i have the 73 SL, when it was released, the 350SL but later bought a 500SL of this body also have the SLC 450SLC, the version with 4 seats and not convertible but i heard some americans saying they destroyd the car when in the U.S. as they drove a european and were amazed by it´s power, same engine but to meet american standarts they make them very slow while in the rest of the world were one of the fastest cars at the time
Looks like a really nice example. I would consider putting euro bumpers and headlights on it though. That's how it was designed. The US stuff was just slapped on because of law. The engine I dont think is possible to convert to original euro spec in any easy way. I think the compression differs.

Doug’s take is just plain up wrong. The R107 is simply gorgeous. I get tons of attention, compliments and thumbs up in mine. I’ve never seen a car get this much attention even for 10x the price. Especially the people who grew up with them, they knew it meant you had MONEY back in the day. It was Hollywood’s sweetheart.
I'm 18 and I told my friends i wanted exactly this but the color would be yellow and they all laughed at me.. they said it was too old and I won't get no girls. I'm going to get it either way

Ugly one of the most beautifull convertible cars for no reason they were sold from 1973 to 1985, that is the american version the bumpers or beer seats are a litle to big for the car as the front lights original ones are more interesting in design, for the first time i heard someone saying it´s ugly but what to do children now can´t compare diferent brands with diferent designs as most of the cars look the same, at the time choosing a brand would make it a diferent type of car ,Mercedes was said to be the best brand in the world after Rolls Royce, this also to refer that how can a 73 model can be seen everywhere ,maybe they have not seen" American gigolo" in a cinema with Richard Geere(or something like that)i don´t remenber if i saw it as it was not my taste in movies but maybe i went to see it with my wife at the time
what?value doesn´t have any but the owner can ask whatever he wants, if he explains what as been done to mantain the car as new, he can ask even more if the car was improved and made all maintenace with toyota as mandatory in the car book, mine is perfect but someone ofered me 4.000€ i told him that i had spent more to keep it mint not only the look but the car working as it should as at a certain number of km´s the engine is refurbished at the brand at least is what happens with some older Mercedes i own
the R107 is a lovely classic car, but honestly the US versions are ugly as hell when compared to the original design. The headlights are grotesque and the bumpers make it look like a tractor. As a fan of SLs (all generations) I could only consider a European spec, never a US.

Euro bumpers look great! I found new replacements (non-OEM) for about $1200
