Worked in a fab shop building sections of piping systems for a while. I was fitting for 2 welders and they were each averaging 15-25 welds a day depending on the size, mostly 1 1/2"-4" pipe. Now I had been on a hot streak and hadnt made a mistake in over 2 months when this happened. Dont worry not long after I went in one day and had 5 cutouts, sometimes you screw up sometimes you dont. Anyway the new super called all of us fitters and welders together and started b1tching like crazy at us. He held up one fitter and welder as the best there and then said, "I could get as much done as yall do with a 10 year old boy helping me!" Now this pissed me off because we hadnt been slacking , we had been doing a damn good job actually. So after the 10 year old comment I stuck my hand in the air and he snapped What! at me. I said, "Does this mean that at 4 o'clock when the school bus comes by second shift is here and we can go on home?" He turned some interesting shades of red but about then the company owner called him into the office and basically told him to stop before everyone quit, which we were all about ready to do. A few days later they moved the new super to some other site and things went back to normal. Looking back I think he was trying to motivate us but you dont motivate highly skilled pipe hands like that. Theres too many jobs out there for them to have to put up with that type of BS.
