As a man who was born and raised in Elizabeth city, I have now been gone 21 years serving with the US Army. It was wonderful to see my hometown and made me quite homesick. Thank you for this wonderful video.

Wow, really? What do you see that is like home? Kids killing kids, people dropping like flies from heroin, a city overtaken by pure HELL!

@@lberotracyec5351 I’m confused by your reply. I see the same buildings, the same streets that I grew up on. There are a lot of good people in that town. I am not sure why you are such a pessimist but I pray that you will find some peace and comfort in life.

@@lberotracyec5351 oh, I just saw your other reply about growing up there. I am sorry that you feel that “your friends” are the only ones that stayed the same. I am sure this is an exaggeration and you do not truly believe that your friends are the only decent people there. Sorry that things are not the same there but I feel you will have a hard time finding anywhere in this country that has stayed the same for 40 years. Either way, hope your outlook gets better on life and you find some peace. God bless and please come back to E. City anytime you can and pitch in with the community of good people that are trying to make the town a home.

@@lberotracyec5351 I am sorry for your experiences and I have had nothing similar happen to me in Elizabeth City, but I do not believe you can condemn an entire town the way you did based on your personal experiences. The fact that I have had none of the same experiences that you have had shows that the town is not completely that way. Me and I am sure many others believe that this is a wonderful town. I will agree that Albermarle hospital does leave a lot to be desired but that does not mean the town is crooked. This is my opinion and that is yours. We can just agree to disagree.

I am a descendent of the Millers of Buxton NC. MY great grandfather Fred Miller lived on Maple St. So did my grandmother....many happy memories! Pastor Roy Harrel at Emmanuel Baptist Church explained to me the way of salvation.

One positive to these type cities that never grew much after the advent of the 20th century, is that their architectural history generally remains intact. Visiting them is almost like stepping back in time. Many of NC's coastal towns are like this.

I was born in EC, moved back there in the late 70"s, early 80's. Actually worked on the old Virginia Dare Hotel, we were restoring it for the historical society . I was just a 19 yr old kid. A lot of great memories in that town. Ive heard horror stories about it recently and it breaks my heart. My grandma lived on Panama st. I had an apartment on Church early on. Thanks for the video, took me back to my youth if only for a while.

I live about a mile outside of town. I wouldn't live in town. Like he mentioned its an old town. There is nothing I need that is in old downtown. Like any town, there are parts you dont want to be in after dark. I do remember in the early 70's, going to town with my parents. On Wednesday, many of the stores closed at noon for the day, and didnt open up until the next day. Like a mid week siesta. You had to keep that in mind when you went to town. I liked eating at Tuck's BBQ.

The city is majority black, you won't have any issue with racism. Maybe more likely to have people rude to you for being Muslim I don't think harassed though. I work at a Walmart and I see many Muslim customers both women (alone?) and men in Islamic garments.

Born in Norfolk, Virginia and raised on Possum Quarter Road, I was very sad to come back to my hometown and see the perversion, the corruption and the monopoly keeping people strung out and dying on drugs, dumps with rent as high as nice apartments, apartments higher than rent in Virginia and little opportunity for people to make a good living . You can paint this place a rose if you'd like, but this is not the Elizabeth City I remember. My friends whom I grew up with are the only ones who have remained the same. God bless this place that used to look like God's country to a little girl who learned to ride a bike on an old sandy dirt road and learned the value of working hard as a child, and playing equally as hard from sun up to sun down in a safe community. Y'all got life messed up. Pay attention to who is running this place. For the love of all that is good.. do it for the children here.

Norfolk isn’t any better . Violence , drugs , domestic violence, homelessness, shelters full , rent is High , long wait lists for income based .. I can go on & on & on . Ive been here for 7+ years .

@@sunasiamharden people get the short end of the stick in Norfolk. You couldn't pay me to move back there. The former attorney I signed a lease with works out of Hertford, NC and Virginia Beach. His wife is still practicing. They put me in a home as a rent to own fixer upper and failed to provide proper paperwork informing me of the asbestos in the home. Thanks for the two lungs full of asbestos right?
