This is superb. I am a sound engineer of 40+ years. JPM sings with conviction, like he OWNS it. Billy sings it like a COVER artist. The core accent/dialect is different : Billy delivering his naturally LESS Scouse pronunciation. Billy is over compensating and introducing 'passion' in the wrong places.... "She wouldn't say" : JPM throws that line out in a totally unique way. Billy stretches the line to try and INJECT 'feeling' and 'yearning'. Over thinking the Delivery of FEELING often ends up with the voice emanating more from the nazel head chamber. Nice try Billy, but nowhere close. Love your channel. Love JPM. 😊❤️

Thanks again for your brilliant research on this issue. For a long time I was 90% sure there was something different about the later 'Paul'. But I was fooled because I was convinced paperback writer(real Paul) was after Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane in 1967. thanks to following your work I have further investigated and found paperback writer was from May 1966. Now no doubt 100% there is Paul and there is Faul. Great work. Now everything Heather Mills said makes perfect sense.

I never understood why Wings sounded so mediocre when Paul McCartney and John Lennon had written the songs for the Beatles, and the Beatles were rather good. Around 15 years ago, I got a double CD 'Best Of' of Wings from the library and barely played it that week: I found it very uninspiring and bland. Now, discovering 'the truth' this past week, it all makes sense as to Wings was so mediocre. Because the real Paul McCartney was not the singer or song-writer!

I’m sure you get this comment all the time but I’m new to this and that is absolutely not the same singer. Unless there is funny business with the second version. I saw a comment about for this to be true this Billy had to go on and do all this incredible music accomplishments like Wings etc…. I think ironically that type of comment and thinking is kind of the point. It this happened it was because it was a once in a trillion chance to have someone talented enough that looked like Paul to pull it off. That and the time 1966. All information and media was controlled and disseminated in a fashion that could sincerely help pull this off. It would have been hard and maybe even touch and go those first 6 to 12 months but the farther away from the incident they got the easier it got until they get a sense that they pulled it off. They saw Billy was good enough to blur the lines forever. It was then that you maybe can interpret a cocky type attitude emerge as they know it’s really unprovable especially at that moment in time. So you see the limit get pushed farther and farther with the tributes etc…

I have perfect pitch and have played musical instruments and sang since age 6.
These are definitely two different voices. The first is a rich Baritone, the second a weaker Tenor pitcher male voice. The first has a natural northern accent which is clear in the pronunciation of words- especially Yesterday, itself. The second is a neutral non-natural pronunciation where the Tenor voice attempts to remove all traces of accent from the words, and in some places, a false Trans-Atlantic pronunciation is applied to words - again, Yesterday. He sounds like many tribute act singers still do today in that respect. They are categorically not the same voice.
I suggest that anyone in doubt looks at and listens to “The Analogues” and “the Beatles Magical Orchestra “ on UA-cam and listen without video.
Both of the singers who sing the “JPM” parts of songs do a better impression of Paul McCartney than this second singer.

I'm not even sure the picture of Billy on the right is actually Billy. It looks like one of his doubles, and this particular double always looked Denny Laine to me

Well I can definitely hear the difference. Billy sounds just like Wings of course. I grew up with Billy's voice and always thought Paul was different.
