Ya need to get a good farrier or he’s gonna be stuck in pads forever. If he had very little sole it’s because they need to adjust the hoof angle for a healthier foot. A vet can take a “farrier rad” or farrier radiograph aka xray so they can see how thin the sole is. It’s concerning to me your horse reacted that way because use my horse has thin soles, borderline big problem too thin and he doesn’t kick out when they test it. We know because we did the farrier rad. Now I’ve got a vet and farrier who are working together. They don’t want to inject until we get the shoes right which imho is the best approach. I’ve been to cheap Vera and expansive vets and long term I order a vet who works closes with a farrier as a team.

Yes definitely! I owned a mare with navicular for years so I am unfortunately very well versed in hoof rehab 😅 This horse had a pretty significant injury to his front left leg in February which got seriously infected and he was essentially non-weight bearing for six weeks, so there’s a chance a lot of this is supporting limb trauma from the way he was carrying himself and posturing during that time. I have had 3 different vets and two teams of farriers work on him and look at him and I’ve been checking in with them regularly. We’re exploring diet changes and potential sugar sensitivities as well. The pads made an immediate symptom improvement of course but we’re looking for root causes and long term solutions. He is also only four and there’s not a world in which I am doing steroid joint injections on a horse that young.

It's no kidding vets have gotten out of control... think of all the beautiful horses whose owners could afford $500 but not $5000... they love their horses just as much as the silver spoon owners.

@@g.w.hampton5525 vets absolutely deserve to get paid for their skill but it’s crazy how expensive it can get. I didn’t realize what I was paying was out of the norm until I looked elsewhere
