younger generation shows interest in a good anime rather than watching dumb shit like Steven universe or some shit
Mmm there is one other thing that res f provided. Setting up Freeza as a candidate for the ToP, that would have made completely no sense if you removed Res F
I don't think this movie is good, but it means a lot to me. Frieza was always my favorite Dragon Ball character, so when I saw the trailers for this movie I was so excited to see my favorite villain of all time making a grand return. I saw it in theatres with my dad when I was 14, and even then I could see problems with it, but that didn't stop me from loving it. It was funny, it was fun, it had Frieza in it, and that was all I cared about.
The fact that Frieza was afraid of Berrus and the fact that him and Whis could kill him in a second completely killed all tension. Why should we care about this tensionless fight? The characters are not in any danger. What made Dbz great is how you really felt like the characters were in trouble
Tension? In Modern DB???? Bahahaha!!! 🤣 Man. You are naive if you think this series has any tension. You already know Goku will win. The series has magic balls that bring dead people to life. You want tension, watch some batter anime
"The characters are not in any danger" Yeah. That's DB for ya. Goku can teleport to safety and he can wish the dead to life It's not just this movie, it's the whole series
The best way to fix RoF? Remove it from the timeline. I’m serious about this; have Frieza not attack Earth right away. Have him train for several arcs, and eventually get found out when U7 searches near and far for ten people to join the ToP. But if it _really_ has to stay, then here’s my hindsight-edited version of RoF: The movie starts off practically the same, with Sorbet reviving Frieza(well, having him revived onto the ship, because as is, they should have 100% been noticed by at least one Z-Fighter), Frieza going off to train, and then coming back to attack Earth. The Z-Fighters combat his forces, and work their way to him. Now here’s where it changes: instead of Frieza basically one-shotting every single Z-Fighter in his 1st form(which was made for the sole purpose of being weak, mind you), his 1st form is actually pushed thanks to techniques like Solar Flare, Thunder Shock Surprise, and Tri Beam along with, eventually, the power of _Ultimate_ Gohan(remember that arc where Gohan couldn’t use Potential Unleashed, even though it is supposed to override his method of going SSJ? Remember how the arc did almost nothing since he got Potential Unleashed by training for a bit before the ToP? Scrap that out). Annoyed by the Z-Fighters, Frieza immediately pops his Final Form, and now poses a much bigger threat. Now the other Z-Fighters’ techniques don’t do squat against Frieza(opps, you didn’t give them a training montage themselves), and Gohan has to barely fend him off himself. Noticing the _insane_ amount of power being thrown around, Goku brings himself and Vegeta to Earth. He is surprised to see Frieza alive, and tells Gohan, who is now extremely worn from the fight, that they’ll take it from there. Goku approaches Frieza, they exchange some insults, and the fight commences. Base Goku struggles a bit with FF Frieza as well, but Frieza notes that he is completely unfazed by his overwhelming power. Goku then says that he has an ace up his sleeve that no amount of sheer energy can overcome, and transforms into SSJG, revealing that Whis taught him how to use it without the ritual(cue audience realizing that the same would apply to Vegeta as well). He slaps Frieza, and Frieza has no choice but to transform, after stating he picked the color to give Goku the same feeling of dread he had against it on Namek. After the transformation, Frieza then says he’ll test Goku’s statement, and clobbers him. With Goku down, Vegeta then tags in before Frieza can deliver the finishing blow. Frieza then remarks that even if Vegeta can go SSJG, he’d just beat him down like he did Goku. Goku disagrees, and explains through a weakened voice that -Vegeta has become a legend- Frieza had spent too much energy on fighting the Z-Fighters and eventually Goku, and is now visibly tired. He can have all the energy in the world, but it will do nothing for him if he can’t ration it out, Goku concludes. Vegeta then goes SSJG, and beats down Frieza. Goku suddenly tells Vegeta to hurry and kill Frieza, but it is too late; Frieza, using the last ounces of his energy, flies up and fires down a Death Ball, and Vegeta has to intercept it with his beam of choice. Goku gets up, and slowly approaches to help, but Vegeta shouts him down, telling him that he’s the one that had to suffer under Frieza’s reign nearly his entire life, and he’ll be the one to put him down for good; Kakarrot won’t be stealing the kill again this time. Goku obliges, noticing that Frieza’s energy is dropping tremendously while trying to maintain the ball. Vegeta’s anger boils, and his beam overpowers the Death Ball and engulfs Frieza, obliterating him completely. Vegeta stands there for a while, and then says that he feels a tremendous weight lifted off of his shoulders. Afterwards, Goku and Vegeta say their goodbyes and have to head back to train with Whis, as they said they’ll tell them what happened after the incident was dealt with. The Z-Fighters also head back, and peace is resumed on Earth. It still is kind of impressionless, since, as I said above, the best way to remake RoF is to remove it, but it does lose a lot of the issues the one we have currently has. Notably, the Z-Fighters doing little in terms of Frieza and the whole broken off power dynamic when Golden Frieza and SSJB are revealed and pitted against each other immediately(SSJG was fighting seemingly on par with someone who had just no diff’d Majin Buu and Ultimate Gohan, for comparison, which is why people understand how powerful it is and undervalue SSJB). Also, Goku getting the kill is scrapped, for obvious reasons. Of course, it is much easier to fix things in hindsight, but RoF _has_ been remade before(with a quality drop and relatively the same story, but a remake nonetheless), so these changes are still technically up for grabs.
The best thing coming out of Fukkatsu no F is the Freeza song (F) by Maximum the Hormone! (And Vegeta steamrolling Freeza but that gets negated in the end so I dont really count it. Would've been the best ending though, Vegeta finally getting revenge.)
Just when Vegeta gets to be a true hero/badass it immediately gets wiped from continuity. Damnit. Shameless plug: Dragon Ball Legends players join my guild Team4Star aghnfbgz
I've seen all the modern Dragon Ball movies once, and despite my lack of knowledge when it comes to writing in general, it should show how poorly it was handled when I can remember more things about BoG and Broly than Resurrection F. And it hurts to say that because Frieza is one of my favorite Dragon Ball characters
Nah its a pretty bad movie storywise. If you just like action with no rhyme or reason to it then it works out just fine. Its like having three women near one another. One lady is clearly a 3 while the other two are like 6's but that 3 is so bad that the 6's look like 8's when they're near her. Thats these movies. Do not take the ratings literal.
@Frog Glen. You seem like a smart guy and that comment probably made you feel great about yourself so i'll level with you. If DBZ movies were purely about the fighting with no effort on the story then why Did Broly have a decent story behind it or battle of gods? Wrath of the Dragon attempted a story even if it wasn't a good movie overall. The first Broly movie also featured a decent story to it. If I had to poke more holes in your opinion then you do realize the best DBZ movie villains all came from movies with an interesting plot. Cooler the brother of Frieza, Broly the legendary super saiyan, and Janemba a being of pure evil from hell. Two of these had sequels that people tend to dislike because the story to them is in fact bad. Congrats to you for one thing though. You succeeded in wasting my time as I have little interest in speaking with someone who disrespects the series to the point he equates it to "Duh hur action anime need no story duh?"
@@BraveHeartedHero1 Fullmetal Alchemist has better writing. You have poor tastes if you unironically watch DB for plot. Series hasn't been good since the Cell saga.
I wished they gave vegeta the win in this movie, afterall his race was almost wiped up and his first death was all thanks for frieza. He was also once enslaved by frieza. If he was the one who finish off frieza, it would have been so great
After DB Kai, I had been way at med school for years and shutout from latest trends. When I first saw this movie I though the exact same thing about SUper saiyan blue. I was like "huh? Is this a joke? It's just given off screen with no explanation or buildup to why we should be hyped about it?" Excellent video analysis, Mark.
It would've been nice to hear your thoughts on the reason Goku was made to deal the final blow: the whole "Frieza blew up the Earth, but Whis reverted time" part. It's not that I'm expecting you to think it makes the scene any better. It's just that, as is, this part of the video feels like you glossed over the most important part, and just settled with "this happens, and it sucks", when it's supposed to be the climax of the movie.
To be honest now that the video is over I do regret not touching on it. But at the time it felt like kicking a dead horse. In short, the choice to have Whis reverse time is there to provide Goku with a chance to understand his "shortcoming" and to make up for that fact. It's cheap and honestly I really didn't like it. What's more is that he acts the exact same way after the film. So no lesson was learned despite it ending as if he did.
Wolfgod 64 why not? The side characters fighting and doing shit are always some of the best moments. I would argue moments like Tien vs Cell, Piccolo vs Frieza, Piccolo vs 17 are some of the best of their sagas
@@TheLordAizen That's true visually, but that's also coincidence. Couldn't the great animation be spent on something more important? Also, Moro in the manga is doing a good example of making an army fight important.
Mark, have you noticed that Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan was foreshadowed since Battle of Gods the same way Migate no Gokui was foreshadowed in Resurrrction F? When Goku and Beerus are fighting underground and Goku's god status form wears off, he keeps fighting Beerus and eventually turns Super Saiyan in an attempt to stop Beerus from destroying everything. When they go into low orbit to continue the fight, Beerus points out to Goku that the goddly aura is gone, and Goku notices it too for the first time. He attempted to become Super Saiyan while in god form to stop Beerus. Also I love your db content, man. Keep the great job !
I feel like pandering was how the film was advertised, and that’s what was delivered. You felt exactly what the animators wanted: annoyance and frustration; but I’ve been rolling my eyes at Toriyama’s narratives my whole life. Goku is nearly destroyed but ultimately rewarded for being altruistic. Frieza is punished for taking his resources for granted. Vegeta feels superior to a foe and is taken advantage of in a situation he appears to have complete control over. The film cares more about statements than story, and it served to reignite Toriyama’s own interest in the characters. It was a bridge to let us know more was coming, for better or for worse. Toriyama knew Frieza was coming back in the manga, so they changed Vegeta’s role in order to leave us salivating for whatever the end of his character arc is (post-Morro something, and it’s driving us all batty). The movie itself is a tool for future storytelling and provides fan service along the way. Battle of the Gods was a comedy. I absolutely prefer Dragon Ball Super episodes 1-18 with their garbage animation, so that film is lowest on this above list of 3 for me. ................-also Destructo Disc and Special Beam Cannon are great attack names, TotallyNotMark.
We can fix this movie with 2 simple changes: 1 - Make Frieza the POV character 2 - Make Vegeta the strongest character With 1, we have a much better structure and narrative. Mark already touched in this so I won't explain further. With 2, we get a perfect opportunity to give SSB a bit more purpose and meaning, making it more than just a flashy new form. If Vegeta is the strongest then he has to be the one to defeat Frieza. SSB can be unveiled at a climactic moment where Vegeta is able to face and get closure regarding the destruction of his planet and his humiliation on Namek. He always thought it was his destiny to become a super saiyan and defeat Frieza, he even believed that he was a super saiyan before Frieza killed him. Turns out it was never his destiny to be a mere super saiyan, it was his destiny to be the first SSB. Of course, vegeta always gets the short end of the stick so we know this wouldn't happen. But if it did, I think we'd have a much better movie and a much better SSB than ever.
Which do you think was the worst modern Dragon Ball Movie?
- Battle of Gods
- Resurrection F
- Broly
Resurrection F like common how is this a question Mark?
Resurrection F
Resurrection F. No further questions.
Resurrection F hands down
Resurrection F, however, all 3 modern Dragon Ball movies suck.
I think it would´ve made more sense if Frieza would´ve been revived slightly after his death to make his power-up more believable
Felipe A i agree, 4 months of training matching decades of training.
@@felipea1399 yeah, but they lost their chance because DBS was not even thought of a couple of decades ago.

Battle of The Gods: "WE WANT MORE PUNCHING AND LESS COMEDY!"
Resurrection F: "NOW THERE'S TOO MUCH PUNCHING! WHERE'S THE DEVELOPMENT?!"
DBS Broly: The Perfect Balance.
As all things should be.
No, it isn't. DBS: Broly has way too much punching and the story comes to a screeching halt once the punching starts.
Gardetrace everything about dragon ball has too much punching
Did you not watch the film? There is still a,story in it? I feel Like you are complaining just to complain?
@@Gardetrace Totally disagree. A important part in DB movies is a fight. Broly fight is important because the movie spends it's first act building the relation between Goku, Vegeta and Broly. Broly attacks Vegeta first because of the hate Paragus builted into him. Resurrection F is ONLY about the fights.
Resurrection F has one of my favorite exchanges in all of Dragon Ball.

EMOTIONAL DAMAGE
If there was any movie where Vegeta deserved the win it should have been here. He got robbed.
@asian dude Ya
Dave S hey he got to beat his ass at least
Hopefully Toyotaro will let Vegeta have the win against Moro
I hate it when they let goku steal the shine just like what happened to ultimate Gohan
@@TheAzulmagia i think its more of even if they DIDNT tell it at all in the films. theres also super which retells the 2 movies and then goes to the next couple of arcs. and whis uses the temporal rewind in the goku black arc. meaning with that reveal years later the reveal that whis has that in the first place means whis could have done that in the movie or in the arc version. literally the only way to prevent that is to basicly either a have the gods and angels not get into any affairs of mortals at all (meaning they can literally do nothing. not even train them) or not have the characters show up ever again. just have them for battle of gods and thats it
"Hey, Vegeta, hurry up and kill him so he doesn't blow up the planet!"
Vegeta: Oh, shit, you're right!
Frieza: FFFFFFUUUUUU!

@@donovan.d I agree with you completely. I do this to every film that greatly dissatisfies me.

"too much time was spent on comedy"
Its not even comedy but character interaction. When BoG came out we hadn't seen any of these characters in anything official in years. Seeing these characters again after so many years interacting with each other like actual humans was what the fans needed.

Majin Vegeta 2: electric boogaloo
I was thinking the same thing. Vegeta has more motivation and reason as to why he should kill Freeza than Goku. Dude just cock blocked him over his rightful kill - like a bad gamer move.
That's actually a great story. This is now the real Resurrection F in my mind.
Mind if I ask exactly how Vegeta was living in Frieza's shadow post Namek and how the events of your hypothetical Res F being like?
Makes you think if that's why Frost exists.........
I wish Piccolo's fight with Shisami lasted a little longer before Gohan just straight up gut punched him to death.
And didn't have him waste Special Beam Cannon immediately.
And it's a plothole to begin with. Piccolo mops SSJ2 Gohan while training for TOP.
Yeah Shisami was fuckin' cool.
Beerus assured Freeza that he takes no sides in this battle, yet Whis intervenes in the end and rewinds time in order to help Goku and the gang survive and beat Freeza.... WHAT THE HELL?! Just completely undermined Beerus' word as a destroyer.
Earth food bruh
well i mean beerus and whis are 2 different characters... also earth food
Beerus was like NO ONLY I GET TO DESTROY EARTH. *whis please restore the earth so I can have food*
Beerus assured Frieza, HE wouldn't take sides.
Whis is his own person and wasn't included in that.
Only Beerus can authorize the destroying of a planet. Frieza destroying Earth went against Beerus's role, thus forcing him to get involved
YES
This is a better story too bad you wasn't involved in the writing.👍👍
This is beautiful
_But this, does put a smile on my face_
ShelbyAQD keep trying, this was not good at all
To me that Goku caught off guard scene is done so poorly for a few things.

@Zmir Moore huh, didn't know. Thanks for telling me
I did this fix a while ago...
DB Ressurrection of F fix:
Main idea: This should be a Vegeta movie. Goku has nothing to do with Freeza anymore, but Vegeta does. This fix presume you had already watched the movie.
Act I-
Vegeta and Goku:
Vegeta and Goku are sparring with Beerus in that planet. While fighting, Beerus tries to hang Vegeta with his tail. Then it cuts to a flashback of Freeza doing the exact thing to the Sayan Prince. Because of this, he snaps, scarring Goku and Beerus, who imediately stops the fight.
Sorbet:
Nothing really changes to him, he does the same thing. Let's revive Freeza!!!
The rest of the gang:
Everyone is fine, thanks.
Act II- Freeza is back!!!!
Vegeta and Goku:
Whiz (i think this is his name), noticed Vegeta's odd behaviour and lead him to a corner to talk.
Freeza:
Like in the movie, he aknowledges that he need to be stronger, so he humble down a bit, and starts to take training seriously.
Act III- The battle and the Cooler problem
Freeza-
He goes to earth bringing all his army, the problem is Cooler, my idea is to make Freeza fight Vegeta, while Cooler fights Goku in the background, however this would distract to much of the movie and drag this too much, I ain't no dragger. SO the solution is: No Cooler in the battle, but he can appear in my alternative DBS series, or better, be nod as a late villain to the series.
The battle part 1-
Knowing his armed forces can beat the Z fighters, Freeza tell his soldiers to attack the city while his elite picks the stronger Z fighters. The fights are:
Uninmportant cartel
Yamcha, Tenshihan, Jabu Trunks and Gotenks vs The Freeza army. This is a excuse to show cool battle scenes as they try to stop them to save regular humans.
Mid fight: Let's assume all Freeza's henchman received power-ups to at least, follow the Z-fighters.
Kuririn vs Sorbet
Piccolo vs that red guy.
Gohan vs that other guy he fights in the anime series.
This fights serve to give everyone screen time, showing their badasses moments.
Main event:
Cooler vs Goku (maybe)
Freeza vs Vegeta.
Act IV- The end
Freeza transforms.
(exposition about how this forms drains Freeza's strengh)
Freeza makes his last, desesperate attempt, he makes a huge energy ball and throws at earth, to destroy it.
Act IV- Aftermatch
Everyone is happy, vegeta have his reunion with his family all ends well when it ends well. The last scene, of course, it is this.
That ending was the final nail in the coffin for me in regards to this movie. WHO GREENLIT THAT SHIT INTO EXISTENCE?!?!

Goten and Trunks were never meant to be main characters, Toriyama I think admitted that fusion was never meant to win anything in that saga.

To be fair, freeza is an exception within his own race. But yeah 4 months is bullshit. Black freeza makes much more sense.

@@TheChaoticToaster but what made it better than Broly or BoG?
Animusx Arcanum It depends on how you look at it. BoG adds more to the universe of Dragonball. Showing that there is WAY more than just what we knew. There are Gods, and Goku can become one.
Broly expands upon what we know. Showing that not all Saiyans are bad, but in no way are they “good” either. I love Broly’s new character. I love how it was HIS movie. And I love his interactions with other characters.
In F, I find a rekindled love for Frieza. One that EXPLODES in his reintroduction in the Anime before the Universe Survival Arc.

I'm starting to think that Mark has a ' Red ' obsession when it comes to his thumbnails
The movie is like a strong 6.5/10
The saga in Super though is a -4/10
@Kev_ Bot I fell like the one in super is so bad that it's enjoyable
Agree. The movie has a bad writting but at least has good animation. Super Saga on the other hand... I never wanted an saga to end so quickly.
@Kev_ Bot it feels like filler, cut it off from the series and there won't be anything different.

That intro to the movie review was absolutely clean
4:22 Thanks, that always bothered me XD
For me the whole premise actually bothered me.
He didn't mention that Frieza looks like an Oscar's.
He doesn't, Oscars aren't purple
@Munjee I’m pretty sure he was talking about golden frieza
ShibuNub 犬 Golden Frieza is 20% purple. Edit: And, you know Oscars aren’t.
I like hearing that Maxim the Hormone Freeza song at the begging there.
Mua

I've seen comments that this movie was solely made to feature that rock song about frieza

The best way to fix RoF? Remove it from the timeline. I’m serious about this; have Frieza not attack Earth right away. Have him train for several arcs, and eventually get found out when U7 searches near and far for ten people to join the ToP.
But if it _really_ has to stay, then here’s my hindsight-edited version of RoF:
The movie starts off practically the same, with Sorbet reviving Frieza(well, having him revived onto the ship, because as is, they should have 100% been noticed by at least one Z-Fighter), Frieza going off to train, and then coming back to attack Earth.
11:18 genuinely took my a moment to realise that was TFS

Love the content!

"That's right Frieza you're not dealing with the average saiyan anymore!"
I think it’s voted so low because battle of gods and Broly were just too good.

Congrats
You just summed up every Dragon Ball film. You don't watch these for story. Go watch a Miyazaki film for the story. Lmao
You succeeded in wasting my time as I have little interest in speaking with someone who disrespects the series to the point he equates it to
"Duh hur action anime need no story duh?"
@@BraveHeartedHero1
Fullmetal Alchemist has better writing. You have poor tastes if you unironically watch DB for plot. Series hasn't been good since the Cell saga.

Watch better anime
I actually liked The Z Fighters vs. Frieza Force. One of my favorite moments in the movie.
In a way, that's sort of the problem. That probably shouldn't be the best part of the film, but here we are.
Btw. I do like it. I also think it was important more for fans than narratively. It gave us 5 fighters for the ToP and hot Roshi back into the fight.
I'm happy anytime gohan is actually fighting
Nice. This is honestly how I feel about the movie.
Michael Muluken you say, not watching the video
The video has been out for literally 3 minutes what?
U made this comment 2 minutes into the vid😂
Autonomous Opinion Instinct
Proving once and for all that Toriyama really, truly cannot let Vegeta win one.
When you gonna review "Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins"

Issues with the film aside, Vegeta's outfit in this movie is top-tier
UI is the only real, emotional transformation for goku in DBS
You’re telling me that master Roshi is like over 6 feet tall? FOH!
We can fix this movie with 2 simple changes:
1 - Make Frieza the POV character
2 - Make Vegeta the strongest character
With 1, we have a much better structure and narrative.
The Bojack horseman killed me 😂😂😂
