    “I’m looking for powder charge with small groups with consistent velocity.” Welcome to the world of reloading, you hooked now! You are one of us!! if you want my advice, don’t change .1 increments. It’s not enough difference to make a difference and you’ll drive yourself crazy. Dan Newberry says that as well. What I would do is change my base charge by .2 and shoot .4 increments. See if it repeats. So shoot 41.7, 42.1, 42.5, and 42.9, (43.3 if your comfortable) and see what that ocw looks like. Just what has worked for me! Keep at it, it’s a lot of fun to watch new people get into it!

    I like how you keep the numbers to a minimum, making it easier without a bunch of confusing numbers. Great job

    StaBall gives me unbelievable velocity, SD, and ES in my 20" 6.5CM. Single digit SD, ES below the teens, and around 2700fps with 140 RDF at max charge. It's inexpensive and abundant in my area! Couldnt ask for anything better.

    I am pretty impressed with Sta-bal so far. I have tried it in a few cartridges now. It has won a few and has always at least been a strong contender.

    Good info. We have been really pleased with Staball6.5 in our guns 30/06, 7mm Rem Mag and 243. Very consistent, accurate and impressive velocities.

      You use staball 6.5 on rem mag?. Would it work in 7prc I wonder. Where would I find that data? Thanks

    I do very good with the 129 grain Hornady SST and 6.5 Staball. After I retighten my bipod and held positive press groups tighten. This weight range appears to work well.

    I am doing my own idiot temperature test of H4350 vs Staball 6.5. The Staball has done very well.

    For load development I shoot my groups the same way as you do : one bullet of each charge... to avoid the effect of barrel heating and wind. My bud and me have tried to make the 6.5CM work (two different custom rifles), but we gave up after 1000 rounds (unconsistent groups, poor accuracy around 0.75' at 100yds for 5 shots). I dont know what's wrong with this cartridge but it's very hard to tune vs .308Win. What do you think about it ?

    How much bullet jump is really a concern? If you load to max oal, chamber a round without maring the jacket, isn't that the best you could do? Is there a sweet spot?

    cool video, man. did any of the velocities from 42.4 gr of staball fall in the range of velocities of the 42.7 grain load? somewhere within the minimum and maximum velocity of the 42.7 load? or above that too?

    In my experience staball likes the higher charge weights, sd and es tend to shrink and velocity goes up. So i would definitely go up a little more and see what it does.

    I’ve had good luck with Staball6.5 with the 123 and 130 ELD-Ms. It’s not optimal for the 123s but it’s worked well for me. It doesn’t compare to H4350 obviously since that’s the golden boy powder for the Creedmoors but it’s a good fallback powder and I can’t argue with $228 for 8lbs at all. I don’t have any experience with any of the Reloder powders as they aren’t really available where I live

    I just picked up a pound of RL TS 15.5 for heavy bullets in 223. My local dealer told me that Alliant raised their prices by 30 percent! That pound that I bought yesterday was $70. The dealer told me that the 8 pounder would be well over $400...

    • @WestDesertShooter
      @WestDesertShooter  Рік тому

      Unfortunately that’s what I’ve been seeing on most powders too. Alliant is just completely gone in my area. I don’t even have the choice of paying a lot to get some

      @WestDesertShooter hey Logan, shot my 6 creed the other day. Best 5 shot group was .24MOA at 100yds. Horn brass, 40.5 Staball, 115gr Tubbs, federal 210 primers . COAL of about 2.75 avg. SD was 25, ES 70 I think. Avg 2840fps. Should I shoot .1gr increments to get a good SD? 40.2 gave me 2845 but the SD and ES were much higher.

    Im 19 and ive thought about getting into reloading, do you think it would be beneficial for me to spend the money on the equipment or should I just put that money into more factory ammo to practice?

    • @SALTYCOMBATDIVER-ExInstructor
      @SALTYCOMBATDIVER-ExInstructor Рік тому

      Get a Lee hand press and start learning to reload! I have reloaded since I was younger than you and rarely bought manufactured ammunition (mostly rim fire cartridges and surplus when it was cheaper than reloading). I would actually suggest starting with shotgun then rifle and work towards pistol.

    • @conunpocodefe
      @conunpocodefe Місяць тому

      Depends on your earning. Buy your equipment on sale. watch untold hours of how to reload videos. Then decide on your equipment. I was lucky to find this video. He starts from the beginning, emphasizes safety and good habits while he loads 5 30/06 cases.the same process for many cartridges 6.5 creedmoor etc...He loads to Lyman book specs. Do that. When you are ready you can develop your own loads. Add equipment as you progress.
      develope.

      That’s the opposite of what I’ve heard. 15 is sensitive and 16 is supposed to be better. 15 is probably a bit too fast burn rate. Also I don’t have much on hand
