Westminster Abbey, Parliament, St James Park - Jolly Spiffing London Walk
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- In this jolly spiffing London walk Joolz shows you around the St James Park, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament. There is the usual irreverent chat and banter with quips and anecdotes.
Learn all about the invention of champagne, the many fires that burnt down the Palace of Westminster and the pelicans in St James Park.
Joolz Guides is a fun, charming and informative way to see London. Hopefully you will discover lots of things you might have missed by just seeing the main tourist attractions in the area.

As someone who would not be able to do walking tours, you are such an important “eye” for the disabled
As a working class lad from Sheffield, the son of a Steelworker and the Grandson of a Miner. I joined the British Army at 16 years old as a way out of my locality. I’ve gained a decent education in electrical and electronic engineering and have been working on the railway game for the last 6 years. My most recent project has brought me to Battersea. However, I’m residing in Vauxhall, just opposite MI6 in view of the Houses of Parliament. I find your videos (this one in particular) fascinating as they’re on my running route. From my Army days, I’m deeply patriotic and love to learn about the great and varied history of our country, even though me and my family are directly affected by the “class” system. Long love the Queen and God Bless these great isles of ours 🇬🇧
I used to run from Islington to houses of parliament over the river, Southbank, tower bridge back up to the Angel.
Amen
That's the Spirit ! God Bless you Son.
Top man !!!!
It fills me with so much happiness when a video of yours pops up
Amen to that!
Me too x
Me too guys 🔥🔥🔥
As like I do but I’m in Hampshire ☄️☄️☄️
A boring cold dark sunday evening in Sweden turned in to a nice stroll round London. Thanks Joolz.
Did you have a pint to finish the day? ;)
@@constancemiller3753 but of course. .
@@SgtMcNasty you have middle east immigrant problems, send them back , start a mutiny, make Sweden great again
Glad to see you well and healthy.
Thanks Sue...hanging in there. You too I hope!
Your not worried about covid, aka the flu. Are you Sue?
@@edglue6138 Really? It's Sunday, Ed. Why don't you take the day off from being an ignorant, and quite frankly, boring and unoriginal troll.

You are Joolz, the treasure and a great ambassador for London and should be recognised as such by the Mayor
I look forward to every Sunday morning, wandering if one of your new videos will pop up
Don't we all. In lockdown many miss the outside world. Love to all mothers this weekend.
@@scottwallace901 why love to all the mothers out there?
@@prepperjonpnw6482 Because it is Mother's Day
@@prepperjonpnw6482 On the day I left the comment it was Mothers day in the U.K.
I have an Ancestor buried in Westminster Abbey, his name was Nicholas Ham born 1573 in Berkshire. He was buried there in 1641 in the north cloister and he was described as a Singer of Songs..
How lovely...........
He was probably the Justin Bieber of his day, imagine.... 😂
@@michw3755 That's why they Buried him---alive.
Splendid! Robbing Peter to pay Paul... who knew! Once again thank you for a great walk.
We Froggies use quite the same expresion: "déshabiller (undress) Pierre pour habiller (dress) Paul".
My two cents ;)
Joolz should have his own program on the BBC
Sod the BBC. Love the bluey, mate. He's too good for the BBC!
The BBC hates England and its history.
I agree but he doesn’t really fit their narrative these days.
100%
Everytime I'm watching a new video I find myself constantly checking the time bar in fear that it might end at any moment. Brilliant video!!
I like how Champagne Charlie was being teased right up until 5 minutes where it suddenly was topical. Nice editing that.
Glad someone noticed!
@@Joolzguides oh it was quite clear
That was brilliant. Makes me want to get back to London badly !
Thanks!
Me too DougieS!! I love London and hopefully 2022!🤞
Spent 5 magnificent years there 2000 - 2006.....still have a hankering for the place in 2021!!!
@@Joolzguides Do a walking guide to Croydon! It is Londons' largest borough in terms of population. And has got loads of history.
Dougie, this is exactly how I feel. So much history.
Good Morning Julian glad to see you have a new UA-cam vlog for us all this Sunday morning hope your Mum and Family are keeping alright 😊
Thank you! You too! Off to see her now.
I have a Richard Croft in my Family tree---1706.
Another great performance by the wonderful Joolz. Not forgetting Simon of course. Where would we be without the extra words of wisdom from the cameraman !
I did care about rob peter to pay Paul.. that was very interesting!!! Thanks!!
Coade (like code I think?) stone is interesting - it's a ceramic brick containing silica and quartz, so it's resistant to acid rain. Coade restarted making mouldings in 2000.
So interesting 🤔
Without a doubt...the Best Guide to London Town you can Hire. Love these tours !
The universe was showing off when you were made. I adore your boater.
Australia.
Thanks. Hard to find one that fits.
Happy St Patrick's day Joolz..I'm drowning my shamrock and watching your fascinating videos..cheers from Ireland.
Another great review of London Jools; you're the best narrator of the Capital's history by far!
Congratulations to you sir!
I can enjoy sunday so nicely with a walk through London. Thanks and stay healthy.
Champagne, a brilliant English invention! I learn something every time with this channel.
I’m planning a pub crawl once they’re open based on your guides 🍻🍻👍
Great idea! Miss the pubs so much!
Tremendous Joolz, really enjoyed this latest promenade. You are the ultimate flaneur xx
Hopefully when the travel restrictions end I might be able to visit London.
Do you know when that is 1973?
When we all grow a set. Take the muzzles off. And stop this nonsense
@@edglue6138 Yeah, if everyone here hadn't been social distancing and wearing masks when indoors where I live maybe I wouldn't have to worry about when I can go to London because I would probably be dead like 5.5 million Americans in the past year.

One of the best so far!
All through this video all I could think of was Sean Connery and I mean that in a very good way. You make learning so fun, you pull the viewer into your story / video. Thanks for your time and hard work........
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
@@Joolzguides One day I hope to make it to the UK and see the sights for myself..... Thanks again.
Fantastic 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
I wasn't a fan of Henry Moore but we moved to a village near his studios in Perry Green, Hertfordshire. We visited and learnt loads about why and how he made his sculptures. I recommend it when things open up again, plus you can go for a lovely walk around the grounds and have a pint in the pub next door :)
Another beautiful walk. I am watching these a lot lately as I haven't been able to visit London for a year now! Your history knowledge is outstanding. When we are allowed out again I would love a walk with your voice over for real!
Magnificent, Joolz, you're a national treasure
Love your videos--they are so much fun! I seem to "accidentally" learn stuff I never knew about London and its history. My daughter took us (that is, my husband and me) on a quick tour of London back in 2012, when she was studying abroad (we're Americans). So now, my daughter and I watch you as you show us the stuff we missed during that hurried, hot July trip nine years ago. We love your theatrical flair, and the anecdotal songs you include (Oh! Say "hi" to your sis, as well!). Have you ever done a series based on the lost seven gates in the Roman Wall (Aldgate, Bishopsgate, Moorgate, Cripplegate, Aldergate, Newgate, and Ludgate)? I recently saw a map of those locations, along with the more-or-less-semi-circle of the Roman wall that was connected at each of its ends to the Thames, and I think it would help "foreigners" like myself get their bearings as you walk through London. Just a suggestion. I'm not even sure it would make any sense to do it that way, but it seemed reasonable from here. ;)
LOVERLY JUBBERLY. Thanks joolz, I love watching your great informative videos they take me right back to my teens in the seventies, when I was a Guardsman stationed at Chelsea barracks. if I had any free time,I used to wander around the historical sights.
An epic walk around the greatest city in the world! Thank you for the video!
Another excellent walk Joolz! I always feel like I’m actually along for the ride & it alleviates my homesickness for London. Can’t wait to get back to my old home town.
Super duper solid Sean Connery impression Julian!!! 300 extra bonus points for that one!
All of your videos are excellent but this is one is superb as you point out so many hidden gems - both entertaining and informative. Thank you very much!!
Happy Sunday with Joolz. I must say your looking very dapper in your terrific ensemble.
A joolz guide video on a rainy, lockdown Sunday - boooooooom.
All I want is a weekend in London again .. thank you for these joyous videos 💕

Hi beautiful westminster from Dominican Republic!!
I'm quite new but I love this channel as I'm learning a lot of things about London (and your videos also help me to improve my English ☺️). Hope to visit again London very soon!!
Greeting from Rome!!
I hope you get to visit soon! London is beautiful. But so is your home city - Rome. Rome is my most favourite city in the world. Have been fortunate enough to visit there twice 😊
Can't describe how much I love Joolz Guides. I left London (temporarily) just before lockdown and discovered Joolz thereafter. Watching him trundle about my beloved is heartwarming and I can't wait to come back. I'll be booking a private tour, if only to prevent him from returning to peddling. Tour guidesence is his calling!
Thanks for another great video. I particularly enjoyed the shout out to the Westminster Methodist Central Hall.
Fabulous. Thanks Joolz. Just the thing for a sunny Sunday morning. I watched it right away.
Thxs for this new video. Greetings from Cancún, México.
"But you don't care about that.." But I DO! I do care, with all my heart! It's these anecdotes, these facts and myths, that make the blood of history pump in the veins!
Thanks from Holland. We visited London last week, and enjoyed your video’s. Still watching! To See the video’s after the visit is even better
Very interesting. Thank you! Спасибо!
I live in Northern Ontario Canada.....loved LONDON, absolutely loved it. The history, the culture, its unreal compared to where I live
Another glorious start to my Sunday morning: a new Joolz video to watch with my coffee and Welsh cakes. Joolz, you are the picture of sartorial elegance in this video! Also, a big shout out to Simon for his camera work and humorous commentary.
I love St James’ park, worked at the MOD building across the road from Lizzie’s gaff for a while. Spent 80% of my lunch breaks giving directions to tourists.
So happy to see you and your new video.
Thank you for that enjoyed every minute of that watching it through my lunch break while sitting on the 10th floor overlooking St James' Park. Over the last 30 years I have worked either end of Queen Annes Gate and still learned so much about the area in those 30 mins. I have forwarded the link to all my work pals, who have been working from home for the past year to see if it give them some inspiration to get back into the office when it fully reopens.
Lovely part of London, drips history at every corner. Thanks for a guide that only Joolz could pull off.
Lovely shoes Joolz
Just the thing to send up to sleep (in Australia), dreaming of our next walkabout in London Town.
You've just inspired me to take a walk down to Westminster Abbey this afternoon - going to hunt out some of those shelter signs! Fascinating. Thanks Julian, and Simon!
Woo hoo! Great to see you all back. As usual, I've been out to the pub (we're still lucky here in Brisbane), and I arrived home to find a Joolz. However, given my sobriety status, or lack there-of, I'll watch tomorrow. Had to say g'day though. Party on guys and thrilled to see you are back :-)
London 💙👍🏻
Yay, new Jools guide! These always pep me up! 💗🌹
Glad you like them! Thanks!
Hi Joolz
Back in the 60s when I was an apprentice at a reprographic company based
in City Road ( used to drink in the Eagle at lunch time). Besides learning a trade
one of the things I loved doing was collecting and returning artworks to various
customers all over the city, using the underground and buses to get around,
sitting in one of the parks eating sandwiches on a sunny day and your videos
bring it all back. Not sure I would want to do it these days, but thanks for the
memories
Fantastic 👏👏
Have to love a bit of Westminster 👍🏻
Joolz you must get your own TV show based around this or something else knowledge eccentric!
If only TV companies agreed with you.
I agree , your wasted on here. I detested history at school but have watched everyone of your London guides, have learnt so much , can’t wait to get back to London

Very informative video Joolz.

Brilliant video, again ,very entertaining. And, talking of Laurence of Arabia, he also lived down in our Village Hythe in Hampshire. 😉
You can also still see the remains of his house, in the desert of Wadi Rum in Jordan.

What a treasure you are Joolz!I lived in London for years, and your offerings just take me back home,it is of particular value to have your good self and crew lighting up these Godawful days thank -you .
Always something new to see and learn thanks Joolz. Stay Safe
A great way to wake up and take a nice walk thru the park.
I spent quite some time at the Two Chairmen when I was working around the corner at the Trafalgar. Very nice pub indeed.
On the contrary, I love the videos where you end the tour in a pub. Cheers!
1:42 - Bloody hell! That’s an RAF Puma! What on Earth was it doing at such low altitude/landing in central London?
Probably a VIP landing or special forces do a lot of training in Central London so it might be them too.
Also, the SAS do special ops training in various parts of London. Mainly its for counter-terrorism training. When I was an active duty U.S. Army Airborne Rangers Special Ops we trained with the SAS several times and part of the training exercises was in London. We used various helicopters partly to see which ones worked best. Lot of civilians gawking at us lol
