Hey jev if you see this a quick tip - most pokes in the game are punishable by poking back to steal your turn. Although some of the characters get enough spacing to where they can continuously mash with no consequence. If you cant get out of the mash, dash backwards to reset the neutral and try again.
good advice but youre wrong about no consequence, you might not be able to down 1 them back in obscure cases but you still have options. armor reversals destroy mashers and a lot of characters get full combos with kameos off armored moves
Jev progressively improving at something he wants to get good at and being somewhat proud of himself makes me genuinely happy. And proud of him. Plus talking about his gratitude for his fan base at the beginning of the video… an icon.
Don't worry man, I've played fighting games competitively since mk9, if you stick with it you will get better in neutral and it's very rewarding. Press x when your in the move list, anything -6 or lower is 100% safe of block, you will never get punished. If you have something that's minus -5 or -4 and lower, odds are it's a great string to stagger with. Don't focus to much on the math just yet, it definitely helps but just knowing what values are safe is 100% enough. You can learn all the math later or just watch pros play with your character to see what works and how they use their strings in neutral.
This. This needs to move up. Not to mention down 1s are safe on block, but don't try to steal a turn back if it's blocked. If the enemy is smart, that's a free counter for them
@@JayInTheGreen actually in this game, down 1s can be punished by down 1s so poke spamming isn't as much of a thing anymore. Another thing about down 1s on this game is the hit stun is nuts. Meaning when your poke hits someone you have so much frame advantage your opponent WILL HAVE to block your high attacks. If they try to duck it, or spam poke or uppercut... they will get hit everytime.

Also a good thing for jev to note is mk1 is still pretty new and a lot of people still try to abuse fatal blow and wake up with it which is a free punish because of the injustice 2 like super animation

2:30 hit advantage in MK doesn't necessarily allow you to combo into moves that are fast enough. It just guarantees a jail, but your opponent can still block unless they're staggered specifically. Otherwise there would be some real cheese in this game with moves that are plus a ton.

After blocking a low poke your guaranteed for your low poke to punish and to jail into a high string. Also the game doesn’t really tell you but you can up block jump ins and overheads so the low into overhead string from smoke you can high block the overhead for a punish. Hope this helps :)

Helpful tip that got me out of my rut in MK1. If they down 1 and you block it. They're minus. I usually just go for throw if I block their down 1. If they break throw at least you're getting them off of you.

Dude I remember when you had the taste test tubs for it good times glad to see we still kicking
1:50 in smokes tower ending he finds Hanzo and brings him to train with him and Kuai Liang. So when Raiden ask that he was supposed to fight Hanzo, Smoke is telling him that Kuai Liang didn’t think Hanzo was ready for that level of a fight yet after training for only so long.
Jev there are videos out now that can help you with this. One thing that will help you is if you block there down 1, you can immediately down 1 back and they can’t bock it. There are a lot of neutral counters in the game like this. Another is if you block there attack and hit a down 1, right afterwards you can follow with a grab. Works every time and I hope this helps. Like I said though, there are a lot of videos out there for more context. Hope you see this, love you jev 🤟🏻
