This video was 5 months in the making, on and off. I am *so* pleased I can finally show it to you! I planned originally to have everything in one video - but it ended up over 1 hour long and I decided to split it. So here you have the unboxing, plus some general commentary about the 3 RPGs. The "footage" I mention at the end of the video refers to the companion video "I Play 3 Chinese RPGs", which is going up shortly after this one. Thank you for your support - it's what keeps me going.
Thank you so much for your support, we absolutely loved watching your unboxing and we so appreciate all of your kind words. We put a lot of heart and soul into this release so your words really mean a lot to us. ♥
Love seeing all the underlooked/obscure Rpgs on your channel. Sword and Fairy 7 recently piqued my interest, I haven't heard much on it anywhere so it was nice to see this. The collectors edition looks like it has some gorgeous bits. Great video :)
The steelbook that comes in that special edition of Sword and Fairy is impressive in its beauty. They did a really good job with the art and coloring of that. Britta I just came across an import of Xuan-Yuan Sword The Gate of Firmament for PS4. Its expensive and rare with the english on it but compelled me to look deeper into this franchise. Sword and Fairy/Xuan Yuan have a striking lineage and Im glad we are starting to see more of them pop up, especially physically. Thanks for this video!
The only Chinese game that I've played for any length of time is Banner of the Maid by Azure Flame Studio. That game is set in France during the French Revolution, though. I'm looking forward to Black Myth: Wukong this year! This was a great and comprehensive review. Hope you're feeling better!
I saw a trailer of this game and it looks like the game stands out from others of its genre and visually it’s very beautiful. The collectors box was very complete, my favorite was the steelbox, I also think an art book would have been great. I hope and wish you are recovering the best, that you’re enjoying again what you love doing.
What an incredible collector edition! Traditional costumes from Chinese fantasy media look so mesmerizing. I agree with your prefered plushy choice! I hope this leafy one will find a good home with you nevertheless!
Great video as always! I never gave thought to what RPGs from China would be like before, so this is fascinating in a fashion. I hope your recovery is going well. :)
Really enjoyed this!!! This is a game that has been on my wishlist for a long time now actually so I may have to get it sooner than I thought! It looks sooooo neat!
I finally got around to playing sword and fairy 7 and I am loving it! I'm so glad I happened across your video. I started playing when it was free on game pass but didn't get very far at the time. Picked it up on sale on PS5 and after finishing ff7 rebirth decided I would go back to it. The translation is .... Frustrating at times, but everything else is great! I LOVE the visuals/graphics and the music! I also appreciate that in story mode if I struggle too long with a mini game, it gives me an option to skip it. More games should have this!! Anyway, I just wanted to express my thanks to you, and appreciation for the game. I'm not sure I'll try out the ones you mentioned, but if there are any others you've come across that are similar, I'd love to hear about them!
So good to hear that you like the game. I totally agree (as someone who doesn't always love mini games *cough*) - skipping should be a standard option!
aaaaa I've recently beaten Sword and Fairy 7 on Gamepass and I loved it! That collector's edition you have there is amazinggg and I agree Qiaoling would have been the cutest plushie ever 🥺🥺💚💚 Absolutely adorable. I wish more people would play this game
@@Food4Dogs There were some bugs (like Xiu Wu standing in a combat-pose out of combat, for example) and fps drops in one of the last puzzles of the game, but I didn't mind that much honestly! The saves files worked fine too. I played the PC version on Gamepass 💜💜
Quite a pleasant sight to see you playing chinese cultivation games. About 1 and a half years ago I started watching donghuas and playing games that have this setting, in the beginning it is hard to understand, we are loaded with informations, but nowadays often I prefer the chinese style more than the anime style, it is a genre that will grow in the future, but it is somewhat niche.
XY7 was very good, I platted it the year it released. I bought Sword and Fairy but haven't had time to try it yet, but its one of the games I want to beat this year. Good video!
thanks for the video! im always interested in learning about new (as in new to me) IP’s im definitely going to research Sword and Fairy more and decide on whether to get into the series or not, but so far it’s looking good!
@@damiester1 I haven't. Please remember that I've had 2 years of extreme eye problems (almost going blind) and only recently found successful treatment. That's 2 years not being able to play many/most games .. you can imagine my backlog!
this game looks so beautiful! I didn't know the physical came out already somewhere, in EU is due for end of march and I preordered it on Am. but I simply love the limited edition I have to go look... in terms of Chinese RPGs (CRPJs?) Xuan Yuan 7 also surprised me in 2023.. it is not perfect but definitely super charming, also beautiful in its own special way. This latter one came out in EU for maximum games... and it's definitely less expensive than the physical edition of Sword and Fairy.
We're hamstrung - we can't call them CRPGs bc that term is used historically for Computer-RPGs (or cRPGs). We'll have to wait and see if the universe comes up with a solution. 😁
Maximum Games? Surprised to hear that (since they're American) - but then I see this on Wikipedia: "In March 2016, Maximum Games acquired UK-based video game publisher and distributor Avanquest Software Publishing Ltd. The acquisition marked Maximum's move to expand distribution of its games globally, establishing a European sales and marketing position. During this time, they also established a second European subsidiary, Maximum Games Ireland Limited."
@@Food4Dogs u are right yep.. I propose CHRPGs ;) jokes apart they are not structurally too different from JRPGs to stand out as their own genre I guess.. it's like with Korean RPGs.. it is more of about different aesthetics I guess
@@Food4Dogs ah wow... yes I was surprised because on the EU box u see maximum games but also eastasiasoft... crazy combo isn't it? Soooo not in-house for us europeans also ;)
ah the EU version of sword and fairy is coming out in march for Tesura games which I had never heard before.. they apparently also published Figment 1/2 and yuppie psycho here in EU. Another player enters the fray I guess... busy times for indie distributors but I am glad we come to know these games. Years ago it would have been unimaginable right?
Both of these originated in Taiwan, but right now only one of the two is still developed in Taiwan, they outsourced the other series to mainland china. I can't remember which is which. I saw someone playing this a few years ago and decided to do some research on it. It's on my list to play. I'd rather play traditional RPGs than things full of microtransactions and gacha like Genshin.
Despite being a big JRPG gal, I'm rather unfamiliar with Chinese RPGs (besides Genshin Impact, of course). Consider my interest piqued! I'm absolutely enchanted by this collector's edition. The artwork on the desk mat and steel book is breathtaking.
Good question! The company released one of the first games of the Xuan Yuan series recently (digital only, on Switch): Xuan Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond the Mountains. So it is possible they might bring an older game West. But as you can see from my gameplay in the new video (I Play 3 Chinese RPGs), even the slightly older Sword and Fairy 6 is looking and playing pretty dated .. so older games would probably need some remastering. The other consideration is the localization. As you can tell, these are text and dialogue heavy games and need a ton of translation, which obviously makes it quite a lot more expensive.
I love it. I fell in love with Cornet when I played the game on the Nintendo DS. Now I have the Marl Kingdom Chronicles. Tbh, the second game is rather a re-hash of the gameplay of the first 😁 and combat is far too easy and frankly a bit boring. But I can't help but enjoy what is essentially a cozy game.
where do you get your ps4 games . soft star seems great do they use traditional chinese language awesome mini card game . seems like rock paper scissors to me . hahaha . wow ! desk mats . . i received a hard copy skyrim map and used it as a decor for a desk . i always love listening to osts AWESOME THERE ARE CARDS are they metal cards chibi art inside
That would be nice, but I'm sure they couldn't justify that expense, not when these games are not widely known and bought in the West. Maybe if they're successful that will become an option. 😀 Consider that there is a huge amount of dialogue - it really would require a big budget uplift. At least there *is* voice acting, that always adds so much atmosphere.
Oh! 😀 Sure - but I have to say it's really unlikely, especially with the flood of excellent games we've had last year and this seems to continue into this year. I can barely keep up! 😵

What a beautiful edition! Also loved the music inserts. I’m curious, what did PoodlePa have to say about the “heartthrob”? 😂
