By the 1990, he was already the most popular Aisan entertainer in the entire world before he went to Hollywood. I would say only srcond to Michael Jackson interms of worldwide popularity by then. His movies like Snake In The Eagles Shadow, Drunken Master, Drunken Master II, The Young Master, The Fearless Hyena, Project A, Heart of Dragon, Police Story, Police Story 2, SuperCop, Armour of The God, Twin Dragons, Rumble In The Bronx, First Strike, Mr Nice Guy, Who Am I were already popular in Wertern countries as well before he became big in Hollywood. He was a superstar before Jet Li even entered the Hong Kong movie industry. People still watch many of his old Chinese movies. I am from India, my dad grew up watching Jackie Chan's in late 70s and 80s, he doesn't know who Jet Li is, nor he knows any actors of Hollywood from 80s. But he knows Jackie Chan. He was already an icon all over Aisa Africa and Europe as well by the mid-80s. Almost every single person knew him by then. He was everywhere, his references were even in 80s 90s and even today's bollywood movies, animes, cartoons and other entertainment sector. Dragon Ball character Goku was literally inspired by Jackie Chan in the 80s. The author himself told that, if he could have made Live Action of Dragon Ball and Jackie was still young, he would be the one to play Goku.
if all four of these legendary actors come together and form a drama or movie together i might die of happiness or live because of curiosty...

When Once Upon a Time in China soundtrack's beat started I had goosebumps. You just know that jet li is going to perform beautifully with that awesome song.

they did in 2 movies, one is Stephen's "King of Comedy", and the other one is Jackie's "Gorgeous", but only small parts though, yet funny as hell and made them the highlight of the movies.

I am not sure about kung fu can use for self defense , but if you can do exactly like Jet Li kung fu exercise, moving from slow to fast in a split second without losing your balance, you must be in a good form.
