FMA brotherhood is like a complete package. Good story, great character development with no particular dislikeable characters, Gorgeous animation, Best op and ending songs ( I like all 10 of them) and everything achieved in a compact no of episodes. For me it is the best anime I've watched so far.

FMA is one of (if not THE) best shounen anime series. Most shounen series have a certain formula of training, time skipping, believing in friends, heart power, or yelling out the name of the attack aloud. FMA doesn't do that at all. Edward uses his wits, his power comes from various sacrifices, several of the main antagonists were defeated with unified efforts rather than having the one on one and no one actually yells out their attacks.

Chris Hazell The ending is less cliche and more bittersweet but the series is amazing and much more emotional than Brotherhood. Trusted sources aside I give it my highest recommendation and praise. Oh and don't bother with SAO II its even worse than the first one(somehow) from what i've seen.

SultenZone This really is. It also covers most of the story as well, showing all of the major players in the story and implying their relations. The stream-lined transitions between each section must have added on hours if not days of extra time invested to masterfully piece together. Finally, the timing of each shown scene in relation to the music is in perfect sync. I give this opening compilation video five alchemic transformations out of five.

Is it just me or does the whole opening contain all different type of feelings-emotions? Like, it has everything. The tone of the voice, the instrumental, it just really makes you dive into the story of not only Edward and Alfonse but also freaking everyone like Mustang and all the help that is provided to everyone really. You also get the feeling and the consequences of dealing with a forbidden technique and just the whole uncertainty of being an Alchemist. And at the same time as being epic, you can hear the love for a mother. It's just incredible

Now that i watched it in just under 2-3 days, i hate myself, because i know that it's over and it will not be continued.(Dead inside, wish i could delete my memories of it, so i can watch it again for the "First time") People, please, when you start watching shows like this, take your time, cherish every last moment of it, because shows like this are rare.
Such a beautiful song, it hits me right in the feels every time I listen to it, it makes me miss the days when I'd look forward to the newest episode of FMA:B. As if all those feels weren't enough, I get close to tearing up a little bit every time I see Hughes in this video, I absolutely LOVED him. I'm still not over his death, in every episode I hear some word that makes me think of him and I just wanna cry.

To all who say that FMAB isn't the best anime ever. This anime tackled issues like loss, loneliness and existentialism, it shows us the true meaning of life, it gave us the struggle for redemption. This anime depicts the God complex, the ubermensch and the destruction this idea can cause....the darkness of wrath, the malice of pride and the innocence behind it. This anime made us recognise the value of the support we have from who we call family, the greed that we have for affection, the unrequited love for a man and his vision (Riza hwkeye). The atrocities and hate risen from war, the lust for destruction and the significance of individuality (Scar). The mangaka showed us how to be a man, the way she depicted men, strong in resolve yet gentle in execution, from the brooding byronic heroes (mustang) and the amiable strongmen (armstrong) to the mature anti-hero who knew who he married and was a part of (wrath). She wrote about sacrifice (Fu), the qualities of a leader (ling) and the devotion of a woman (lan fan). She also showed us the strength of a woman (Mira armstrong), their ambition and care (winry), their good nature and beauty (shao may) and their love and rue (izumi). The truth that is you, that is me, that is one, that is everything, that what keeps humans so that we don't become boastful. And Lastly, the kindness, patience, and valour of a human being (alphonse elric) and the persistence of his brother Edward. And above all, the sense, bravery and the love of a parent and a husband (Maes hughes). This is why FMAB is what it is.

I remember having this on loop for hours a day I loved it so much. FMAB is BY FAR one of the best anime’s that I’ve fallen in love with. Just like Hunter X Hunter, these two will forever be a source of happiness
This was the anime what inspired me to become a comic book artist. And I still so thankful about that to Hiromu Arakawa. I do comics even right now, and everytime when I need some extra push what would help me to continue my story, this is the anime what really helps me when I have some sort of difficulties.
It took me legit 4 hours to finish the final 3 episodes of Brotherhood. Almost every scene was amazing and emotional and awesome to the point that I'd replay them at least once before I allowed the episode to continue. I have a feeling it was also me desperately trying to keep the ending from coming as much as possible. Damn, I miss this show.
Oh I know how you feel, it was even worse in the original with the second opening, a few episodes after they introduced the new opening Hughes dies and you have to watch that opening where he is so happy
Both this AMV and the song somehow manages to capture both the Good and the Evil, the Happy and the Sad, the Beautiful and the Ugly that was Full Metal Alchemist. I'm completely overwhelmed. I love this anime and this song way too much.
If there is one thing I enjoy the most about FMA apart from the obvious qualities like animation, story and characters, existential questions, is that they give a damn explanation for everything and NO PLOT HOLES, everything is so extremely well connected.

A classic masterpiece. Every episode in FMA:B was breathtaking. Loved the storyline, songs, and ALL the characters!! Everything has a moral lesson. The English dub (voice actors) also made a magnificent job in this!!!!❤

Every time I saw him in the intro for the first season I always thought, "Why in the intro does Ed look like he's Ed 10 years in the future? I wonder why they're doing that...". I think it made him a better person and a wiser leader at the end. He had to learn to depend on others even more and he realized that even he’s helpless at times. It knocked him down a few pegs.
Very new to the anime world at the age of 21. I used to have only watched Pokemon and Yugio, always said "I'm not an anime guy this is too flashy for me." This summer I watched deathnote with my friends (loved). Today I just watched Fma:B (where i couldnt stop watching). To elaborate, every episode had meaning and contributed greatly to the overall journey. FMA BABY!! If anyone knows of any good animes that are relatively short and take you on a solid journey, please do share lol.
You are sort of spoiled if your 2 are deathnote and FMA:B I would recommend darker than black. It is not the best, but It's pretty mad decent. Also check out some movies. Those may be what you are looking for. Nausicaa valley of the wind, the girl who leapt through time, hal's moving castle. Shit like that
Don't know how I forgot Attack on Titan. Definitely watch that. Cowboy bebop is pretty cool as well. Also Outlaw Star. I liked Sword Art, but it does kind of jump the shark mid way through it's first arc. If you push through though Its pretty cool. Another option is Spice and Wolf (its a bit different, and definitely not for everybody. So watch like 2 episodes and make a decision.) I would like to edit my movie list and say anything by Hayao Miyazaki, or Mamoru Hosoda + the movie Nausicaa. And finally, consider watching some longer anime's. Some of the more mainstream ones are DBZ, One Piece, Fairy Tail, Naruto, Bleach. Stormy Surge Anything to add?

Don't waste your time with a lot of theses suggestions, most of them are pretty average (i.e. Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan), though some of them do have an addictive touch. My suggestions are things that I believe to be anime that set the bar high. Though, I will say of those suggestions the best are definitely Code Geass, (from what I have heard) Cowboy Bebop, and Stein's;Gate Considering the fact that you enjoyed Death Note, the anime monster Monster is a good suggestion. The series is was produced around the same time as the original Fullmetal Alchemist series, though the animation still holds up (much better than the original Fullmetal Alchemist series). @@bobi707 i binge watch fmab one a year. its too the point where i can move my eyes away from the screen and still see it playing out in my mind. fmab is a masterpiece, its story, the characterizations, the writing, the pacing, the overall tone and feel? all of it is far above average in terms of quality. the dub is superb even, especially for the time that the 2003 anime was airing. back then, dub quality (while not horrible) wasnt quite what it is today, yet here we have fma 2003 that was ahead of its time. and fmab upheld that quality and than some. fullmetal alchemist has become my personal "golden bar" that i compare every anime i watch to in terms of quality.

My childhood was formed out of: - Naruto - Bleach - Fairy Tail - This masterpiece - Soul Eater I'm glad I grew in the generation when those anime shows were shown on TV channels, the only one I remember being "Animax" or something like that.
Of that list, I only watched Soul Eater, then FMA:B. I had watched Death Note and the 2003 FMA before that. FMA:B blew everything out of the water. I've watched more since then, and truly, nothing quite compares.
soul eater was sick but the ending was extremely corny and cringe, they could've made the ending so much better they literally built up and developed strengths and special attacks, just to end with some "fist of friendship" type shit i genuinely enjoyed the anime but i was so disappointed by the ending

FMA is one of (if not THE) best shounen anime series. Most shounen series have a certain formula of training, time skipping, believing in friends, heart power, or yelling out the name of the attack aloud. FMA doesn't do that at all. Edward uses his wits, his power comes from various sacrifices, several of the main antagonists were defeated with unified efforts rather than having the one on one and no one actually yells out their attacks.

The ending is less cliche and more bittersweet but the series is amazing and much more emotional than Brotherhood. Trusted sources aside I give it my highest recommendation and praise.
Oh and don't bother with SAO II its even worse than the first one(somehow) from what i've seen.
Whether you prefer the 03 version or the Brotherhood version, Fullmetal Alchemist will always be a masterpiece that will be remembered forever.

The stream-lined transitions between each section must have added on hours if not days of extra time invested to masterfully piece together. Finally, the timing of each shown scene in relation to the music is in perfect sync. I give this opening compilation video five alchemic transformations out of five.
***** I also especially liked that end scene where the rain stopped, Ed looked up and their mother lent out her hand to him. I think that's kinda reminiscent of the Original FMA 2nd Opening, when Ed and his brother were in the rain and as Ed lifted his head up he saw Winry hold out her hand right before the rain stopped.

Is it just me or does the whole opening contain all different type of feelings-emotions? Like, it has everything. The tone of the voice, the instrumental, it just really makes you dive into the story of not only Edward and Alfonse but also freaking everyone like Mustang and all the help that is provided to everyone really. You also get the feeling and the consequences of dealing with a forbidden technique and just the whole uncertainty of being an Alchemist. And at the same time as being epic, you can hear the love for a mother. It's just incredible

As if all those feels weren't enough, I get close to tearing up a little bit every time I see Hughes in this video, I absolutely LOVED him. To all who say that FMAB isn't the best anime ever. This anime tackled issues like loss, loneliness and existentialism, it shows us the true meaning of life, it gave us the struggle for redemption. This anime depicts the God complex, the ubermensch and the destruction this idea can cause....the darkness of wrath, the malice of pride and the innocence behind it.
This anime made us recognise the value of the support we have from who we call family, the greed that we have for affection, the unrequited love for a man and his vision (Riza hwkeye). The atrocities and hate risen from war, the lust for destruction and the significance of individuality (Scar).
The mangaka showed us how to be a man, the way she depicted men, strong in resolve yet gentle in execution, from the brooding byronic heroes (mustang) and the amiable strongmen (armstrong) to the mature anti-hero who knew who he married and was a part of (wrath). She wrote about sacrifice (Fu), the qualities of a leader (ling) and the devotion of a woman (lan fan).
She also showed us the strength of a woman (Mira armstrong), their ambition and care (winry), their good nature and beauty (shao may) and their love and rue (izumi).
The truth that is you, that is me, that is one, that is everything, that what keeps humans so that we don't become boastful.
And Lastly, the kindness, patience, and valour of a human being (alphonse elric) and the persistence of his brother Edward. And above all, the sense, bravery and the love of a parent and a husband (Maes hughes).
This is why FMAB is what it is.

It took me legit 4 hours to finish the final 3 episodes of Brotherhood. Almost every scene was amazing and emotional and awesome to the point that I'd replay them at least once before I allowed the episode to continue. I have a feeling it was also me desperately trying to keep the ending from coming as much as possible. Damn, I miss this show.

If there is one thing I enjoy the most about FMA apart from the obvious qualities like animation, story and characters, existential questions, is that they give a damn explanation for everything and NO PLOT HOLES, everything is so extremely well connected.

I think it made him a better person and a wiser leader at the end. He had to learn to depend on others even more and he realized that even he’s helpless at times. It knocked him down a few pegs.

Very new to the anime world at the age of 21. I used to have only watched Pokemon and Yugio, always said "I'm not an anime guy this is too flashy for me." This summer I watched deathnote with my friends (loved). Today I just watched Fma:B (where i couldnt stop watching). To elaborate, every episode had meaning and contributed greatly to the overall journey. FMA BABY!!
If anyone knows of any good animes that are relatively short and take you on a solid journey, please do share lol.
You are sort of spoiled if your 2 are deathnote and FMA:B I would recommend darker than black. It is not the best, but It's pretty mad decent. Also check out some movies. Those may be what you are looking for. Nausicaa valley of the wind, the girl who leapt through time, hal's moving castle. Shit like that
Same here. Death Note got me into anime. I also enjoyed Sword Art Online, Strike the Blood, Attack on Titan, and Blue Exorcist. Hope it helps!!!:D

Cowboy bebop is pretty cool as well. Also Outlaw Star.
I liked Sword Art, but it does kind of jump the shark mid way through it's first arc. If you push through though Its pretty cool.
Another option is Spice and Wolf (its a bit different, and definitely not for everybody. So watch like 2 episodes and make a decision.)
I would like to edit my movie list and say anything by Hayao Miyazaki, or Mamoru Hosoda + the movie Nausicaa.
And finally, consider watching some longer anime's. Some of the more mainstream ones are DBZ, One Piece, Fairy Tail, Naruto, Bleach.

Mohogany Guy 1869 Good words :P I agree, I've started on Fairy Tail and I'm in love with it. I guess the only additions I'd make are Angel Beats, Code Geass, Steins;Gate, and Accel World.
Don't waste your time with a lot of theses suggestions, most of them are pretty average (i.e. Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan), though some of them do have an addictive touch. My suggestions are things that I believe to be anime that set the bar high. Though, I will say of those suggestions the best are definitely Code Geass, (from what I have heard) Cowboy Bebop, and Stein's;Gate
Considering the fact that you enjoyed Death Note, the anime monster Monster is a good suggestion. The series is was produced around the same time as the original Fullmetal Alchemist series, though the animation still holds up (much better than the original Fullmetal Alchemist series). "Dr. Kenzo Tenma is a renowned young brain surgeon of Japanese descent working in Europe. Highly lauded by his peers as one of the great young minds that will revolutionize the field, he is blessed with a beautiful fiancé and is on the cusp of a high promotion in the hospital he works at. Fate/Zero is a must see. The animation is beautiful, the dub is fantastic, the music is absolutely amazing, and the story is well-written. "Fate/Zero takes place 10 years prior to the events of Fate/stay night, detailing the events of the 4th Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City. The War of the Holy Grail is a contest in which seven magi summon seven Heroic Spirits to compete to obtain the power of the "Holy Grail," which grants a miracle. If you are looking for something vaguely lighthearted, I would suggest the anime Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. The story has happy, optimistic themes but is also filled well-written characters who are put into the situation to fight for freedom. The series is absurd, manly popcorn fun but is also layered with themes about never giving up. The fights grow in scale each time and lead to a literal astronomical proportion. "In a far away future, mankind lives underground in huge caves, unknowing of a world above with a sky and stars. In the small village of Jiha, Simon, a shy boy who works as a digger discovers a strange glowing object during excavation. The enterprising Kamina, a young man with a pair of rakish sunglasses and the passion of a firey sun, befriends Simon and forms a small band of brothers, the Gurren Brigade, to escape the village and break through the ceiling of the cave to reach the surface, which few believe exist. The village elder won't hear of such foolishness and punishes the Brigade. However, when disaster strikes from the world above and the entire village is in jeopardy, it's up to Simon, Kamina, a girl with a big gun named Yoko, and the small yet sturdy robot, Lagann, to save the day. @@bobi707 i binge watch fmab one a year. its too the point where i can move my eyes away from the screen and still see it playing out in my mind. fmab is a masterpiece, its story, the characterizations, the writing, the pacing, the overall tone and feel? all of it is far above average in terms of quality. the dub is superb even, especially for the time that the 2003 anime was airing. back then, dub quality (while not horrible) wasnt quite what it is today, yet here we have fma 2003 that was ahead of its time.
and fmab upheld that quality and than some. fullmetal alchemist has become my personal "golden bar" that i compare every anime i watch to in terms of quality.

I'm glad I grew in the generation when those anime shows were shown on TV channels, the only one I remember being "Animax" or something like that.
Of that list, I only watched Soul Eater, then FMA:B. I had watched Death Note and the 2003 FMA before that.
FMA:B blew everything out of the water. I've watched more since then, and truly, nothing quite compares.
Fmab was my 1st anime.. ramdomly in 7th grade came across animax..saw fmab..! No going back from anime since then ..been 12 years now lol
soul eater was sick but the ending was extremely corny and cringe, they could've made the ending so much better
they literally built up and developed strengths and special attacks, just to end with some "fist of friendship" type shit

I finished fma brotherhood 4 years ago. I remember that I used to feel empty when it ended because I allways watched it before I went to bed. This is my favourite anime because of that! Fma brotherhood is just pure quality!
