GLAD I didn't see that movie, "The Happytime Murders" . So sue me for being old school but Muppets swearing takes them out of their world and puts them in ours. I don't even wanna be in our world some days.

I vaguely recall when Elmo had a deep voice that just didn't work for him. Thankfully, Kevin took him in a better direction. If I'm not mistaken, he also briefly worked with Miss Piggy but then turned her management over to Frank Oz. The rest, as they say, is history.
Kevin IS right about how we see the characters.
Even as adults, we might be more familiar with the actors, but we still respond to the characters. I'd just as soon talk to Oscar the Grouch, or Hoots the Owl or, or Cookie Monster the poor guy who never got to eat when Grover was his waiter. There's a feeling of INNOCENCE about it. Just getting away from 'real life' for a bit.

Frank Oz was the principal performer for Miss Piggy for over 25 years (1976-2002); Kevin was her operator in Muppet Treasure Island, but Frank still did the voice, dubbing it in in post-production.

@@ptorq Clash also puppeteered Oz's other characters in that movie, with Oz dubbing them in post-production. But there actually was one time Oz came on set to play Miss Piggy against Tim Curry's character.
Clash also voiced Sam the Eagle in It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie , with the actual puppetry done by John Kennedy.
