Congratulations Chuck, you are possibly the biggest positive influencer in leather craft today. Your enthusiasm and encouragement are so infectious for us newbies. The videos are clear and not rushed, absolutely top notch! Thank you for getting me fired up about leather craft.
A leather book back in the 70s (Brendan’s?) included a tip for using a revolving punch when you don’t have a drive punch. Turn the revolving punch so that the tube you want is pointing STRAIGHT UP when the punch is closed. Squeeze the punch closed and turn it upside down so that the tip of the tube is against the leather. Holding the punch closed, tap the anvil side of the punch with your mallet and presto!
My dad recently passed away and he loved to work leather, but I never learned how and I want to do that to honor dad. Chuck, I love your energy and excitement! I was just thinking my first project would be a pouch to hold my Allen wrenches and you just set me on my path. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I think I will make 3, one to learn and 2 more for the wrenches. Might look at adding a bit of stamping for identification. Nervous but really excited.
@@WeaverLeatherSupply I finished my project and love it. Made them a little bigger, 8x4 with a 3-inch flap. Skipped the rivets and went straight to hand stitching using different colored thread for the different wrenches. I did make 3 and the first was the one with all the mistakes on it but that's ok, using that one for spade bits. Again, thank you so much. I had a lot of fun and am already thinking of what to make next.
Well, I tried my hand at it with supplies from Weaver Leather, and I did it backward a few times, LOL. But it's right now. Perhaps I don't have enough power behind my bams, but the snaps are not snapping together, so I will try again. Oops, mine is thinner leather. (I checked out another one of your videos specifically talking about snaps.) I will order the 20s. All your videos are so helpful. Thank you again.
Idea for a project. Cut an 8 inch circle out of carving leather. Dampen, trace, cut, and tool nearly any design. I like to do Sheridan style flowers. Use sealer, antique, die or paint if desired and then glue to a suede back. Sand the edges, punch holes, and lace the edge. It makes a great "hot pad" . This can be as complicated or simple as one's skill level permits. It covers many of the basics of leather work. I try to watch all of the Weaver videos. I think you do a fantastic job. Keep safe, Stan
Thanks every little bit helps... a couple months in and I already made hats, shoes, wallets, belts, purses... and that's just to name a few of the items I have made with your help.
This is how everyone should be when working excited about the project take pride in what your doin and do it well! I've been wanting to get into leather making and this guy has got me hooked!
Fantastic video. That was the best straight forward approach to a great gateway project. I know stitching can get complicated as a person advances but this was the best beginner level video I've seen yet and especially the no stress no nonsense approach to saddle stitching. Excellent job!
I really like this video, I like how they show you how to design something, then take that rough design and refine it into something much nicer, and he talks you throu each step and WHY we change this or that.
Great explanations and the pacing/instructions is a good speed and easy to understand. This has been very helpful as I start my first project. Thank you!
This is so handy… I make pouches for all my tools, punches, and so on… a front clear vinyl panel makes it a great way to organize and present them in a beautiful way. I like to use various construction, stitching, grommets, snaps, and so on … the first ones were terrible. But as I practice. I’m astonished the great results. Practice makes perfect. I wish!
Old LEATHER SMITH here, I have a suggestion Chuck, on the round anvil I glued a piece of scrap upholstery leather hair side down, so when I do double cap rivets I don't scratch or dent the cap on the anvil end, which I did before. GOD'S BLESSINGS BROTHER ✝️⚾🙃
Great video as usual Chuck. I hardly ever change the blade in my razor knife, I strop the snot out of them (almost a mirror finish on the edge) when ever I put a new blade in and then strop quick for every job. The only time I change a blade is if I happen to ding the edge or break the tip.
This was amazing! I am new here and I love it! I have been wanting to work with leather for many years. I definitely want to do it now, I am so glad I saw this. The step-by-step you did Chuck just wowed me! Thank you!
Hi Chuck, where are you from ? I'm just starting, but thé thing i see in your vidéos all the way is how masterful you are with your tools. I'm a joiner and Can tell the difference on how easy you make that looks. I'm in australia and would love a master to teach me...but i get that buisness is more about craftmanship than learning as an apprentice. Anyhow, thx for everything
Chuck, nice video-a simple beginner project that teaches the skills used in many others. You've often asked for ideas for Leather Elements clips. How about one showing how to incorporate cattle brands into a project? Yes, sometimes you get brands on large pieces of leather, but sometimes they're cut out into smaller squares of hide. If a brand is one of your initials, or if the brand is otherwise meaningful, or if the brand is just plain cool, how can you incorporate it into a project? I'd like some ideas, and maybe others would as well. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Michael
Chuck wanna be friends? You are just such a happy guy it's hard not to get drawn in. I've wanted to get into leather working for years. Now I'm sitting at my desk with scraps all around and my wife asking me to make wallets and bags for all her friends while I try and figure out a price so I can keep it up. xD
Hi Chuck, I am very new to leather craft and your videos are helping me so much I can't thank you enough and by the way the video quality is alot better, thanks mate
thank you so much for these videos and your teaching style.. Its so easy to follow and understand, AND i get excited about projects because you're excited! Thank you so much. I didn't realize leatherworking was something achievable for me. Thank you!!!
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 My Amazon order is coming today w/my tools and I’ll be able to refer back to this when I make my removable pouch for my backpack to hold my phone and wallet. Oh and I totally get Ty Pennington vibes watching you in the end of this video... Raspy voice, excitement and mannerism! 🤭🤩
I recently picked up some nice sheets of scrap leather from the Amish harness shop I use. This is the perfect first project to try using it! You do some great teaching videos! Thanks for your inspiration!
As always, Chuck gives another great project idea broken down to the easiest steps. It would be awesome to see his approach to a dopp kit some time soon either as a project or a Leather Element, though.
Such a great video! Can you do a close up video of the stitching and "X" you mentioned when stitching? It's hard to see what you are doing from a distance
HI Bryn! Thanks so much for watching, we have a hand stitching video that goes into more detail if you would like to check that out we'll link it below. ua-cam.com/video/AEsSbYBLxD4/v-deo.html
Like the project. Would like good solid visible paper pattern lines for the video; pointy magic marker perhaps. None of your lines looked clear on my screen. Concepts were easy tho. Thank you for another super speed bam bam presentation.
Thanks for your videos. I've successfully made several simple but great pouches and such for some of my woodworking tools and it is a very enjoyable hobby!
👍🏻Excellent video, answered a lot of questions I had. Love the quality mentorship your giving in leather craft as well as your enthusiasm. I’m encouraged to give this a try.
I enjoy your videos, very beginner friendly. You do not over talk but you give alot of information with everything you say. Also why not use a fine point sharpie instead of a pen. That shod reduce the amount of inking issue you are having.
Congratulations Chuck, you are possibly the biggest positive influencer in leather craft today. Your enthusiasm and encouragement are so infectious for us newbies. The videos are clear and not rushed, absolutely top notch! Thank you for getting me fired up about leather craft.
Wow, thank you so much!
Chuck you are Badass in your own way.

Your voice attitude and excitement is perfect. Thank you for the videos
You go fast, but not to fast. You are excited, but not to excited. Love watching your down to earth videos, keep them coming.
This is a great video, thank you! Every sentence you say sounds like it is a sound bite. You have a natural enthusiasm when you speak.
Easiest technique for saddle stitching I've seen.
I'm dabbling with leathercraft and found your videos very helpful.
Chuck you are the best. Your delivery and encouraging way of guiding a beginner is what inspires me to try my hand at this. thank you.
Thank you so much!

Loved it, So close to being a Boss Ross of Leather. Just need some 'Happy little rivets' here and there.
