This is real. My daughter kept getting dark marks around the back of her Sterling silver earrings. I didn’t know off she was allergic or what. But it wasn’t a rash. I switched her to 18k and she’s been great since!
did you change it yourself when it was not fully healed? and were they just 18k gold earrings you buy from a jeweler or did you get them from a piercer?
OMG good thing I watched this before I bought a bunch of jewellery. I love silver tones and I thought sterling silver 925 was good quality but I kept getting the dark marks and tarnishing like u mentioned!!!
My first lobes were pierced with 14k gold and my second lobes were titanium. Also when my piercings healed i wear sterling silver earrings and there never gone black in my ear but I dont really have a choice because I'm allergic to nickel but I cant afford gold earrings
I thought titanium was going to be great for me, but for 48 hours after replacing my nose ring I had really bad inflammation and puss-like substance oozing from my piercing. I had sanitized every thing and triple washed, I did it all. I took out the titanium and replaced it with my surgical steel and within 24 hours my nose healed and stopped reacting. The inflammation had gotten so bad I almost could fit my hoop back on. It’s unfortunate because the ring was so pretty and was like $30, but I guess I just have an intolerance for titanium. Surgical steel only for me!
It’s good to read that because I also think that I have a titanium intolerance. I’ve had titanium piercings for 2+ years and they never heal but when I was a teenager the my nostril of surgical steel healed within 6 months 😣
does the inside metal matter if the outside is gold plated? is gold plating a way to get good earrings etc that wont tarnish and will be relatively cheaper?
Silver tarnishes yes and aesthetically might look unappealing for some jewellery, but silver has historically been used in medicine for its naturally occurring antimicrobial properties. Even to this day the first earrings after initially being pierced that little girls in the Indian subcontinent get are little silver hoop earrings and they usually don't cause any trouble. I got mine as a 4 year old.
Bruh my mom just bought sterling silver for 32$ 🤭 but besides that this is good information because I plan to have a jewelry business and I want to give good quality products to my costumers😖
I only wear silver earrings/piercings, 'cause it turned out I'm allergic to other metals and especially gold (had to many infections caused by gold) :P

@@hollywoolford7783 I'm not sure.. depends on your body and what can cause you irritation... for me I found out that I can wear steel and silver without problems.. :/
It’s not as bad as she’s making it out to be. You can clean and polish silver jewelry, you don’t have to buy new pieces when they change color. If that was the case no one would make any kind of silver jewelry ever. I’ve used silver earrings all my life and I just clean the every so often, they are beautiful.
Danny CatLady so would you say it’s okay to use on drag pierced ears as long as I clean them very frequently? Is sterilizing it in alcohol just as good?

I believe it was some type of e-coating. I don't remember that exact name of it but goes to show that there are different qualities of sterling silver.
My nose ring is most likely sterling silver. If I take my piercing out/change it I have a light gray spot around my piercing. How can I get rid of it? I’m thinking about taking the piercing out for good.
I’m not an expert or anything but I have had my lobes for 3 years so yeah....When I lost my really good earrings I used Sterling Silver for a bit and when I took them out I had the same thing...I highly recommend just leaving your nose alone for a while and don’t put your ring back in for a while my gray spots went away on their own. 10k an is affordable metal. If you live in the states you can check out piercing pagoda.
Gold in lates piercings
I would not recommend 10k for body jewelry. Only 18k because 10k has too much of other alloys .
Stainless steel
I would recommand Surgical Steel. In Czech republic It's very common and I have my Rook from it. No complications
