After watching a different review, I was going to pass on the Kickstarter. After your video, I backed it. Excellent job on making the game understandable and interesting.
I had the same. The video of Tom Vasel made me seriously dislike the game since it was not explained and showed in a comprehensable way. Luckily, we have Jon.
Yesterday I showed the Monumental Kickstarter to my wife and she liked it that much that I had to back it :-) Now I watched your excellent playthrough and now I like the game even more. Great job!!
I can't believe I spent two hours on this, and it ends with a shared victory?! I'm just kidding. Amazing walkthrough, thank you so much. My copy of this is on it's way to Denmark - I can hardly wait!
If in a 3 or 4 player game you have the last move first, you are in a very bad situation on the board, especially if your tactic is conquering the province. At first I thought that the more players the better, but now I find that the 2-player game is probably the best. You have more control over your opponent. Anyway, I will back this game. A good civilizing euro game, with great figures, with interesting mechanics. The wife liked it (and you know how it works), so I take it. The best quality gameplay, thank You
This looks like a pretty decent game that could almost be a long-lasting game, but falls short of the mark for me. I hope one day I get to try it out. Great job as always John! I really love how well you map out different strategies, which sometimes work and sometimes don't - just like a real game. :)
I hope you get a chance to try the final product at some point, this game certainly has some cool ideas going for it (most specifically the 3x3 "hand"). I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)
Am I the only one getting a "Through the Ages" feel when he's talking about how the wonders work and that there's cards sorted by age being a game clock...
@@GettingGames You have yet to make any Jon. You only have top 10 strategic etc. Not best of all time. Would be really nice to see that list and if possible a bit bigger than just 10 you have played a lot of games :)
Ah totally missed that one! Thanks for this, still when you can make a new one. In this 2-3 years ago I bet quite a lot changed and some new games made the list. So make a new one Jon when you can and expand it to 30 or 50 ok? :)

I'm really excited for this game but I just late pledged for Mezo and Cloudspire. I guess I'll be buying this game as soon as it comes to retail. This looks like my type of game!
I'm going to have to get this game somehow probably just the base game. It kind of sucks because I think the clans in the expansion are cooler Atlanteans, Amazonians, Aztecs, and Mughals.

Do you get points at the end for the wonders you've built or for the wonders you control on the board? I believe it's the latter, otherwise what is the point of controlling them?
I checked this one with the designer before recording, and it is the former option. The point of having them on the board is to make defending provinces easier and those DO count for points.
1:17:12 - I think you screwed up. From the look of things, the next card was the Knowledge card, not the Statue of Liberty Excellent playthrough. Looks like a game I may be interested in.

I know they were doing some modifications and i kind of think there are some unbalanced things: - the last player y seems to have an easier situation to get the bonus for the most provinces conquered. - the level of interaction doesn’t seem to be as good as it could get to be... That’s a ‘shame’ with those mechanics and this production. - Do you think a different map makes things less foreseeable? I kind of had the feeling that all players were having things kind of easy. - Also i wonder if the game is not too short. It seems to have great potential, but actually not those many turns were played. Can you give us your thoughts on these things?
Hey Luis, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Unfortunately I don't really have any insights about the game after recording this video, the publisher hasn't told me about any changes they may be instituting but I do know that they were still in the fine tuning stages of development when the prototype was sent out to me. I imagine we will learn more once the official rulebook is released, but I just don't have any extra info for you on those questions :-\
I was honestly expecting people to have commented on that stupid fly earlier than this. It shows up a few times in this video, and flew into my face messing up a take on a couple occasions :P

I didn't understand the point of archiving a card, you slid it under the warrior and just said it gets eliminated from the game, that sounds like a penalty not an advantage.
You do an amazing job at teaching. No extra fluff, and you cover all the cases. I have very few questions after this.

Another great playthrough. It seems like the last player, as in many area control games, has a ton of control over who to attack.

I suppose those aspects are similar, although I do believe once you get to the mechanics of them they become quite different vs TTA.

At 1:17:04 you did not build them in the wrong order, you flipped the deck over and placed them in the wrong order. Right?

Correct, this just had the basic components and mechanics.
I didn't understand the point of archiving a card, you slid it under the warrior and just said it gets eliminated from the game, that sounds like a penalty not an advantage.
Once it's out of your deck you will have a smaller deck which means you can cycle through it to your more powerful cards more often.
